Introduction In our modern world we have many considerations towards best practice, usually geared towards the least amount of endangerment to staff and the general public. Hydrographic/ Bathymetric surveys have been conducted for many years using conventional boats and other watercraft. Given this push towards a more HR related world we now see many situations where it is impossible, ill-advised or at least onerous to have a person or staff member directly involved on the water conducting these surveys hence the rise of the Remote Control Hydrographic survey boat industry. At CR Kennedy, we have created the Accura Hydro boat. This followed extensive discussion, field testing and consideration of the needs of those conducting such surveys. The Accura is proudly an in-house development, brought together over an 18-month period from items created, adapted and altered from all around the world including various locally sourced items. From a use and HR perspective we have looked at such things as size, weight, lift and transport considerations. From a use and reliability perspective we have looked at simplicity of design and use, reliability, quality of components and their appropriateness for use in the anticipated environments. A lack of water ingress has also been seen as highly desirable. We have also made extensive use of 3d printing and to this end we have been able to quickly and easily adapt over the R&D process and also cater to future as yet unforeseen requirements. Considering our original plans and intentions, we are satisfied that we have achieved our goals. Being a distributer of hundreds of global brands we have recognised the importance of partnerships. Early on we partnered with Australian company CEE Hydro Systems. As well as valuable advice throughout the build process CEE Hydro Systems now provide the Sonar, transducer, software and the Sonar side of the product training and support. We would also like to thank our R&D Partners, a Brisbane based mining survey company who have extensively used the Accura on tailings dams throughout the Eastern states. The Accura is a flexible platform and utilising the various options available from CEE, our packages can be tailored for various requirements and budgets. These packages can include either of the two Echo sounders available (CEE Pulse or CEE Echo), three different transducer options exist (single standard, single narrow or dual frequency) and two separate software options are also available (Hypack or Hydromagic) ultimately quite a few different combinations exist and your Accura can be designed through consultation with you to ensure the ideal outcome. Considering your various RC Hydro boat options and looking at our strengths, which include local manufacturing, local spares, local support, local training and likely an established relationship, we feel that we are well placed to partner with you and help you achieve your objectives. With Accura experts located at our various offices around the country please feel free to reach out to your local CR Kennedy office for advice and assistance. CEE ECHO A compact dual frequency hydrographic survey echo sounder the perfect partner for your survey GPS. CEE ECHO is a state of the art portable echo sounder with advanced capabilities in a truly compact package. Internal data logging, full water column echogram and 20 Hz ping rate in a robust waterproof enclosure proves quality does not have to be sacrificed for convenience. This dual frequency echo sounder offers integrated data management and internal power at around 3.5 kg. Built into a robust Pelican case the CEE ECHO has been engineered for use in vessels big or small. Suitable for temporary use in small open boats or long term installation on a dedicated survey vessel. The CEE ECHO dual frequency sounder is an industry leader in shallow water operation (from as little as0.2m/0.6 ) to give maximum coverage for inland and coastal survey areas. Full automatic or manual sounder control allows for reliable performance in most marine environments. The CEE ECHO is capable of recording a high resolution (3200 spp) full water column acoustic envelope for accurate postprocessing analysis. Wireless connectivity makes it easy to link with external hardware, including: Tablet PC, PDA and Notebook PC. A removable waterproof USB memory stick connects to the unit making it simple to log real time data and then transfer logged survey data to a PC. All data is internally PPS time stamped when pulse is supplied. Easily interfaced with GNSS, motion sensor and/ or tide gauge for a complete data solution. Survey for 8 hours without recharging the battery. Position and depth data can be recorded directly to the CEE ECHO, independent of the survey software. This provides an automatic back up of the data set. survey.crkennedy.com.au
Dredge pond Sample survey of a pond survey with a dredge actively operating. Such turbulence can cause issues with reliable bottom tracking. Having high ping rate and full water column data allows production to continue while a detailed survey is being conducted. Survey highlights the higher section that is to be dredged next to maintain a uniform depth. River Sample Cross sections of a river were surveyed to achieve a digital terrain model of a water storage area for the purpose of better asset management. 1300 886 982
Real Time Survey Data Interfacing the GNSS receiver with the CEE ECHO allows for a simple data merge of position and depth data based on the GNSS time stamp. Survey data is broadcast in real time to the shore. This provides the operator with navigation information, allowing for uniform coverage and the ability to identify the quality of the data being collected. Settings for the CEE ECHO can be configured via the remote Wi-Fi connection. This allows the operator on the fly control without bringing the USV to shore to change settings. Single or Dual Frequency The CEE ECHO is offered with a single or dual frequency capability. Dual frequency offers two independent channels measuring depths simultaneously. This improves reliability in areas of vegetation as the lower frequency will track the true bottom. In areas of soft sediment, the dual frequency can highlight areas of sediment build up and indicate a thickness. There is no additional data collection time required and each channel can be configured independently to suit the local area. survey.crkennedy.com.au
A 20Hz sounding rate A high sounding rate means better representation of true depth and more reliable tracking of depth changes in areas of rugged bottom topography. With a sounding measurement rate of up to 20Hz per channel the CEE ECHO will offer up to 144,000 points per hour to ensure the survey result is reliable. The supplied hydrographic survey software makes short work of taking saturated data down to a usable output file for DTM and profiling. Using an Echogram In areas of acoustic interference an echogram provides additional information to enhance the surveyor s ability to determine if the digital depth is a true representation. Having the full water column data in processing allows the surveyor to compare the result to the acoustic return and determine if the digital value is correct or needs to be modified. This is of particular importance in areas of vegetation, sediment or layers of varied temperature and/or salinity. 1300 886 982
