Poms Congratulations to Varsity Poms for qualifying for the IHSA State Championship next weekend! The girl's jazz routine was among the top routines at Sectionals on Saturday. Best of luck to the Titans as they head to State Friday in Bloomington.

Girls Basketball The girls' basketball team split its weekend games at Evanston and Wheaton St. Francis. The Titans dropped their CSL match-up Friday night 53-36. Lizzy Shaw led the team in scoring with 14 points (4 3-pointers), followed by Kristin Ralston with 9, Makayla Stadler with 7, and Libbie Vanderveen, Liz LaPierre, and Challen Flaws with 2 points each. The girls fought off the fatigue of Friday night's game and defeated Wheaton St. Francis and Arkansas-Little Rock-bound Antwainette Walker 61-53. The Titans received great efforts from all of their players. Ralston led the team with 19, including a huge three pointer late in the game on a

great pass from Shaw. LaPierre scored 18, the recipient of many slick passes from Vanderveen, Stadler Shaw, and Flaws. Stadler's repeated drives to the paint resulted in 11 points and numerous assists. Shaw was everywhere, both offensively and defensively, dropping in eight points at key times and playing terrific help defense. Vanderveen's five points, five assists and stellar defense were pivotal to the victory. LaPierre, Stadler, and Flaws took turns defending Walker and forced her into tough shots on the offensive end of the floor. The victory moves the Titans to 15-6 on the year. The girls will take on Vernon Hills at home Wednesday night, travel to Niles North on Friday night, and visit Hersey for a Saturday afternoon matinee.

Boys Basketball The Titan Boys basketball team lost an overtime game 60-58 to Evanston at home on Friday, January 19. The Titans fought back from nine points down to tie the game 51-51 to send it into overtime. With the effort we played with, it was deserving of a better outcome, GBS coach Phil Ralston told the Glenview Lantern. We re playing hard and doing all the right things. We just have had trouble closing games out. Evanston got off to a fast start in overtime going up 56-51 on a Lance Jones layup and Blake Peters three. Stevon Boyd cut the deficit to 56-53 with a layup with 1:45 left but Jaheim Holden buried two free throws getting it back up to five with 18 seconds left. Dom Martinelli knocked down a pair at the line with 9.4 left but Peters sealed it with two foul shots of his own, making it 60-55. Mac Hubbard hit a three as the clock expired. Coach told us they re not as good on help defense, Dominique Martinelli (19 points) said. So he told me and Gavin to keep attacking the basket. They re a great offensive team so we knew we needed to score a lot. I was able to get open looks off of screens. I was trying to do what I could to help my team win. Evanston does a good job pressuring the perimeter, Ralston said. I told them if you have an advantage, you have to make them pay for it. We didn t get the ball inside in the first half. But we were much better doing that in the second half. The plays we ran weren t always the way it was scripted. But I was very happy with our shot selection and can t complain about what we did offensively. No matter what the score is, we keep battling, Martinelli said. We never get too high or too low. We know we can compete with good teams. That s the type of team we are. We had a very good fourth quarter. We re still learning but we re competing at an extremely high level, Ralston said I think we did about as good a job defending their top kid as anyone has. The effort is always there and there s going to be a breakthrough with this team.
