FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS GENERAL WHAT IS REDS FANTASY CAMP? Reds Fantasy Camp, or Baseball Heaven, is a week-long baseball camp for men and women over 30 years of age. The experience typically takes place in late January at the Reds Player Development Complex in Goodyear, Arizona. Physical activity is required, as there is a multiple-game schedule, which concludes with a Championship Game. Former Reds players will co-manage every team and provide plenty of stories and laughs all week long! Teams will also play against the pros at Goodyear Ballpark, where the Reds (and Indians) play their home spring training games. The proceeds from camp will benefit the Reds Hall of Fame & Museum. WHO CAN ATTEND? Anyone age 30 and older who wants to have the greatest week of their life playing alongside some of their Cincinnati Reds heroes from the past and leave the cares of the world behind may attend. WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE? The average age of participants is about 50 years old; however, we see participants ranging anywhere from 30 to 80 years old. HOW COMPETITIVE IS THE PLAY? We find that there are many levels of talent attending the camp. Some participants have not played since high school, and others are active through softball/baseball and other physical activities. You won't be the worst and you won't be the best. No Camper has been asked to play for the Big League Club. WHAT KIND OF PHYSICAL SHAPE MUST I BE IN TO ATTEND? The program is constructed to be FUN! You do what you can. It's not boot camp; it's baseball camp. The Reds will have major and minor league trainers available to assist with any physical needs you may have. These guys are fabulous, and they are there for you all week long. 1
WHAT IS THE COST? The base cost for a first-time camper is $4,700. The base cost of Camp for a veteran camper (a participant who has attended at least one Reds Fantasy Camp within the last five years) is $4,200. Proceeds from Reds Fantasy Camp benefit the Reds Hall of Fame & Museum, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, which operates the camp. IS A PORTION OF FANTASY CAMP TAX-DEDUCTIBLE? A portion of each donation may be tax-deductible. Following the completion of camp, campers will be provided a letter from the Reds Hall of Fame & Museum that we encourage be sent to your tax advisor. Your tax deduction will be the excess of the camp price over the fair value of the goods and services you will receive. The exact amount of your deduction may vary depending on your tax bracket and other personal tax circumstances as each person s financial situation is unique. WHAT PAYMENT TYPES ARE ACCEPTED? We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express) but would greatly appreciate personal checks. WHEN DOES THE FULL PAYMENT NEED TO BE MADE? WHAT IF I HAVE TO CANCEL? In order to ensure that your spot in the 2017 Reds Fantasy Camp is reserved, each camper is required to make a $1,000 non-refundable deposit. The remaining balance is due and payable no later than October 3, 2016. In the event that the remaining balance is not paid by October 3, 2016, your spot will be forfeited. In the unfortunate event of your need to cancel before October 3, 2016, you will receive a full refund, minus the non-refundable deposit. Cancellations received from October 3, 2016, through December 16, 2016, will be subject to an $800 cancellation fee, plus the non-refundable deposit. There will be no refunds after December 16, 2016. No payments are transferable to future Reds Fantasy Camps. WHO ARE THE FORMER MAJOR LEAGUERS THAT WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE? See the Reds Greats Attending page for a list of former players that may attend. Their actual attendance is based on their availability and prior obligations. Please be assured that there will be PLENTY of former major leaguers present! WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING? All you need to bring is anything personal to you - your glove, rubber cleats (no metal spikes allowed), and batting gloves. If you have your own wood bat, you may bring that along, too. Bats and other baseball equipment helmets, baseballs, catching equipment - will be provided. If you do choose to travel with your own wood bat(s), we encourage you to contact your airline regarding proper travel instructions. A full detailed list of helpful tips of what to bring with you and what the Reds will provide will be distributed before you travel to Fantasy Camp. 2
HOW MANY PEOPLE ATTEND? Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. A typical camp can be 10 to 12 full teams. WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE IN GOODYEAR, ARIZONA? Average temperatures in Goodyear during late January/early February include highs in the mid-70s and lows in the 40s. Mornings and evenings tend to be chilly, so we suggest keeping that in mind when packing. WHAT DOES THE CAMP UNIFORM CONSIST OF? Rookie campers will receive a uniform that will consist of two authentic jersey tops one white and one red one pair of white pants, belt, socks, dugout attire (jacket or sweatshirt), and a fitted hat. HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY UNIFORM WILL FIT? When submitting your registration form to attend Reds Fantasy Camp, please be as accurate as possible when listing sizes. A few general tips: JERSEY Your sport coat size is a good indication of what your jersey size is. Examples of these sizes are 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, etc. You can be measured at any men s shop to determine your sport coat size. PANTS Waist and inseam are two important measurements for an accurate pant fit. OTHER GEAR Dugout attire is available in adult men sizes: M 2XL. FITTED HAT New Era hats range in size from 6 7/8 8. Your fitted hat size can be measured at any sporting goods store. DO I KEEP THE UNIFORM? Yes, you do! You will have your very own Cincinnati Reds uniform, with YOUR name and number on the back, plus all of the uniform components (hat, belt, undershirt, socks, etc.)...and other Reds dugout gear! WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE WHILE AT FANTASY CAMP? Participants will spend most of the day in their baseball uniform while on the field. Off the field, campers should dress casually khakis, shorts, polo shirts, etc. For the Awards Banquet at the end of the week, dress tends to be a bit more formal although sport coats and ties are optional. WHAT MEALS ARE PROVIDED? The Reds Development Complex is complete with a full kitchen and the Reds own catering staff. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to participants. Dinner is provided at the Welcome Reception, Championship Reception, and Awards Banquet. You will have a few free evenings where dinner will be on your own. Many take this time to have a team dinner or go with a friend on another team. There is a hotel shuttle that travels within a few miles of the hotel where a handful of restaurants are located. 3
WHAT CAMP MEMENTOS WILL I RECEIVE? You will receive many fun gifts and authentic gear from Reds Fantasy Camp. There will be a time and a place for autographs. Some of the items that may be included are a highlight DVD, personalized baseball cards, trophy/awards, signed baseball by all the coaches and MUCH more! TRAVEL and ACCOMMODATIONS WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE AND WHAT AIRPORT DO I FLY TO? Campers are responsible for their own travel to and from Goodyear, Arizona. Your arrival/travel date should be on Saturday, and your departure/travel date should be the following Saturday. The closest airport is Phoenix Sky Harbor International (PHX). SHOULD I RENT A CAR? Renting a car during the week of Reds Fantasy Camp is optional and should be arranged by the camper at their cost. The Reds will provide transportation (15-passenger vans) to and from the hotel and Reds Player Development Complex at designated times. Should you wish to have more freedom and flexibility with your travel throughout the week, a rental car is recommended. WHAT HOTEL IS THE FANTASY CAMP GROUP STAYING AT? Your Fantasy Camp package includes accommodations at a hotel near the complex. More details on the exact hotel location will be disclosed at a later date. Guests that are traveling with you are welcome to stay at the same hotel for an additional cost. Extra room reservations should be made on your own, letting the hotel know you are with the Fantasy Camp Group. Rooms for guests have limited availability are accommodated on a first-come, first-reserved basis. DO I SHARE A ROOM WITH SOMEONE AT THE HOTEL? Your purchase price includes double occupancy with another Fantasy Camp participant. However, if you prefer a room to yourself, there are a limited number of single hotel rooms available for an additional $500/week. Single rooms are based on availability. GAMES/SCHEDULE 4
HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED? Sunday is your first day at the Reds Player Development Complex. You will go through drills and instruction in the morning and then break for lunch. Following the morning instruction, the pros will conduct a closed-door draft to determine teams. Sunday afternoon will be your first game with your team that you will play with all week long. MAY I REQUEST TO BE ON THE SAME TEAM AS A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER? The Reds allow up to three (3) people to be drafted together on the same team. Additional details on how to request teammates will be provided at a later date. Feel free to note this request on your registration form as well. WHAT IS THE GAME SCHEDULE? Fantasy Camp will be made of an even number of teams. Two games are played each day Monday Thursday. The Championship Game will be played on Thursday afternoon. Friday is the Pro vs. Camper game. WHAT IS THE ITINEARY FOR THE WEEK? A detailed schedule of events will be provided at a later date. Stay tuned. WHAT DAY IS THE PRO vs. CAMPER GAME? Each team will play against the former pros in a 3-inning game that will take place on the Friday of Camp. 5
