MTBA REGIONAL TOURNAMENTS AND HOW WE ARE DOING Thanks to all of our club members who are participating and having fun at these tournaments! We think we are back in lead position and look forward to great attendance for the August 27 th 900 Round at BMB. Your participation will help us to win the 2017 MTBA Club of the Year. Each person who is a registered archer with our club and MTBA will earn at least 1 point for their signed scorecard. Working members track your hours in the log book Working members are required to contribute 16 hours of service per year. Locate the red notebook hanging on the back wall of the indoor range. Log your hours on the page that matches your last initial. Thank you! NEW 450 SCORE BOARD 300, Indoor 450, Outdoor Field/Hunter and club outdoor 3D Shoots will be kept for a November 15 th tally of top scores for each of the 4 shoot categories, bow style and age category. First place in each will receive a nice award at the December 3 Holiday Awards dinner. State and Regional Indoor Shoots in each category held at our range will also count toward club championship. Special fees or scorecards? Not this year! Pay the usual shooting fees and turn in the usual club scorecards. What if my score is eligible for posting on a scoreboard? Member scores with signed cards are always eligible to make it onto one of 3 indoor scoreboards: Indoor 300, Indoor 450 (NEW) or Outdoor Field/Hunter board. Note from Indoor Range Captain: Turn in your signed scorecards for all club shoots whether it is a board score or not. Those scores will still count toward the 2017 Club Championship awards in December! 2017 Club Championship Competition Purpose: A fun way for club members to participate in our monthly and special event shoots and to improve shooting scores for self-satisfaction or for other competitions outside of the club. How does one enter? Be a current club member in good standing, attend any or all of the club shoots during the calendar year, and be sure to turn in signed scorecards. All ages and bow styles are eligible. What happens to my scores? All scorecards for the Indoor Beginning Archery Group Class We hold Beginning Archery Public Session classes the third Saturday of each month from 1:00-3:00 PM. Cost: $20 per archer. Enrollment is limited to 10 archers. You must register in advance. See http://www.santacruzarchers.com/wordpress/santacruz-archers-2/learning-archery/ Class starts at 1:00 p.m.; be at the range by 12:45 p.m. Curriculum: Safety, archery form, aiming, and practice. Taught by nationally certified instructors or coaches. Classes are mixed-age with children (9 or over) and adults. Children under 13 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Equipment use is included, or archers can bring their own. Community Shoot night continues! Every 4 th Friday! earlier and anyone is welcome to come and shoot at the indoor range. This is a good time for practice or we may actually conduct a 450 Round that night, depending on who is there and what is decided. Whoever gets there first for any Friday shoot leaves the gate open. Make sure to tell everyone about using the front gate to exit and to lock all the doors and the gate at the end. Just ask! June Meeting Minutes Andy Sterbenz 6/6/17 President Andy Sterbenz a. Thanks to the work parties for all you ve done. b. Thanks for a successful 3d In the Redwoods shoot c. The Regional 3D results are not posted, but congrats to all who shot. We were in second place after the April (field) shoot. a. Reminder: no meeting in July because it falls on Independence Day. b. We have a list of NFAA rule amendments to consider (see new business). d. 1st VP Jerry Granger (Absent) e. 2nd VP Marty Vaden 7 archers attended the May Stump Shoot. Marty broke his leg and will need someone to run the June stump shoot. [Andy filled in] f. Secretary Steve Andrews. (Absent) g. Treasurer Susan Bertram. We are solvent. Note that some of the shoot expenses hit the books this month, but the revenue hits next month. h. Outdoor Range Captain Tyson Sheppard (absent, by e-mail) 1. The only thing I have to report is, thanks for everyone's help with the shoot, and preparing for the shoot. It's all a big help! 2. Added by Andy: The next work party can fix the railing on 28, and bring in more wood. [Done in July!] i. Indoor Range Captain Robyn McCool & Mark Hersey. 1. Scoreboard update: The boards are current as of a week ago. 2. The snack cabinet is full. j. Publicity Chair & Newsletter Editor Gabrielle Garrett (by e-mail). I left a few copies of the June/July SCA newsletter on the indoor range table for newbies and copies of the Aloha Shoot flier for 7/23 are on the way. Some pics and news were posted to our Facebook page yesterday. We plan to use the 3D scorecards from this shoot toward club championship. I need to know if it is time to reorder 1st place medallions for next year. Novelty Chair Belle Leporini (by e-mail, no report) Old Business: A. 3D In the Redwoods Shoot was a success. - Fifty or so archers - Thanks to the weed whacking crews, the range raking crews, the set-up and take down crews and the tree whacking crew. - Thanks again to the Sturm BBQ Team! - Visitors from other clubs had lots of compliments. - Having a single aiming stake was discussed. Compound shooters missed having the longer shots. B. Me-One Foundation Archery Class - Saturday, July 8, Scotts Valley - Instructors and assistants welcome (more is better) - Meet-up time and place: Mission Springs dining hall, time TBD C. Aloha Shoot, Sunday, July 23-14 targets, marked distance - Set-up that morning at 7:30, Shoot starts 10 am - Flyers are on the bulletin board - Plenty of leis left from last year. D. Bad Boys of Branciforte - Sunday, October 1 - Discussed the range marker faces. The bad boy (bandit) is a keeper. The skull will be replaced with something else. E. Firewood storage. It s on pallets, but needs a roof or a tent before October. New Business: A. Ian & Erica want to reserve the indoor range for a practice session. No objections, but post the times to the calendar so other instructors are aware. B. NFAA sent 39 proposed revisions to the bylaws and shoot rules. Some require discussion; some remove or change shooting classes; some are text clean-up. A subcommittee of Andy, Erick, Henry, Marty and Mark stayed after the meeting and reviewed the proposals. Responses were sent to the region. C. There is a bee hive in the back wall of the records room. The bees have a private entrance (knot hole in the siding under the eave). Erick has a co-worker who keeps bees and will ask him to relocate the hive. D. Marty proposed purchasing epoxy-coated distance markers for the field range. He met a supplier at a recent shoot. These would be anchored to the current concrete blocks. Proposed a budget of $900 for the full set (field, hunter and animal). Second by Mark. Passed unanimously. JOINING THE REGIONAL, STATE AND NATIONAL CLUBS Mission Trail Bowhunters Association (CA 56) is our regional club. You are automatically a member if a member of CBH/SAA and one of the 6 local clubs in our region. If you are a member of SCA but not a member of CBH/SAA there is a $10 member fee to join. To shoot in any of the MTBA regional tournaments and have your score count for club points and individual awards, plan to join. CBH/SAA offers several types of memberships: Individual - $40, Family - $50, Youth unattached - $20.
