No. 2012-SP84 Issued: October 18, 2012 Dunlop Sports Introduces the New XXIO Prime Longer ball flight even with lower head speed Dunlop Sports Co. Ltd. (Head office: Kobe, Japan; President: Yasushi Nojiri) is pleased to announce the latest introductions to its XXIO Prime series, popular with senior golfers for their luxurious design and ability to hit the ball far. The woods include a driver (#1) and fairway woods (#3, #4, #5, #7, #9, #11). The irons are offered in sets of five (#6 through #9 and PW) or eight (#5 through #9 and PW, AW, SW). In addition, clubs #5, AW, and SW will be sold individually. Scheduled to be released in stores on December 14, 2012, the new clubs will be subject to open pricing. Now in its seventh edition, the New XXIO Prime series features the same highly popular Dual Speed Technology 1 first introduced on Dunlop s XXIO7 series in December 2011, newly reengineered exclusively for players who hit with lower head speed. In addition to offering an even more refined look, this latest edition boasts a range of features that make it perfect for an active golfing life. 1 Dunlop Sports original technology, developed to provide both higher head speed and higher ball speed. Key Features of the New XXIO Prime Woods Dual Speed Technology reengineered especially for golfers with lower head speed 1 Higher Head Speed (1) Reduced club moment of inertia (MOI) 2 The New XXIO Prime series exclusively designed SP-700 carbon shaft employs Dunlop s newly developed DST Structure 3 at the head end, resulting in a lighter tip that moves the center of gravity (CG) 10mm 4 closer to the grip compared to the previous model and makes the club 2g lighter. This new design reduces the club s MOI and makes it much easier to swing, thereby generating higher head speed. 2 Measurement of club rotation when using the grip end as the fulcrum. 3 Provides enhanced strength for Dual Speed Technology s grip-end weight distribution. 4 Numerical value for driver. CG for fairway woods is 20mm closer to grip.
(2) New shaft rigidity design The newly developed SP-700 carbon shaft is designed to allow even more flexing at the grip end than the previous model, meaning even players with slower swings will see their club head speed increase. In addition, Dunlop Sports newly developed DST Structure makes the head end more flexible than before, making it easier to get the ball airborne. 2 Higher ball speed (1) Higher club head kinetic energy Club head weight has been increased by 1g over the previous model, imparting more kinetic energy to the ball upon impact and generating higher ball speed. (2) Expanded sweet spot tailored to senior golfers strike point The driver s new face thickness design features a 3% larger sweet spot over the previous model, resulting in higher average ball speed. The fairway woods feature a new face thickness design optimally customized for each club to match senior golfers strike point distribution, resulting in higher average ball speed.
Key Features of the New XXIO Prime Irons Dual Speed Technology specially reengineered for players with lower head speed 1 Higher Head Speed The New XXIO Prime irons are equipped with a SP-700 carbon shaft (for irons) featuring a lighter tip that moves the club s center of gravity (CG) 30mm closer to the grip. The club is 1g lighter than the previous model, thereby reducing its MOI and generating higher head speed. (numerical values for #6 iron) 2 Higher head speed (1) Higher club head kinetic energy Club head weight has been increased by 2g over the previous model, thereby imparting more kinetic energy to the ball upon impact and generating higher ball speed. (numerical value for #6 iron) (2) Higher average ball speed A new face thickness design, optimally customized for each club to match senior golfers strike point distribution, results in higher average ball speed. XXIO Prime s merit further evolves 1. Effortless flight and distance 1 The design of the SP-700 carbon shaft for woods reduces the rigidity of the shaft tip, generating more impact loft to help golfers get the ball higher into the air with less effort. 2 Lower, deeper center of gravity for all clubs The driver s head weight has been redistributed, making its center of gravity lower and deeper. The fairway woods feature an enlarged tungsten-nickel sole for a lower center of gravity. In addition, the irons feature a heavier cavity sole that makes the center of gravity in the head lower and deeper. As a result of these improvements, all of the clubs make it easier to get the ball airborne. (Structure of fairway woods)
2. Reduced distance loss on miss-hits The woods new face thickness distribution is optimally customized for each club so the sweet spot matches the strike point distribution of golfers with slower head speed, thereby preventing distance loss on off-center hits. For the irons, a tungsten-nickel neck and sole weight redistributes weight away for the center toward the periphery, thereby increasing the club head s MOI and achieving greater forgiveness on off-center hits. 3. Exhilarating impact sound In the driver, a new transverse sound rib design produces high-frequency vibrations to ensure a high, steady and exhilarating impact sound when teeing off. 4. An even more refined look The XXIO Prime offers a beautifully crafted, refined appearance with gold as the unifying theme in all the clubs. The body of the woods is finished in high-gloss metallic paint with gradations of green and brown, with a gold ion-plated face and sole. The irons have a silver body highlighted with gold components to match the woods.
