To swim properly, you need powerful pumps and unrestricted swim jets to create the necessary water flow. Precise swim jet positioning is also necessary so the water flow targets the body for maximum resistance. Most swim spas use only round swim jets which are great for targetted resistance but have a less smooth water flow.
