PARENT MEETING MIDWAY MIDDLE SCHOOL 2016

Letter to Parents January 2016 Dear Parents, I am very excited that your child is interested in trying out for the 2016 Midway Middle School Golf Team. As the coach, my goal for the team is to play competitive golf and to see these young athletes excel both in their athleticism and in their character. I encourage you to support your child by providing many opportunities to practice during weekends and free time. Your participation and support is appreciated and does not go unnoticed. The golf team is not a golf class. Players should possess basic fundamentals, skills, and knowledge of golf (good technique, experienced strokes/swing, adequate pace of play, know how to keep score, knowledge of basic rules, etc.). Players need to be willing to learn basic rules and enforce them during competition. Please use the Midway Middle School golf website to check information about current news, practice schedule updates, directions to tournaments, results, and more. The golf team website link can be found on the Middle School Athletic page. Be sure to sign the permission sheet to grant permission for your child s name and picture to be posted on the website and other social media publications. Please feel free to contact me either by email or phone if you ever have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your support! Sincerely, Coach Dikran Bullajian Email: dikran.bullajian@midwayisd.org School Phone: 254-761-5680 Midway Middle School Golf Website (Scan with smart phone or tablet)

Tournament Information Tournament Participation Information - All players will play in at least one tournament (Midway Tournament) if they are academically eligible and do not have any discipline issues at the time of the tournament. Due to most tournament limits, the current top five (5) players will be on the travel team and will travel to tournaments. In order to travel to out of town tournaments, players must continually improve. Qualifying to travel will be based on multiple criteria (tryout performance, attending practices, previous tournament scores, diligence/ontask performance at practice, skill improvement, qualifying scores, overall attitude/behavior, etc.). Players who are not on the travel team may be asked to play in tournaments as a substitute player, and/or as part of a second team and/or as a medalist (individual player) based on tournament entry limits, skill level improvement, effort, practice attendance, attitude/behavior, etc. Tournament Format Information - Tournaments are nine holes and players must walk the course and carry their own bags (or use their own push cart). Players must also keep their own score and all of their opponents scores. Players must also have knowledge of basic golf rules and be able and willing to enforce them during play. Tournament Scoring: Players are grouped with players from other schools; not with other Midway players. Team scores are based on the best four scores from a team. The highest (worst) score from the team is dropped and the remaining four scores make-up the team score. The 5 th player s score may be used if a tie breaker is necessary. In addition to team play, all players play as individual medalists for personal awards. Players who are playing as part of the team, will also be playing for a team award. Players participating as a Medalist do not account for the team score and will not receive team medals, if won. Tournament Dress Attire: Players will need to wear the required team tournament golf polo shirt, khaki pants/shorts, skirts (for girls only), and golf or athletic shoes. Travel to Tournaments: The team will travel together by bus to all out of town tournaments. Only students who are playing in the tournament will travel with the team. All other students are expected to attend class. Players who miss classes due to playing in a tournament are responsible for making up any missed work. NOTE: Athletes who are playing in the Midway Tournament will need to provide their own transportation from school to the tournament and after the tournament. Important District Policy: Parents, if you are at a tournament and want to take your child home with you, make sure you sign the sign-out sheet from Coach Bullajian prior to leaving the tournament. If you are not at the tournament to sign your child out, the student must ride home on the bus and cannot ride home with someone else. Only parents of students may sign out their own child. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Bullajian.
