Heat Cheerleading INFORMATION PACK WELCOME TO HEAT CHEERLEADING We look forward to another exciting year in 2017! Heat Cheerleading is committed to providing a positive and welcoming atmosphere where success is achieved through determination, dedication and the process of perfecting skills before progression Heat Cheerleading s mission is to develop individual skills and talent, team work and a passion for the fantastic sport of cheerleading. Heat Cheerleading is located in our new cheer gym at Unit 7/6 Dacre Street, Mitchell. In 2017, Heat Cheerleading will offer local comp teams (competitions in Canberra and Wollongong) and interstate comp teams (Canberra, Sydney, Wollongong and Melbourne) to give families options! We can t wait to see what Heat Cheerleading will accomplish in 2017 and we look forward to a very fun and successful year! So What is Cheerleading? Cheerleading is a fast paced, dynamic sport that encompasses dance, jumps, tumbling and stunts all in a two-and-a-half-minute routine! Cheerleaders train year round and are taught how to increase their strength, flexibility and coordination whilst also learning confidence through performance. Because of our positive and inclusive environment, our cheerleaders also find cheer is a positive social outlet where they can connect with people their own age who share a similar interest. Competitive cheer requires commitment! Cheerleaders are required at EVERY training session so that routines, stunts and pyramids can be practiced and perfected when cheerleaders miss training sessions, the progress of the team is delayed. Our recreation classes are perfect for cheerleaders who may not be able to take on such a commitment. 4 reasons you should do cheer Get fit, have fun Train locally Meet new friends and develop strong team work Boys and girls welcome (from 5 years and up) Page 1

Competitive Squads Heat Cheerleading CHEER Heat Cheerleading trains from February to December with breaks during the school holidays. Training for competitive cheerleading is hard, but incredibly rewarding as athletes get to experience the incredible feeling of performing their skills in front of huge crowds of cheering spectators! All-Star Cheer has specific levels for each team with specific skills required for each level. Generally, cheerleaders start in Level 1 and progress to higher teams as their skills develop. Advancement to Level 2 and 3 teams is by invitation only, usually after cheerleaders have attained a certain level of skill with their tumble and stunt ability. Enthusiasm, an eagerness to learn and being a good team member are important qualities and are also taken into consideration. Cheerleaders who demonstrate these qualities may be invited to join higher level teams if they haven t yet mastered the desired skills! For Level 1 teams, we provide families the option of participating in recreational teams that only compete in local competitions (including one interstate competition in Wollongong) or participating in travelling teams that compete in both local and interstate competitions. When joining Heat Cheerleading, parents must indicate the level of commitment they would prefer for their cheerleader and their cheerleader will be placed in the appropriate team. Cheerleaders opting for the interstate teams MUST commit to the travel required for those competitions. Cheerleaders participating in Level 2 and Level 3 teams MUST commit to both local and interstate competitions. Cheerleaders are expected to participate fully at all training sessions and parents must be comfortable with and agree to the extra commitment to training and attendance at interstate competitions before their cheerleader will be allowed to participate in these teams. Non-competitive Cheer Heat Cheerleading generally only offers non-competitive cheer classes in Terms 3 and 4, subject to sufficient interest. DANCE Parents can opt for their cheerleaders to compete in either the local competitions (including Wollongong) or both local and interstate competitions in dance teams, but must indicate at the start of the cheer season which option they are taking, and routines will be choreographed accordingly.
