RIDER INFORMATION PACK LiveLighter Cyclo Sportif York sponsored by the Shire of York Sunday, 18 August 2013 DATE: Sunday, 18 August 2013 TIMES: Registrations: from 7:30am Team/rider briefing: 8:30am Start time: from 9:00am Lunch: from 11:30am Presentations: from 12:30pm LOCATION: DISTANCES: Registrations, team briefing: Avon Pioneer Park, Lowe Street, York Start location: Lowe Street Lunch and presentations: York Town Hall, Avon Terrace York Distance from Perth: 100km (please allow at least 1½ hours travel) A - 108 km, B - 54km, C - 25 km (approx. distances) REGISTRATIONS: Registration will open from 7:30am at Avon Pioneer Park on Lowe St adjacent to the Avon River. Please do not park on Lowe Street as this is reserved for the rider assembly and starting area. Refer Map 1 - Town centre. THE VENUE: The rider assembly area and start/finish line will be on Lowe St opposite the Avon Pioneer Park. Lunch and presentations will be held at the York Town Hall located on the corner of Avon Terrace and Joaquina Street. Lunch is scheduled to commence from around 11:30am onwards and will be proceeded by the prize giving ceremony at 12:30pm. RIDER BRIEFING: All distances The rider briefing will commence at 8.30am for all distance categories. Teams will assemble on Lowe Street near the BWA gantry after the briefing to prepare for the start of the event.
RIDE ASSEMBLY AREA & START LINE: Riders are to assemble in team number order along Lowe Street keeping to the left to allow for local traffic. The gantry and timing equipment will be located on South Street. Please ensure you ride over the timing mat to activate your timing transponder. Refer Error! Reference source not found. **Riders with timing bands please do not cross the start/finish line prior to the start or your team may record an incorrect time** FINISH LINE: The start/ finish line will be at the Bicycling Western Australia gantry on South Street near Pioneer Park. Once you cross the finish line, please clear the area and avoid turning around on South Street to head back to your vehicle. We recommend riding around the block to get back to Pioneer Park. Lap counting Marshals and traffic wardens do not count your laps. Teams will need to know yourself what lap you are on and when you have completed the event. This only applies to A distance riders. Timing cut off 1pm Please exercise caution when exiting the course as there maybe teams riding behind or around you as well as road traffic. LUNCH AND PRESENTATIONS: Following your ride please return to the Town Hall on Avon Terrace where a hot lunch will be served thanks to WA Spit Roast. Yahava Koffeeworks will be selling coffee and hot beverages. Soft drinks will be available for purchase at the venue with proceeds going to the Grass Valley Fire Brigade. Presentations will start approximately from 12:30pm. All riders are automatically entered in the lucky draw raffle and Team Leaders will automatically be entered into a special Team Leaders draw to win a gourmet gift hamper!
GENERAL INFORMATION: Car parking Car parking is available on land opposite the Park as well as other designated areas refer Map 1 - Town centre. Please do not park on Lowe St as this is reserved for the rider assembly and starting area. Toilets Public toilets are situated in the park, at the Town Hall and also on Howick Street opposite the Catholic Church near the corner of South Street. Weather In the case of inclement weather, the event will proceed! Please ensure you have suitable wet weather riding gear with you in case of rain or windy conditions. Water Station The water station will be located on the corner of Beverley & Gwambygine Roads. Spectator points Spectators are welcome around the start/ finish line on Lowe Street at Pioneer Park. MAPS AND COURSE The loop course is a picturesque combination of flat open road and undulating hills offering an enjoyable yet challenging ride in the Avon countryside. A Distance riders will complete two laps of the long course B distance riders will complete only one lap C Distance riders will do one lap of a shortened course (please look for the signs and marshals at the turn off point). The course is a mix of flat and undulating, with one good climb to test A & B distance riders. The local countryside has some exposed sections which may be susceptible to wind. The roads are all in reasonable condition with minimal hazards. Route A & B distances Refer to Map 2 and Map 3 A distance riders will ride two laps. B distance riders will complete one lap. The A & B distance route is as follows: Assemble Lowe Street for start Turn right into South Street Turn left into Avon Terrace
Continue straight across intersection of Avon Terrace and Great Southern Highway Continue for approx. 20km Turn left into Beverley York Road (approx. 5km from Beverley) Continue for approx. 30km Take left slip (merging lane) at junction of Beverley Road and York-Quairading Road Turn left into Balladong Street Turn right into Suburban Street Turn left into South Street Continue past Lowe Street to repeat loop for 2nd Lap On return from second lap, Turn right off South Street into Lowe to cross finish line Route C distance Refer Map 4 C distance riders ride one lap of the shortened course. Please look for the signs and marshals at the turn off point. Refer to Map 5). The C distance route is as follows: Assemble Lowe Street for start Turn right into South Street Turn left into Avon Terrace Continue straight across intersection of Avon Terrace and Great Southern Highway Continue for approx. 10km Turn left into Gwambygine Road Continue for approx. 2km Turn left into Beverley York Road Take left slip (merging lane) at junction of Beverley Road and York-Quairading Road Turn left into Balladong Street Turn right into Suburban Street Turn left into Glebe which becomes South Street Turn right into Lowe to cross finish line Hazard Areas Avon Terrace is the main street of York and will have vehicular traffic Take caution when crossing Great Southern Highway, outbound from York, as this is a busy main road. As this is a rural/farming area, there may be a small number of trucks using some roads, please exercise caution. C distance riders please slow and use caution when left turning off South Western Highway into Gwambygine Road as turn approaches fairly quickly.
The junction at the top of Beverley Road and York-Quairading Road approx. 5kms before returning to York is a merging intersection. Please take extra care at this junction. The final zig-zag section when entering back into town requires extra concentration, especially as some riders will be continuing on for a second lap. The finishing turn from South Street into Lowe Street is also an area requiring extra care with some riders will be continuing on for a second lap. NOTE - It is the responsibility of all participants to obey the road rules, to follow instructions from event officials, to keep to the left hand side of the road and only ride two-abreast (single file when overtaking). Please always be courteous to other riders, teams and officials Please do not discard litter on the course, leave a clean footprint and carry your gel wrappers and rubbish with you to the finish line where bins are provided.
