SAFETY CONTROL MEASURES: a. PACKAGING - Packagings prescribed are nn-dot specificatin, metal, single trip, inside cntainers, described as hermetically sealed electrn tube radiatin sensrs. Radiatin sensrs may nt exceed a vlume f 853 cubic inches water capacity. The maximum design (perating) pressure must be 412 psig. The design burst pressure f the radiatin sensr must be at least 4 times the design pressure, r 3 times the design pressure if equipped with a

Each radiatin sensr must be cnstructed f stainless steel, aluminum, r titanium and must cnfrm t LND calculatins and drawings n file with the Office f Hazardus Materials Special Permits and Apprvals. Each radiatin sensr must be visually inspected and vacuum leak checked using a helium mass-spectrmeter leak detectr prir t filling. b. OPERATIONAL CONTROLS (1) Each radiatin sensr must be shipped in a strng utside packaging capable f withstanding a minimum drp test f fur feet withut breakage f the radiatin sensr r rupture f the utside packaging. (2) If repackaged, packagings used t ship larger equipment cntaining radiatin sensrs cvered by this special permit must be strng utside packagings prviding equivalent prtectin fr the devices as specified in paragraph 7.b.(1) f this special permit. 8. SPECIAL PROVISIONS: a. In accrdance with the prvisins f Paragraph (b) f 173.22a, persns may use the packaging authrized by this special permit fr the transprtatin f the hazardus materials specified in paragraph 6, nly in cnfrmance with the terms f this special permit. b. A persn wh is nt a hlder f this special permit, but receives a package cvered by this special permit, may reffer it fr transprtatin prvided n mdificatins r changes are made t the package and it is ffered fr transprtatin in cnfrmance with this special permit and the HMR. c. A current cpy f this special permit must be maintained at each facility where the package is ffered r reffered fr transprtatin. d. Each packaging manufactured under the authrity f this special permit must be either (1) marked with the name f the manufacturer and lcatin (city and state) f the facility at which it is manufactured r (2) marked with a registratin symbl designated by the Office f Hazardus Materials Special Permits and Apprvals fr a specific manufacturing facility.

It must be made available t a DOT representative upn request. f. Transprtatin f Divisin 2.1 (flammable gases) are nt authrized abard aircraft unless specifically authrized in the Hazardus Materials Table (49 CFR 172.101). 9. MODES OF TRANSPORTATION AUTHORIZED: Mtr vehicle, rail freight, carg vessel, carg aircraft nly, and passengercarrying aircraft (see paragraph 8.f. f this special permit fr mdal restrictins). 10. MODAL REQUIREMENTS: A current cpy f this special permit must be carried abard each carg vessel, aircraft r mtr vehicle used t transprt packages cvered by this special permit. The shipper must furnish a current cpy f this special permit t the air carrier befre r at the time the shipment is tendered. 11. COMPLIANCE: Failure by a persn t cmply with any f the fllwing may result in suspensin r revcatin f this special permit and penalties prescribed by the Federal hazardus materials transprtatin law, 49 U.S.C. 5101 et seq: All terms and cnditins prescribed in this special permit and the Hazardus Materials Regulatins, 49 CFR Parts 171-180. Persns perating under the terms f this special permit must cmply with the security plan requirement in Subpart I f Part 172 f the HMR, when applicable.
