France - Alsace Biking 2018 Individual Self-Guided Tour 8 days / 7 nights An easy route to appreciate all the charms of Alsace. Discover traditional or picturesque Alsace, the one of the postcards but also the unusual and little-known one. This tour will take you to the meeting of Roman, Gothic or Baroque architecture, artistic treasures of museums, Vosges forests, peat bogs of Ried and vineyard glistening under the sun. Itinerary Day to Day Day 1: Arrival Strasbourg Arrival in Strasbourg, settling into the hotel and free time to explore the town. Day 2: Strasbourg Area Selestat 25 or 35 or 55 km You will leave Strasbourg along the Rhône-Rhine canal which will lead you along its very pretty cycle track into the heart of the Ried. Day 3: Area Selestat Colmar 68 or 58 or 38 km You will travel through the landscapes and villages of the Alsatian Ried which is rich in aquatic flora and fauna. Arrival in Colmar, the capital of the wine of Alsace and the town of art, by the cycle track of the channel of Colmar. Day 4: Colmar Area Mulhouse 66 km From Colmar head east to Neuf Brisach, then continue towards the south to reach the gentle village of Ottmarsheim with its 12th century nice church. Next you enter the Hardt s forest then you go along the Huningue s canal to reach Mulhouse. After enjoying the historic town center of Mulhouse, you have numerous museums to visit. Day 5: Area Mulhouse Guebwiller 35 km You will leave the banks of the Rhine and the villages of the Sundgau and ride to Ungersheim, until the Ecomusee d Alsace. You arrive in Guebwiller, nestling at the foothills of the Vosges. Day 6: Guebwiller - Area Riquewihr 48 km At the foot of the Vosges nestle the winemaking villages responsible for the reputation of the Alsatian Grand Crus: Eguisheim, Turkheim, Kaysersberg and Riquewihr. Day 7: Area Riquewihr Area Obernai 49 km Along the wine road you will discover the villages of Barr, Andlau and its abbey, Bergheim, Ribeauvillé, Hunawihr. Day 8: Area Obernai Strasbourg 37 km Country roads and cycle tracks will take you from Rosheim and to Avolsheim. From there, along the cycle track on the banks of the Bruche canal, you will reach the capital of Europe: Strasbourg. End or prolongation of your stay.
Route Technical Characteristics Tour Profile: Moderate level of difficulty. You will ride mainly on cycle paths, on minor agricultural tarred roads or on little secondary roads without much traffic. Days 6 and 7 are a little bit hilly. The motor is attached to the bottom bracket. The energy supply for the electro engine is retained via a detachable battery, with a possible range of 120 to 180 kilometers. The electro bike is a Pedelec which is an electro bike which assists with electric support only when pedaling. Designed and based on KTM-bikes and modified accordingly for our purposes. The bikes are easy to handle as you have an improved weight distribution and a lower center of gravity. Total weight amounts to approx. 23 kg.
