Description: This race is perfect for first timers as well as seasoned veterans of the sport. This sprint distance tri consists of a 350 meter swim followed by a 12.2 mile bike ride on paved roads then a 2.92 mile run around Medical Lake. The race is a mass start with a single transition area that is perfect for spectators. Water aid stations will be located at transition, every 1-1.5 miles on the run, and at the finish. RACE DAY DETAILS: Where: Coney Island Park (Lake & Jefferson) Medical Lake, WA Date: Saturday June 18 th at 1 p.m. Distances: 350M swim, 12.2. mi bike, 2.92 mi run Schedule of Events: Saturday June 18 th Rules 11:30 a.m. transition area and registration open for day of race entry and packet pick up. 12:30 p.m. Pre-race meeting at Coney Island park followed by a caravan led by the Lakeland Village train will transport racers around the lake to the swim start area. Participants are welcome to swim across to the swim start area (granite quarry) directly across from Coney Island Park. Swimmers will exit the water at Coney Island Park. 1 p.m. Race start 3 p.m. Awards 4 p.m. course closes Swim: Participants must have contact with some portion of the shore or lake bottom at start time. Bike: Always pass on the left of the cyclist ahead of you, just like a car. Never pass on the right and always communicate to those you are passing on your left is a great way to let someone know you are going to pass. Portable music devices, MP3 or earbuds/headphones are NOT allowed at any time during this race. This is a safety issue for not only the athlete but to your fellow athletes. Please do not use these devices as they don t allow you to hear fellow riders, cars or potentially serious situations. HELMETS ARE REQUIRED to race. Please do not forget your helmet the morning of the race. ANSI or SNELL approved helmets are required, check for the sticker on the inside of the helmet. Helmets should be securely fastened at all times as you leave the transition area and return to the transition area from the bike leg of the triathlon. Please wear your helmet when riding and arriving in the park on race day. BICYCLE DISMOUNT AND MOUNT AREA. You may not ride your bike through any part of the transition area. Athletes must walk or run with their bicycle to the mount and dismount bicycle area DRAFTING is illegal. Taking pace from another bicycle or car is not allowed at any time. We understand that sometimes it is hard to avoid. Do not take pace from another rider ahead of you. You must leave 7 meters or 4 bike lengths from the rider in front of you. If you are overtaken, it is your responsibility to drop back 7 meters to avoid this situation. Complete your passing quickly in order to avoid drafting penalties. Drafting penalties will be 2 minutes per offense. BIKE COURSE: The bike course is not a closed course and you must always be heads up to traffic and obey traffic laws. Please be aware of drivers that may be pulling out of driveways or that are passing you on the course. Stay
to the right of the roadway except for passing other ladies on the left but do so only when you ve looked behind for oncoming traffic and it is safe to pass. PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE, we must follow the rules of the road. RUN COURSE: The run course is open to auto traffic, stay heads up! The entire run will be completed on the paved trail around Medical Lake, on residential roads this is marked by a solid white line. Course markings will also me in place as well as volunteers. LITTERING. No littering at any time on the bike, run or in the transition area. Within the water/aid stations you may throw your cups but there are garbage cans that you can dispose of your cups as you exit the water station areas as well. Help out our volunteers as much as possible. Thank you. Race Day Information: This race is perfect for first timers as well as seasoned veterans of the sport. An early season sprint distance race surrounded by small town activities. Come early for the Founder s Day parade, antique car show, 3 on 3 basketball tournament, softball tournament, historic bus tour through the town and more. Stay afterward for many of these and other activities in the town of Medical Lake. Plan to arrive to the transition area about an hour prior to race start time to accommodate set up and timing chip activation. Nomadz Racing will be providing timing services and spectators will be able to track their athlete throughout the race. Results will be posted in the transition area as they develop. Streaming video of the race can also be accessed and is provided via a video enabled drone flying overhead. After the pre-race meeting, participants will choose to either swim across the lake to the starting area at the historic granite quarry across from Coney Island Park or they can elect to ride the Lakeland village train to the start area. Swimmers will cross the lake, climb out of the water and head to their transition area to complete the bike portion. A lead cyclist motorcycle will accompany the first biker throughout the course. Upon completion of the bike portion of the race racers will complete one lap around Medical Lake following the paved running trail. A lead runner cyclist will accompany the first racer throughout this portion of the race. Water and fruit will be provided at the finish. Awards will be provided for the top 3 male and female finishers in each age group and to the top 3 teams. Top male and female overall will receive separate awards.
