Please Keep the Volume Down We have had complaints regarding the volume of music during bocce matches. 2 Please be aware that your taste in music may not be the same as your opponents or surrounding teams playing on adjacent courts. So please be courteous to your fellow members and keep the volume to a level so that it does not interfere with the pleasure and enjoyment of other players. If asked to turn it down, please comply.

6 Completion of the Score-sheet Please take the time to fill out the score-sheet correctly. It is putting added pressure on the scorekeeping staff when they have to investigate which teams are playing in what leagues. You can all see the number of teams in our leagues and it is no mean feat to get this updated ready for posting on Sunday so please play your part in assisting us to accomplish this. SENIOR players your divisions are either RED, WHITE or GREEN. DO NOT PUT SENIORS in the DIVISION BOX.
7 July 4 th Tournament Some apologies here. The photos that I thought were coming have not arrived but I do have the Winners and Runners-up pictures. Winners were the team of Keith Machado & Redmond O Colonies and the Runners-up were Matt & Tony Jr. Randazzo. Third place were the team of Manny Romo & Bob Kennedy and 4 th spot was taken by Roberto Lonardo & Toi Silva. It was another very enjoyable and traditional tournament which is always well attended. Good weather, good food, good sportsmanship and good company. Looking forward to the 2018 event.

10 NORCAL INDOOR BOCCE I have kept this edition back waiting for any official news regarding indoor bocce this fall/winter at NorCal and as of today, August 17th, there has unfortunately, been no good news. NorCal has asked for permission to change the use to basketball, volleyball and futsal and unfortunately I cannot see any reason why it should not be granted. I have written many times regarding the set-up of indoor bocce in Martinez. The last time I wrote to NorCal I expressed the regret of the 600 players who would be missing out this fall/winter season and a proposal was put forward suggesting that if each of the 600 players were to pay $100 each then bocce would be available all year but they would still need to increase revenue from that base. I have inserted part of the email below but due to time constraints it seems impossible to go ahead with any plans for this. The email explains itself. So unless, as it states, Absent a bocce aficionado with deep pockets and a willingness to take a chance, it does not look good. They plan to level the floor within the next ten days. The date of the email is 8/12/2017. So, if there is someone reading this article and willing to Take A Chance, then maybe we can save Indoor Bocce here in Martinez for future years and strengthen the ties between Martinez & Bocce in our town. Vic Delpine. Dear Vic, I hate to disappoint you. Yes, if we had $60K for bocce it would be open all year and we would still need to increase revenue from that base. However, even with your amazing organizational ability and passion for bocce, it would take 1-2 months to rally the troops and no way to know that the effort would be successful. Meantime, I have to move now in order to catch the futsal and volleyball seasons. Absent a bocce aficionado with deep pockets and a willingness to take a chance, I plan to level the floor within the next 10 days. Probably by mid-next week we will have the final "go" signal. At that point I will write to the bocce community as I promised I would. As I said before, I am glad we put bocce in and it has been a good experience. I did learn, though, that bocce is played on terms that don't match well with my ambition. I believe one needs to be a bocce insider and, even then, it is difficult to get a sustainable program going. Marta Moss Senz
