American Smooth Waltz Sequence Dance Waterfall Waltz Background This Sequence dance was choreographed by Steven Porter LISTD and uses Bronze Level American Smooth Waltz Figures. A standard 16 Bar Sequence has been used in this routine. General Notes Time Signature: 3/4 30-32 Bars / Minute Normal Waltz Footwork and Rise & Fall should be used throughout the dance except Bars 2 and 14 for Lady where the normal close action on 3 is not used - see detailed notes below. For Bar 7 (first Bar of the Grapevine) both Man and Lady do not close on Step 3. For all other Bars both the Man and Lady close on step 3. When in an Open single hand hold, the free arm should generally be extended and used in a free flowing manner. When turning under an arm or passing your partner the free arm should be folded in towards the body. Script Summary Man commences Facing the Line of Dance (LOD) in Closed Hold. 1. Two Way Under Arm Turn (6 Bars) 2. Grapevine (2 Bars) 3. Waterfall (4 Bars) 4. Reverse Turn with Under Arm Turn (2 Bars) 5. Progressive Twinkles (2 Bars) Total 16 Bars Note: Twinkles should be danced with feet closing on count 3 of the Bar.! 1

Retain Left to Right Hand Hold for the remaining steps of the Figure. 2 1 RF Back LF Fwd Man no turn. Lady commences to turn Right. 2 LF to Side RF Fwd Man no turn. Lady turns 1/4 to the Right, moving towards the Centre at a right angle to the Man. 3 RF Closes to LF LF Fwd Man no turn. Lady turns 1/4 to the Right to face the LOD. Note the Lady finishes forward on the LF and does not close. 3 1 LF Fwd RF Fwd Both step forward down the LOD retaining Left to Right Hand Hold. Man 1/4 turn to the Left. Lady 1/4 turn to the Right. Both step to side to face each other, Lady slightly to mans Right side. 3 LF Closes to RF RF Closes to LF Retain a high Left to Right Hand hold. Man places the back of his right hand on the Lady s waist to indicate to the Lady that she will pass on the Man s Right side on the next step. 4 1 RF Fwd LF Fwd Retain high Left to Right hand hold as the Man and Lady dance a passing step. 2 LF to Side RF to Side Both turn 3/8 (Man Right, Lady Left). 3 RF Closes to LF LF Closes to RF Both turn 1/4 (Man Right, Lady Left). Finish in Open Counter. Lower the joined hands to a central position. Extend free arm outwards. 5 1 LF Fwd RF Fwd Both step forward against the LOD. Both turn 1/4 (Man Left, Lady Right). 2 3 LF Closes to RF RF Closes to LF Finish in.

6 1 RF Fwd in LF Fwd in 2 LF to Side RF to Side Man no turn. Lady 1/4 turn to the Left. 3 RF Closes to LF LF Closes to RF Finish in Closed Man facing / Lady backing Diagonal to Wall. Figure 2 Grapevine Note Man and Lady do not close on step 3 of the first Bar in the Grapevine. 7 1 LF Fwd RF Back Steps 1 and 2 danced with no turn. 2 RF Fwd Outside LF Back 3 LF to Side RF to Side Man and Lady 1/4 to the Right between 2 and 3. 8 1 RF Back LF Fwd Outside 2 LF to Side RF to Side 3 RF Closes to LF LF Closes to RF Man and Lady 1/4 to the Left between 2 and 3 to finish in Closed backing Diagonal to Wall. Figure 3 Waterfall This Figure starts with a Twinkle to. This is danced similar to a Whisk but closing on beat 3. 9 1 LF Fwd RF Back 3 LF Closes to RF RF Closes to LF Lady turns to the Right to Finish in. 10 1 RF Fwd in LF Fwd in Moving Diagonal to Centre (DC). 2 LF to Side RF to Side Ma takes Lady s Left Hand in Right Hand as the Lady Turns 1/4 to the Left to Face Diagonal to Wall against the LOD. 3 RF Closes to LF LF Closes to RF Man no turn. Lady continues to turn 1/4 to the Left to finish in Shadow (Lady in front of the Man both facing Diagonal to Wall). Both extend the free Left arm outwards - joined Right hands.! 3

11 1 LF Fwd Outside Patner RF Fwd Man raises the joined Right Hands. Man Turns 1/4 to the Left to face Diagonal to Centre. Lady turns 1/2 to the Right to face Diagonal to Centre Against the LOD. Take Left to Left Hand Hold at the end of step 2 and release Right to Right Hand Hold above the Lady s head. 3 LF Closes to RF RF Closes to RF Man no turn. Lady turns an additional 1/4 to the Right to finish facing Diagonal to Centre in Shadow in front of the Man. Man. 12 1 RF Fwd Outside LF Fwd Man no turn. Lady no turn. Moving Diagonal to Centre release Left to Left Hand Hold. 2 LF to Side RF to Side Man no turn. Lady turns 1/2 to the Left between 2 & 3 to regain Closed Hold. Mana and Lady facing Diagonal to Centre. 3 RF Closes to LF LF Closes to RF Finish facing Diagonal to Centre. Figure 4 Reverse Turn with Under Arm Turn 13 1 LF Fwd RF Back 1-3 of a Reverse Turn to finish with Man Backing the Line of Dance, Lady Facing the Line of Dance. 3 LF Closes to RF RF Closes to LF Man releases Right Hand Hold and starts to raise the Left Arm at the end of step 3. 14 1 RF Back LF Fwd Man dances 4-6 Reverse Turn. Lady dances a three step turn pivoting to the Left under the Mans raised Left Arm. The Lady does not close on 3 but finishes with weight on the LF, RF held back. The Lady may omit the under Arm Turn if preferred. 2 LF to Side RF to Side 3 RF Closes to LF LF Fwd Pivoting Action Finish facing Diagonal to Wall (Lady backing Diagonal to Wall) taking Double Hand Hold.! 4
