T evaluate the expertise f future landscape hrticulturists in layut, cnstructin and installatin f hardscape and sftscape elements. 1.2 Duratin f cntest. 12 hurs 1.3 Skills and Knwledge t be tested. The technical skills that will be tested are: reading, interpreting and executing cnstructin plans, accurately scaling measurements and setting dimensins n site, using vertical measurement techniques. Cmpetitrs may als cut, shape and set natural r manufactured materials such as stne, cncrete pavers and wd materials t build walls, screens, fences, patis, walkways and steps. Additinal skills t be tested include cutting, filling, and leveling aggregate material and planting media; installing trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals r sd, and ther elements. 2. CONTEST DESCRIPTION N mre than ne team f tw cmpetitrs will represent each prvincial r territrial entry. Each team must layut and build a landscape cnstructin prject as described by prvided cnstructin plans and details. The test prject will invlve preparing and installing varius materials, such as natural stne, precast cncrete, wd, planting media, mulch, plants and ther landscape elements. 2.1 List f dcuments prduced and timeline fr when cmpetitrs have access t the dcuments. 2.2 Elements t be included in the cnstructin plans: paving units steps Planting walls, retaining walls wd cnstructin water feature Within sectin 2.2 the planting and paving elements are cmpulsry cmpnents. Planting must ccupy at least 50% f the ttal cnstructin site surface. All f the 6 cmpnents listed abve will be chsen fr the cmpetitin prject. 3. EQUIPMENT, MATERIAL, CLOTHING 3.1 Equipment, material and wrkspace prvided by Skills/Cmpétences Canada All necessary material and equipment will be prvided, including tls as listed n the list t be prvided in February 2013: Wrk Space Installatin Each cmpetitin team will have a wrk space as can be accmmdated. Within each wrkspace each team must have clearly defined cnstructin area measuring 5 m x5 m. The cnstructin area must have clearly defined benchmark fr vertical measurements. Each team s cnstructin area will have been previusly filled and cmpacted with granular materials and/r planting media, as much as pssible within 100 mm f finished grade perimeter. Within the wrk space each team must have a wrk statin as pssible.. The wrk space must allw sufficient strage space t safely stre materials, tls and equipment. Sufficient space must be prvided fr the use and circulatin f equipment and machinery. Each wrk space must prvide reasnable accmmdatin fr prblems caused by inclement weather, if the event shuld be held utdrs. Each team must have equal, fair access t their site. Fr safety reasns, all handling f materials and cnstructin equipment (frk lifts, lader, excavatrs) t and frm the cmpetitin area shuld be the rganizatin s respnsibility. The flr must be even and allw any required transprt by cnstructin equipment. At all times during the cmpetitin, access t the cmpetitin area and individual cnstructin sites must be ensured fr transprt f required materials. If the cmpetitin is held inside, ensure gd ventilatin.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 6.1 Cnsecutive translatin If cnsecutive translatin is required n site, the Skills/Cmpétences Canada Prvincial/Territrial ffices must advise Skills/Cmpétences Canada Natinal Secretariat a minimum f 1 mnth prir t the cmpetitin r this service might nt be guaranteed. 6.2 Tie (N ties are allwed) A. The team with the highest ttal scre fr all 7 evaluatin cmpnents (A thrugh G) will be declared the winner. B. If there is a tie using A, then all the maximum scres (fr the teams lcked in a tie) will be cmpared, and the team with the highest number f maximum scres will be declared the winner. C. If A and B d nt break the tie, the team with the higher scre fr cmpnent A will be declared the winner.
