Introduction Adventure International is one of the premier providers of Multi-Activity holidays in the country. Located in the heart of Bude a small town on the North Cornish coast Adventure International has grown in both size and reputation since business began in 1979 and has now provided multi activity holidays to over 100,000 school and family members. Employment with Adventure International will guarantee you a summer like no other. Living only a stones throw away from some of the best surf beaches the coast has to offer and the best climbing on the culm coast. With a full time instructional staff of 45 there is always someone available! The overall philosophy of the centre is to make sure that all the activities that we offer are accessible to everyone and that our clients are introduced to them in a safe, well-organised and professional manner. To achieve this we pride ourselves on the quality of the instructors we recruit and ensure that the training and employment package that we offer means that working for Adventure International is a rewarding and enjoyable experience like no other. Please read through the information inside this prospectus and if what you find interests you then carefully complete the application form enclosed and return it to us. Many thanks for your interest in a position at Adventure International. Introduction

The Centre Primarily the centre specialises in mainstream school groups who visit the centre from a Sunday evening until Friday afternoon, during this time they will experience 10 differing outdoor activities as well as 4 evening activities and 5 evening entertainments! This course has been designed and modified since the centre began to provide every member of every group the chance to take part in and experience a range of outdoor activities, the importance of teamwork and for many living away from home in an unfamiliar environment for the first time. The above is the most popular course provided by us, however many other courses are also available. During the summer holidays the centre opens it doors to the public providing an ideal venue for a holiday with a difference. Visitors can choose to pick an activity from a range on offer each day or make their own arrangements for a day lazing on the beach! Development training programmes also take place throughout the year with college and university students as well as corporate groups visiting us. The course is designed to include far more team development work, leadership responsibilities and group awareness. This is done through the use of initiative exercises, development tasks and an overnight bivi. The above are the three main courses on offer with many others taking place throughout the year. These range from a daily booking of a session to a rugby club weekend! Adventure International prides itself on being able to provide a course to suit the needs of any group or individual. The Centre

The Facilities Adventure International has a wealth of facilities at its disposal and it is these facilities that shape our activity programme. All the activities on offer either take place in the centre grounds or a short walk away at the following activity sites, Bude Canal, River Neet, Mountain Board Hill, Mountain Bike Track and the spectacular Summerleaze Beach. Staff Training Prior to beginning employment with Adventure International all prospective instructors are required to attend an extensive training course which will last a number of weeks. The course has been developed over the years to provide a multi activity residential instructor with not only the required national governing body awards but also the other important soft skills to become a high quality professional instructor. The exact content of the course will be individually tailored to each instructor s existing skills, qualifications and experience. Candidates that already hold the required pre requisites will be able to train and assess for higher awards. Regardless of experience and qualifications all candidates must attend an introductory session on each activity, where they will be assessed as to their competency to either lead or assist each activity. These assessments are conducted by either a technical expert or senior member of Adventure International staff. Throughout the training course Adventure International undertakes to provide all food, accommodation, training, equipment, assessors and trainers and assessment fees free of charge for the duration of the course. However we do not pay for any logbooks, registrations or memberships of any national governing bodies as these are personal to each individual. During the six weeks of training you will be exhausted due to the intensity of the programme however your efforts will be thoroughly worth it with the qualifications you achieve and the unbelievable experience it provides. Staff Training

Qualifications The following awards are available to Adventure International staff throughout the course of their employment. As mentioned on the previous page much of the fundamental training will be provided during the 6 week staff training course. However courses can be arranged throughout the season for instructors who hold the pre-requisites for each award and are ready for training or assessment. Staff Selection If you have never worked in the outdoor industry previously please do not be put off from applying as we are looking for highly motivated, energetic team players regardless of previous experience or qualifications. Upon receiving your application form we will make a decision regarding whether to invite you for interview. If you are successfully offered a position on a course it will take place over 2 days with between 10 and 20 applicants attending each course. The interview selection course is carefully designed for us to be able to see all the applicants at their best, the activities you participate in are selected to ensure all participants can play a pivotal role regardless of previous experience. All of the sessions on a selection course are conducted in a relaxed and informal manner by the centres senior instruction team. The selection course also gives all the applicants a chance to have a good look around the centre, its facilities, the surrounding area and a chance to meet the staff to ensure this is definitely the type of work you are interested in and the centre you wish to do it. Finally the course allows you to see the standards and commitment the job of an Adventure International instructor requires. During the selection course you will just need to bring plenty of warm clothing, suitable footwear and your swimming kit. Adventure International will provide all of your food, accommodation and any specialist equipment. Unfortunately we cannot pay any travelling expenses but are happy to supply a letter of confirmation to candidates who are able to claim. Upon confirmation of your place on a course you will receive further details and directions to the centre. Staff Selection
