The Mountain Mushroom Festival is a celebration of the Appalachian culture: the morel mushroom, KY agate (state rock of Kentucky), arts and crafts, Daniel Boone National Forest, Kentucky River, and mountains. The festival s mission is to share the cultural heritage and traditions of our community and support area groups (mushroom hunters, agate hunters, local crafters, artisans, and civic organizations) and businesses to foster community pride and stimulate economic development. A local volunteer committee partners with the community to present a variety of activities and provide educational opportunities. The 2015 festival will take place the weekend of April 25 th -April 26 th with many activities and entertainment available for everyone. Speedy Spore River Run Race Day Schedule: 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Race Day Registration & Check in will be located near the parking lot of Rader s River Grill under the Irvine Bridge. 11:30 a.m. There will be a mandatory Pre-race Safety Meeting presented by Kentucky Fish & Wildlife. 12:30 p.m. The 6 mile race starts under the Irvine Bridge and finishes at the Kentucky River Park & Recreation Center. (A shuttle van will be available to transport paddlers back to the starting point to get their vehicles after the race, if needed.) 1:00 p.m. The 12 mile race starts under the Irvine Bridge, will turn around at the Kentucky River Park & Recreation Center and then finish under the Irvine Bridge. Awards will be given out following the races under the Irvine Bridge. Entry Fee: Entry fee will be $30 per person. Please make the check payable to: Mountain Mushroom Festival and return to Irvine City Hall, 101 Chestnut Street, Irvine, KY 40336. Entry fee will include the price of insurance, a goody bag with a whistle, snacks, and a decal sticker with an original Speedy Spore River Run Logo design. Winners of each race category will also receive a hand-carved wooden Morel Mushroom trophy a truly unique piece of art! Race Rules: - All participants must be 18 years or older unless accompanied by an adult. - Paddlers must have registration form, waiver & insurance form completed and $30 fee paid prior to pre-race safety briefing on Sunday at 11:30am. - All paddlers must be present at safety meeting or prior payment will be forfeited and you will not be able to participate in the race. - All paddlers must wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (life jacket) in the boat (minimum for one each person). - All paddlers must be at race starting point and ready to start race at scheduled time and will finish at noted check point. - No boat shall use anything other than paddles during race. No motors allowed. - All racers must demonstrate good sportsmanship and good boating etiquette. - Any boat may stop at any point on the river in lieu to their final destination. Map of the Speedy Spore River Run: Directions to Irvine: - From I-75: Take Exit 90-A (Richmond/Irvine). Follow US 421 (Martin Bypass) 4 miles to KY 52 east (traffic light 13). Turn left and proceed 17 miles to the City of Irvine. - From Mountain Parkway: Take Exit 16 (Clay City/Winchester). Turn onto KY 82 and follow until it intersects with US 89. Turn left. Remain on US 89 approximately 7 miles to the City of Irvine. Directions to boat ramp under the Irvine Bridge: - Turn at the US 52/US 89 intersection (by Irvine Shell Mart) onto US 89. Make an immediate left to go under the bridge. (Look for the Rader s River Grill sign) Directions to Kentucky River Park & Recreation Center: - From Irvine, go north on Winchester Road (US 89) approximately 4.25 miles to Dry Ridge Road which is on the left about 1.5 miles north of the Estill County High School. Travel.4 mile to Wiseman Crossing Road, turn left on paved road and continue on paved road.8 mile. Cross the CSX Railroad tracks to enter the Kentucky River Park & Recreation Center.
