1. The history(1) 1.1 The origin of the Chinese horse domestication Before the 2100 B.C., there was a written record of horse domestication in China. It is supported that the evidences of rock paintings and carvings made by ancient people in China, reflect the truth of horse utilization in the 1300 B.C. Some sheep and two herdsmen are on the rock painting, named as grazing in the Kunlun Mountains of Xinjiang Province. (Photographer: Duo lu shen)

1. The history(2) 1.2 China is one of first owning horse racing history in the world. Horse is one of the earliest domesticated animals by humans. The Ancients was breeding horses at 4200 years ago. The people use horses to drive in Shang Dynasty (1600-1046,B.C.) and also, the saddle horse with clay indicates the advanced husbandry around the area of Yellow River. 1. The history (6) 1.3 China is one of the countries, making great contributions to horse utilization. Stirrup was invented and primitively used in China. The earliest stirrup-like item was found with a pottery horse and a rider in an ancient site of Changsha city, Hunan province, which was built in Xi Jing Dynasty(266-316 A.D.). The only one triangle stirrup hang near by the saddle on the left side of horse. The pottery horse of Changsha city made in Xi Jing Dynasty (302 B.C.)

1. The history (8) 1.4 China, the country developed the earliest methodology on horse judging. In the Spring, Autumn and the Warring States Periods, horse judging was well-developed. The emergence of Horse Judging Classics, a famous work of Bo Le, who is a talent of horse judging, and other famous experts indicate the first great development of horse judging in China.

2. The current situation (3) 2.1 Breed and population 3 Thoroughbreds in the mainland. There are about 3,000 Thoroughbreds in the mainland, and about 400 of them were registered with China Stud Book.

2. The current situation (4) 2.2 The distribution of racecourses in the mainland There are 16 racecourses in China proximitly, located mainly in Beijing, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Wuhan, Jinan, Nanjing and Guangzhou.

2. 2.The current situation(7) 2.4 Organizations of CHIA Founded in 2002, leader of conducting China horse industry, belongs to Ministry of Agriculture Branches: Equine Technical Committee, CHIA Equine Nutrition Committee, CHIA Equine Breeding Committee, CHIA Equine Veterinary Medicine Committee, CHIA China Stud Book, CHIA Horse Racing Committee, CHIA Equine Farm Stud Committee, CHIA Another Committee such as Polo and Saddlery (Preparing) Right:Changxin Wu, former president of CHIA Left:Youling Jia, president of CHIA

The current situation (8) 2.5 CHIA s business scope 1) To formulate registration rules for Thoroughbreds and other horse breeds in the mainland. 2) To carry out equine research and training on the preservation, breeding, nutrition, veterinary care and to provide technical consultancy service for the membership. 3) To organize and coordinate with the horse exhibitions, auctions,ratings, importing and exporting trades, management and registration of horse racing, and to carry forward the national culture for improving the equine culture level in the mainland.

The current situation(9) 2.6 China Stud Book, CHIA Certificate Authority: Ministry of Agricultural and Ministry of Civil Affairs Date of registration: Aug. 2 nd, 2002 Business scope: to undertake the registration of Thoroughbreds in the mainland in accordance with registration rules of the International Stud Book Committee (ISBC). The difficulties: racing organizers in the mainland have no requirements for registration on participating horses. Thoroughbred racing in the mainland is held without following the international racing rules.

The current situation (10) 2.7 Rules and Regulations CHIA have to do some rules and regulations: Rules for Thoroughbred racing Rules for endurance racing Rules for Breeders Cup Legal and regulations framework of horse racing in the world Regulations for organization and management of Thoroughbred racing

3. Prospect 3.1 To attend ARF and join the international racing organization. 3.2 To organize horse racing with integrity and by following the international breed registration rules. 3.3 To integrate resource of horse owners and organizations in the mainland and international horse organizations. 3.4 To push forward local racing, improve the development of horse racing in the mainland, and conduct the 1-4-3 (100 billion GDP,40 billion tax,3 million workers)project of horse industry in the mainland. 3.5 To host ARC in the mainland in the future when it is suitable. 3.6 To make more contributions to horse racing industry in China and the world and to provide more services to horse owners and horse fans in the mainland.
