Activities involving discussion, research, a quiz and a design-based competition introduce young people to the exhilarating and rewarding world of snowsports, via the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games 2018. ABOUT PYONGHANG TO PIST Pyeonghang to Piste is a campaign that aims to raise awareness of snowsports and to help provide a chance for everyone to get involved in the sport. It will be running before, alongside and after the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games 2018 in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Snowsports are available to take part in all year around and across the UK. They include: Skiing, Alpine Ski Racing, Freestyle, Rollerskiing, Telemark Skiing, and Snowboarding. Before, during and following the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, there will be a variety of events run by various clubs and slopes to encourage people to give snowsports a go. ATIVITY OUTLINS PYONGHANG TO PIST QUIZ Learn about snowsports in the UK and the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games 2018, then test your students knowledge with our quiz. ATIVITY OUTLIN 1. Introduce your learners to the basics of Pyeonghang to Piste. Remember to keep some of the information to yourself until the end of the quiz! 2. As a group, elicit understanding about snowsports and the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games through discussion. Questions might include: a. What do you think Pyeonghang to Piste means? b. What country could Pyeongchang county be in? c. What is a piste and where would you find one? d. Name any snowsports that you have heard of. 3. Pupils can then use the internet, books and apps to take the Pyeonghang to Piste quiz. If possible, print out in colour on A3 paper. 4. Answers: a. ATIVITY OUTLIN 1. Hand out colour copies of the Design your own skis or snowboard activity sheet. You may wish to print it on A3 paper for greater attention to detail in the design. 2. xplain that they will design their own skis or snowboards (or both), thinking carefully of what colours, patterns, words or images would appear on them. The design should represent their belief in their ability to become a champion; harnessing speed, balance, confidence and agility. 3. For inspiration, you may like to research designs on the internet. 4. Designs entered into the competition will be judged by Graham Bell, former Winter Olympic Skier and current TV presenter for Ski Sunday on BB 2.
