Message from THE MAYOR What an exciting year for my first Winter Carnival as Mayor of The Town of Portugal Cove St. Philip s. This is set to be our biggest and best Carnival to date. With the start of every new year, comes the excitement of that year s Winter Carnival. Our Recreation and Community Services staff work tirelessly, planning this great event. I encourage everyone to come out and enjoy these events. Whether playing cards or bingo is your interest, or snowshoeing and dancing, and everything in between. The main thing is you get out and enjoy the Carnival and its great events! As our Town grows and diversifies, we want to keep making this an attractive place to live, offering services and events that allows us to come together as a community and celebrate the place we live and call home. Show your Town pride with me this year and come out to these fantastic events that embody our Town s values and sense of community. We can t wait to see you! I wish you the best in 2018 and a fabulous Winter Carnival! MAYOR, CAROL McDONALD pcsp.ca 3

Message from COUNCILLOR, MADONNA STEWART-SHARPE Recreation & Community Services Chair It has been almost five months since I have had the honor to be named the Chair of the Recreation & Community Services Committee. Over this time I have had the great fortune to collaborate with community groups, residents and a dedicated staff. As I have already witnessed from the wellattended and organized Fall and Christmas events, our Winter Carnival is sure to be a great success as well. The annual PCSP Winter Carnival is a weeklong celebration of winter which encourages everyone to get outside, and promotes community spirit. This year s lineup of events provides residents and visitors unique experiences in various winter related areas. From dancing and art to sporting events; this is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the winter and your community both indoors and outside. Take in all that the Winter Carnival has to offer! You won t want to miss the Community Breakfast prepared for and served by your very own Council; the Family Fun Day at Voisey s Brook Park; card games, a Carnival craft fair; an adult dance featuring Bic and the Ballpoints, and so much more! Congratulations and thank you to the volunteers, staff and sponsors of this incredible week. With your help and dedication this year s carnival will be one for the books! Living a healthy lifestyle is very important to me and I encourage all residents of Portugal Cove St. Philip s to get outside; not only during this Carnival Week, but as much as you can to embrace the beauty and magic of our longest season in this beautiful Town we call home.
