Medical Conditions Aggravated by Exposure Carcinogenicity (IARC, NTP) Cancer information: Potential Environmental Effects 4. First Aid Measures Routes of Exposure First Aid Instructions Immediate Medical Attention Delayed Effects Eye If symptoms develop, move individual away from exposure into fresh air. Flush eyes gently with water while holding eyelids apart. If symptoms persist or there us any visual difficulty, seek medical attention. If eye contact with molten material occurs, hold eyelids apart and flush eyes gently with cool water. Seek immediate medical attention. Skin First aid is not normally required. However, it is recommended that exposed areas be cleaned by washing with soap and water. If skin contact with molten materials occurs, flush exposed area with cool water. Do not forcibly remove material adhering to skin. First aid is not normally required. If symptoms develop, move individual away from exposure and into fresh air. Swallowing: First aid is not normally required Seek immediate medical attention. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention. Ingestion If symptoms develop, seek medical attention. Note to Physicians (Treatment, Testing, and Monitoring) Preexisting disorders of the following organs (or organ systems) may be aggravated by exposure to this material: lung (for example, asthma-like Conditions). Flashpoint & Method: C / F N/A Flame Propagation or Burning 5. Fire and Explosion Data Flammable (Explosive) Limits in Air LEL: UEL: Properties Contributing to Fire Intensity Autoignition Temperature Flammability Classification Health-, Flammability-, Reactivity- Hazardous products of combustion: May form carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, toxic fumes. Extinguishing Media Extinguishing Media to Avoid Water fog, carbon dioxide, and dry chemical. Protection and Procedures for Firefighters Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus with a full-face piece operated in the positive pressure demand mode with appropriate turnout gear and chemical resistant personal protective equipment. Refer to the personal protective equipment section of this MSDS. NFPA RATING: Health-1, Flammability-1, Reactivity-0. 6. Accidental Release Measures Containment Techniques Spill/Leak Clean-Up Procedures and Equipment Small spill: Sweep up material for disposal and recovery. Plastic pellets may present a slipping hazard when spilled on walking surfaces. Large spill: Shovel material into containers; Thoroughly sweep area of spill to clean up any residual material. Plastic pellets may present a slipping hazard when spilled on walking surface. Evacuation Procedures Special Instructions Reporting Requirements 7. Handling and Storage Handling Practices and Warnings No adverse health effects are anticipated from the product at room temperature. However, at process temperatures, the product can emit fumes and vapors, which may cause irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract. Any exposure will depend on processing technique and temperature, volume processed and the effectiveness of exhaust ventilation provided from the process. Effects of chronic exposure to off-gases at processing temperatures have not been fully elevated. Generally, flame retardant additives and pigment additives are encapsulated in an impervious plastic matrix. These additives are not expected to present a hazard. Pellets may build upon static electricity when being transferred from one container to another. Mechanical handling equipment can cause formation of dusts. Maintain good housekeeping. Dust layers should not be permitted to accumulate in order to avoid any potential for dust explosion hazards. Storage Practices and Warnings Shelf life: 2 years. Ventilation 8. Exposure Control/Personal Protection Engineering Controls Provide sufficient mechanical (general and / or local exhaust) ventilation to maintain exposure below level of overexposure ( from known, suspected or apparent adverse effects). Routes of Entry: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Normal Use: PPE for Emergencies: Eye/Face Wear safety glasses in compliance with OSHA regulations. Skin Wear normal clothing covering arms and legs. If overexposure has to be determined or documented, a NIOSH/MSHA jointly approved air supplied respirator is advised in absence of proper environmental control. OSHA regulations also permit other NIOSH/MSHA respirators under specified conditions. Engineering or administrative controls should be implemented to reduce exposure. General Hygiene Considerations and Work Practices Protective Measures During Repair and Maintenance of Contaminated Equipment Protective Measures and Equipment Consult your safety products supplier for proper protective equipment to sue for thermal processing operations.
