THE FUTURE OF BIKESHARING: THE NEW BICING CONTRACT Extension of territorial coverage and availability of the Bicing. The implementation of the new Bicing stations responds to the desire to improve the service and encourage the use of bicycles in the city. This project aims to: Extend the territorial coverage of the Bicing, creating new stations in areas where it is currently not present. Create new stations to support current stations and standardize the distribution of stations in the territory (300m distance between stations) 14
THE FUTURE OF BIKESHARING: THE NEW BICING CONTRACT 15
THE FUTURE OF BIKESHARING: OTHER BIKESHARING SYSTEMS One way system Regular use Occasional use Bycicle renthal companies Dockless systems REGULATION 16
THE FUTURE OF BIKESHARING: OTHER BIKESHARING SYSTEMS Objectives of regulation Promote more sustainable, efficient and safe mobility in the city. Reduce the use of the private vehicle and the fleet of cars and motorcycles. Provide more slow and flexible mobility Guarantee the right to mobility of those who do not have a private vehicle Encourage and promote the modal exchange between public transport and all sharing systems Improve citizens quality of life reducing local emissions, atmospheric pollution, noise and the visual impact of private vehicles. 17
THE FUTURE OF BIKESHARING: OTHER BIKESHARING SYSTEMS Vision of the City Council Bikesharing models should coexist with the city's public bicycle service, Bicing, which is a one-way system. Therefore, it is wanted to promote the dockless freefloating bikesharing models, as opposed to one-way systems. It is a complementary service to local mobility and conventional bicycle rental, as it will be able to offer rent to the tourist outside of the local business hours. To avoid the problems associated with the occupation of public space, its surface parking will be regulated. 18
THE FUTURE OF BIKESHARING: OTHER BIKESHARING SYSTEMS Positive impacts of bikesharing systems They help to reduce atmospheric pollution, noise and local emissions. Bikesharing encourages the use of the bicycle. They influence the behavior of the travelers, since it increases the supply of means of transport, increasing the intermodality and favoring the use of the public transport and the displacement on foot. It is a good option to cover connection journeys or delivery of small packages by courier companies. Bikesharing in a limited number complements public bicycle and public rental systems. 19
THE FUTURE OF BIKESHARING: OTHER BIKESHARING SYSTEMS Negative impacts of bikesharing systems Strong occupation of public space, which can reach its privatization. Problems of competition between companies (companies that operate with a license from a local and those that do without a license in the street). Bikesharing generates overcrowding in the parking lot and hinders the rotation of bicycles. Lack of civility in the parking of motorcycles and bicycles, which is difficult to control for companies if they do not have geolocated vehicles or if they do not have a strict internal control system. Therefore, a clear and coherent legal framework must be established between all the sharing systems that allow operators to take advantage of the systems in a safe and stable way and allow the City Council to define the uses and spaces determined in the public space and minimize the negative impacts. 20
