6 th February 2018 STATION ROAD KNOWLE SOLIHULL B93 0PT 01564 773 348 WWW.ARDEN.SOLIHULL.SCH.UK Dear Parents/Guardians Ski Trip 2018, Saalbach, Austria: Friday 16 th Saturday 24 th February 2018 With just over a week until we leave for the ski trip, pupils and staff are getting excited and looking forward to the long awaited departure for Austria. With this in mind there is some important information and reminders that I would like to share with you. Coach List/Pocket Money Leaders We will publish lists at school for the pupils to check which coach they are on and who their pocket money leader is. This will be done in the coming week. Equipment List A list of what to take is attached for your information and guidance. Itinerary A copy is attached. Pre-Trip Administration Passports, EHIC (health cards) and pocket money should be brought into school on Thursday 8 th February 2018. Passports and EHICs should be sent in an envelope clearly labelled with your child s name and Austria Ski Trip and pocket money should be a separate sealed envelope clearly marked with your child s name and the amount of money the envelope contains in Euros; both envelopes should handed to Miss Sheppard between 8:00am and 8:30am at Reception. It is essential that these items are not handed to anyone other than Miss Sheppard and that they are all brought in on Thursday 8 th February; it is very time consuming to chase up the latecomers. All items will be stored in the school safe until departure. Accommodation Details JGH Hinterbrandthof, Brandtweg 241, 5754 Saalbach Hinterglemm, Austria. Please may we ask that you only make contact in the event of an emergency. We will confirm our arrival in Austria and expected arrival time back at Arden via the following Twitter account. We will try to post other information during the trip (time permitting); however this Twitter account is available as a main source of information only. @_AustriaSki18 Departure Details Our departure date is Friday 16 th February, which is a normal school day. The coaches will be arriving at school at 4:15pm. The old PE changing rooms will be available for students to store their bags during the school day and will be locked for the entire day. I would strongly advise that their bags are brought into school on the morning and stored for the day. Please ensure your child is back at school for 4:15pm if they do go home after school and then come back. Pupils may take a small bag for hand luggage and a medium sized, soft bag for the coach hold (ensuring they have a pair of ski socks in their hand luggage for ski fit). Please do not send them with a full sized hard suitcase, as we will not be able to fit it on to the coach. We will be selling bottled water on the coach (50p) so some English change would be useful. They will also need some spending money in Pounds/Euros for the journey. The coach is scheduled to leave Arden at 4:45pm promptly. Please note; the coaches will be parking on school site (for departure and arrival). No parking for parents cars on site on Friday 16 th sorry, but limited parking may be available on Saturday 24 th February. We are due back at Arden on Saturday 24 th February at 6:00pm. This will be dependent on traffic, more specific time and details will be updated on the trip Twitter account. Travel Details Both of our coaches are fitted with DVD players. Pupils may bring a selection of DVDs to help make the journey more enjoyable, needless to say these DVDs must not be 15 and 18 rated and should be suitable for a school trip. We will be crossing the channel by ferry from Dover to Calais and from there making our way by road to Austria. It is recommended that your child brings a packed tea with drinks and snacks to eat on the way. NO NUTS OR NUT PRODUCTS ON THE COACHES. We have placed a ban on pro-plus and other caffeine tablets and also Red Bull and similar drinks. We have had problems in the past with pupils becoming ill after consuming such products. Additionally the caffeine will increase the risk of dehydration, already at an increased risk due to altitude. I would ask for your support in this matter.
FIRST AID/MEDICINES A supply of paracetamol, anti-histamine and travel sickness tablets will be taken. Your child may only be given this medication if have ticked the appropriate sections of the Final Consent & Medical Information Form. Students are responsible for taking their own medication as required all medication taken must be recorded on the Final Consent and Medical Form and students must inform staff if any medication needs to be taken. If you wish us to hold any medication whilst we are away please hand this to Mrs Foulkes, together with written instructions. If you would prefer to let us have it before the day that is fine, Mrs Foulkes will take care of it prior to the trip. Students who have medical Care Plans copies of these will be taken on the visit and any spare medicines held at school will be taken by staff for this visit. In case of illness, students may be allowed to remain at the accommodation with supervision. Students will be accompanied to the doctor or to the hospital if appropriate. Parents will be contacted as necessary.
