After things finish up today at Kauffman, the teams will meet up again in Detroit five days from now for their second of six series in 2015. Central dropped to a half game over the Tigers, while their home record dipped to 9-3, which is still tops in the Junior Circuit. THEY DON T GO QUIETLY--Predictably, with the Royals plating only one run last night, it would come with two outs as Lorenzo Cain hit a solo homer with the club down to its final out in the ninth...this season KC has scored more two-out runs than any other team in baseball (55), while they also lead the big leagues in hits (88), RBI (53), overall batting average (.313) as well as batting average with two outs and runners in scoring position (.319)...KC has scored 44% of its runs (55 of 124) with two down...several Royals rank among the league leaders with two outs individually as well with Lorenzo Cain topping the A.L. with a.481 batting average with two outs (13-for-27) and also has the top on-base percentage (.548)...Cain is tied with teammates Kendrys Morales and Salvador Perez, each collecting an A.L.-best 13 hits with two down...morales leads the Majors in two-out runs scored (12) and Perez is tied for second in two-out RBI (12). CAIN TO DROP APPEAL--Outfielder Lorenzo Cain announced this morning that he will drop the appeal on his two-game suspension, which was handed down by Major League Baseball for his role in the April 23 altercation at U.S. Cellular Field...Cain will serve his penalty today and Tuesday vs. Cleveland and be eligible to rejoin the club for Wednesday night s tilt with the Tribe...KC pitcher Edinson Volquez returned from his five-game suspension last night, while fellow hurler Yordano Ventura is in the third day of his seven-game ban. LOOKING FOR SERIES WIN NO. 6--Kansas City will be playing for its sixth series victory of the season today, looking to take three-of-four from division rival Detroit...KC has won all three of its home series thus far, sweeping Chicago (April 6-9) and taking two-of-three from Oakland (April 17-19) and Minnesota (April 20-22), while the club swept the Angels (April 10-12) and took two from the Tribe (April 27-29) on the road. CLEVELAND ON DECK--After tomorrow s off day, KC will resume it s 3-week tour of the A.L. Central as the Indians visit Kauffman Stadium for the first time in 2015...the Royals took two of three from the Tribe at Progressive Field last week and are 11-7 within their division thus far...kc went 9-10 vs. Cleveland last season, but had a 5-4 mark against them here...the Royals are 164-148 all-time vs. the Tribe in Kansas City, including 16-12 at The K since the start of the 2012 campaign. CAN T ESCAPE THE SIXTH--Jeremy pitched well for 5.0 innings last Tuesday in Cleveland, but could not get out of the sixth and wasn t around when the Royals rallied for an 11-5 victory...the veteran righty was charged with four runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in his 5.0 innings, plus two hitters...he gave up a two-run single to Michael Bourn in the second inning, then after holding the Tribe to one hit over the next three frames, he allowed a leadoff single to Michael Brantley and walked Carlos Santana to find himself out of the game...brandon Moss hit a three-run homer off relief pitcher Brandon Finnegan, plating both of Guthrie s baserunners...fortunately for Jeremy, K.C. s offense scored six runs in the seventh to take him off the hook for a loss. LIFE IS ROYAL--Guthrie s career was rejuvenated on July 20, 2012, when he was traded to Kansas City in deal that sent Jonathan Sanchez to Colorado... Jeremy had a career record of 50-74 at the time of the deal, including a 3-9 mark with the Rockies during the first half of that campaign...since coming over to KC, Guthrie has gone 34-27, with his.557 winning percentage ranking ninth all-time among Royals hurlers with at least 500.0 innings. Guthrie also traveled to Panama in January with U.S. softball Gold Medalist Jessica Mendoza through the U.S. State Department s Diamond Diplomacy program. VS.
