Situation. n accordance with the references, the Base Safet y Center (BSC) wi l l host a "Critical Days of Summer" Safety Stand- Down at the Base Training Center, (Base Theater) on mainside on 14 May 2014. The Safety Stand- Down presentation will be presented by guest speaker's f r om the San Diego Veterans Affairs (VA) Spinal Cord njury (SC ) Center and the nstallation Traffic Safety Manager. The Safety Stand- Down wil l be open to all commands and civilians aboard Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton (MCB CamPen). 2. Miss i on. To conduct the annual pre- summer Safety Stand-Down on 14 May 2014 from 0900 to 1100 and 1 300 to 1500. The BSC in conjunction with San Di ego VA SC Center will conduct the annual summer Safety Stand- Down to reinforce off- duty recreation safety and safe driving practices. The sequence of events are provided in enclosure (1 ). Enclosur e (2) lists the weekly topic s that units should focus on during t h e " Cri tical Days o f Summer" Campaign. Newsletters will be published by the BSC one week prior to weekly topics. Enclosure (3) provides dates f or specifi c events by Marine Corps Community Services. 3. Execution a. Commander' s ntent and Concept of Operations (1) Commander' s ntent. To ensure all Marines, Sail ors, and Civilians clearly understand and apply operational risk management, and avoi d becoming a statistic of one or more of the fatal f our (alcohol, speed, fatigue, seatbelts ) causes of death that involves operati on of motor vehi cles, and o ff-duty recreation during the summer months. The San Diego VA SC Center provi des educational presentations to bring awareness of spinal injuries and the effects on quality o f l ife. Whether it is an on- duty or off-duty mishap, personnel who suffer these types of injuries live with life- long rehabilitation. Active duty and retired s e r v ice members from the SC Center will have an opportunity to share their stories. *The nstallation Traffic Safety Manager will provide motor vehicle (automobile and motorcycle ) information focusing on safe driving, common causes of vehic l e accidents, and available training resources.
