6th Annual Production Sale February 11, 2017 1 p.m. Wetonka, South Dakota

6th Annual Production Sale February 11, 2017 at the ranch in Wetonka, South Dakota (13 miles west and 9 miles north of Aberdeen, SD) Dear Cattlemen, Welcome to our 6th annual production sale. We understand the last couple of years your hard earned dollars were a little harder to come by so we greatly appreciate your consideration of our cattle and trust in our genetics as you look to spend them. Whether you are a longtime customer or a first-time buyer, a purebred or a commercial cattleman, we feel we have something that will fit your needs. At Treftz Limousin, we have diligently worked at producing seedstock that will add muscle and performance as well as maternal traits, bulls that will take the horns off your calves, and cattle that are easy to handle. Not every one fits the bill, but the cull list gets shorter every year. The sale again this year will be conducted through DVAuction with all the sale cattle penned up nearby for easy viewing. If you are not comfortable with the internet, we will still have a very competent sales staff that will be able to help you over the phone. Their numbers are listed in the catalog. We please ask if you plan on purchasing online, contact us well in advance of the sale so we can help you find a bull or heifer that fits your needs. With the mixture of stress and excitement sale day, sometimes we forget to mention those who make any venture a success. From family that help day to day, great neighbors who are quick to lend a hand, or do your chores when you need to be away, friends preparing and serving lunch, those taking bids on the phone, helping pen cattle, buyers who have driven many miles to attend, and those who buy our genetics, we are truly grateful! Come early sale day and give yourself plenty of time to go through the bulls and enjoy some coffee and cookies. And remember, support your breed, buy registered bulls. Sincerely, Glenn, Lori, Dustin, Courtney, Reece, and Blue SALE CONSULTANT: GLENN TFTZ 12510 370th Avenue Wetonka, SD 57481 Phone: 605-380-0014 treftzlimousin.com KILEY MCKINNA 648 West Sawgrass Trail Dakota Dunes, SD 57049 402.350.3447 mcmarketingsales@aol.com

Along with the fall bulls, both groups are virgin bulls and ready to settle many cows. They have been on a limited 45 megacal ration of corn, dried distiller s grain and free choice prairie hay to keep them in optimal breeding condition. The yearling bulls have had a similar diet of corn, dried distiller s grain, topped off with 1 pound of full fat soybean meal and free choice prairie hay for a 47 megacal ration. This fall, we were approached by Purina to take part in a research trial testing a new feed product on our freshly weaned bull calves for 27 days. We always felt our Limousin cattle were efficient, but both we and those conducting the study were amazed by the results. Even with the stress of weaning and treating a few along the way, an average daily gain of 4.79 lbs. was attained with a feed conversion of 3.81 to 1! It appears that many years of selection pressure on performance, fleshing ability, depth of rib, easygoing docile cattle, and of course a good feed product, are producing results. We expect their offspring to do the same for you. If you are interested in more information regarding the research trial, please inquire. We have developed a handout with much more detailed information The open heifers were selected based on their probability to make great cows. As before, each heifer sells with one straw of semen to breed her to from our bull battery. We will be offering choice on the heifers with the option for the winning bidder to take them both. We tested a handful of the top-end bulls for the F94L gene of which all came back with two copies. The results are listed in the footnotes of these particular bulls. We tested several of the bulls for the homo polled gene and those results are listed as well. The bulls have been fertility tested and vaccinated with Bovi-shield Gold FP5/VL5, anthrax and twice for pinkeye and foot rot prevention. The older bulls have been Trich tested as well. All our cattle are on a complete mineral program year around. Please let us know prior to delivery if there are required vaccinations for your area of the country that are important to you. We will keep the yearling bulls free of charge until April 1, 2017. After a satisfactory fertility exam, we will deliver the bulls with no cost to you up to 250 miles. Beyond that we will work with you in getting your bulls delivered to an agreed upon central point. Please bring your trailers if you are thinking about buying heifers as we would like these to be moved as soon as possible. A veterinarian will be on hand to issue health papers where needed. A supplement sheet will be available online and sale day with adjusted yearling weights, scrotal measurements, and ultrasound data. Go to our website www.treftzlimousin.com or www.dvauction.com for updated pictures, videos, and other data. Again this year, we are including a calving ease score based on a combination of pedigree, EPD s, and calving history from sire and dam. E - Recommended for cows only EE - Should work on cows or heifers EEE - A good choice for breeding heifers

ADJ ADJ ADJ ADJ ADJ ADJ Our family has been raising Limousin cattle for more than 35 years. We are always looking for superior genetics to add to our herd. The Treftz program has consistently provided that for us. Their cattle display all the qualities the Limousin breed is known for such as heavy muscling, excellent growth, and easy fleshing. The 20+ head of females and bulls we have purchased display great temperament and are

ADJ ADJ ADJ ADJ ADJ ADJ the easy doing kind that any rancher will appreciate. The folks at Treftz have had great success in the Limousin breed, but are able to stay humble and listen to the needs and opinions of the cattleman. These are the qualities that make them the type of breeder we will go back to year after year. Verrick and Sarah Schock, Carson, ND

THE STORY BEHIND Treftz Limousin got its start with the purchase of their first of many Limousin bulls in 1983. While most can proudly claim many generations behind their ranch, the Treftz s humbly refer to themselves as a first generation outfit that started with one Hereford heifer calf and a few hogs as its startup along with a supplemental, 27-year offthe-farm, career to make ends meet. Slowly, yet determinedly, a breeding-up program began using purebred and fullblood registered bulls. Seeing the first set of fancy halfblood calves with those thick hindquarters, Glenn knew there was no turning back and his Treftz Limousin Where Muscle Still Matters

sincere passion for the carcass breed and Treftz Limousin began. Early on, heavy selection pressure was on muscle, a trait Treftz cattle are still known for today, and a reason they are highly sought after. More than 30 years later, the herd of 150 mostly purebred registered spring and fall calving females are all home-raised descendants from that original group of crossbred cows and proudly carry the TZ brand on their right hip. Strong cow families emphasizing bred-in performance, fleshing ability, fertility, disposition and milk comprise the herd today. The registered cows are run like a commercial herd with the commercial cowman in mind. Easyfleshing Treftz cows with volume and muscle thrive in the upper plains of the Midwest whether the temperatures are 100 above or 30 below. Grass hay, alfalfa, and a complete mineral program make up their diet in the winter. A tight 60-day breeding season following a short synchronized AI program keeps the cow herd real. Their everyday job is simple, yet demanding. Bring home a big calf every fall, be bred to calve early the next spring, and maintain optimum condition doing all this on grass alone. Glenn actively served many years on the South Dakota Limousin Association, with his last term as president, and currently serves as the director representing South Dakota on the Heartland Limousin Association. The rest of the crew consists of Lori, a registered nurse at HCR Manor Care; Dustin, a plant operator at Glacial Lake Energy; Courtney, a Family Services Specialist with the State of South Dakota; and Reece, a sophomore at Ipswich High School; and Blue the heeler. You won t find our cattle at shows, but we will gladly show them to you in their natural ring, the pasture. We are confident you will like what you see.

ADJ ADJ ADJ ADJ ADJ JYF Yieldmaster 80Y Sire of Lots 46 & 48 A few things all your bulls have always had in common: Phenotype they are great built bulls that are easily fleshed and their offspring are proof. Fertile no one s lazy here; they re workhorses getting their jobs completed in a 45-day season and daughters have been maturing with ease and breeding well. Longevity currently our 7-1/2-year-old shows no signs of losing any step, he s just as easy to flesh as the day he was bought and as smooth stepped as well. And yes, the muscle still matters ; just ask the local butcher! Larry and Matt Stern, Freeman, SD

LOT 52A Treftz bulls have top-notch dispositions, are physically sound, have problem-free feet and also hold their flesh very well. They look the same on day 45 of the breeding season as they did on day one. That along with the emphasis Glenn has put on his cow herd with broody cows that are very easy-fleshing, sound and have ample milk are what I m looking to accomplish with my herd. So by using bulls from cows that I would like to have only makes sense. James Leier, Dawson, ND
