When/where does the event take place? The 2011 Pebble Beach-NCGA Invitational will take place June 30 July 3 (Thurs., Fri., Sat., Sun.) in Pebble Beach, CA. The registration and the welcome reception will be held on the June 30 at Poppy Hills Golf Course. The tournament will begin on July 1 with each team playing one round at Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Course and Poppy Hills Golf Course. In what format will the event be played? The tournament is a 54-hole, four-ball net stroke play event. In four-ball stroke play, two competitors play as partners, each playing their own ball. The lower of the partners net scores is the score for the hole. Allowance: Men will receive 90% of course handicap. will receive 95% of course handicap. USGA rules are in effect at all times during play. How do I sign up for the 2011 Pebble Beach-NCGA Invitational? Register by calling Brittany Cooley at PB Tournament Office at (831) 625-8575. PB offices are open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You may also email Brittany with any questions or reservations at cooleyb@pebblebeach.com. What is the cost for the event? All players will be staying at the Inn at Spanish Bay for the 2011 event. The cost starts at $2,200 per player for double occupancy and $3,100 per player for single occupancy. This event is a stay and play package deal offered on a first-come, first-served basis and is considered full at 100 players (50 teams). The registration fee includes three rounds of golf (one on each of the host courses) cart and range balls, three nights accommodation (Thurs., Fri., Sat.) at the Inn at Spanish Bay, a player prize pack, daily prizes and awards, a welcome reception and pairings party on Thursday night and two player parties including a dinner and awards luncheon. I wish to play in the event but stay at another hotel; can I pay for the golf portion only? The Pebble Beach-NCGA Invitational is a 'stay and play' package deal. This is the only event of its kind the NCGA conducts all year. The pricing, whether you stay at the resort or not, is the same and there is not a 'golf only' rate or option. Is there a cancellation policy? Yes. By registering for the 2011 Pebble Beach-NCGA Invitational, you are agreeing to the following cancellation policy: Entry fee is fully refundable if changes or cancellations are received by May 13, 2011. After May 13, 2011, no refunds will be offered. Sorry, No Exceptions.
Do I have to be a member of the NCGA to play in the event? No. However, one member of the team MUST be a member of the NCGA in order to compete at the 2011 Pebble Beach-NCGA Invitational. All players must have a certified handicap index from the NCGA or another state or regional golf association. Where will the event registration be held? On Thursday, June 30 from 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. NCGA Staff will be on hand for registration followed by a welcome reception at Poppy Hills Golf Course from 5:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Players MUST check in at this time as information will be available regarding such items as rules, pairings, tee times, side games and such. No dinner will be provided that evening but beverages and complimentary hors d oeuvres will be available for players and their guests. Can I have a caddy? Yes. Caddies are NOT included in the price of the event, but you may contact the Pebble Beach Caddy Services Offices at 831-622-6162. You may also arrange a caddy at registration on June 30. Can I have a guest and/or an extra cart? Guests are welcome on the course, but must remain out of play and CANNOT offer advice or suggestions for competitors. Any guest requesting an extra cart should contact the course ahead of time to find out the cost and/or availability. Which courses will we play on which days? All players will be playing one round at each of the 3 courses (Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills). Course assignments will be determined after event registration has closed. What time do I tee off? The first two rounds will be morning tee times and those times will be announced prior to the event. The third round at Poppy Hills (on Sunday, July 3) will be a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. Where can I find pairings? Pairings will be available at the registration reception. How are the flights determined? Assuming a full field (100 golfers), there will be two/three flights for the event and each flight will have a maximum of 20 teams per flight, distributed by team handicaps. Entries will be compiled and flight lines will be determined after registration closes. We will add each teammate s handicap together to come up with a single team handicap in order to determine the final flight breakdowns.
I'm a 2 handicap; can I play with a 20 handicap? Any player can be paired up with and compete with any other player. The only stipulation is that, teams with players that have a course handicap difference of 8 or more will be subject to an additional 10% reduction to be applied to the course handicap of each member of the team. Which tees do I play from? Pebble Beach Golf Links Gold (~6350 yards) 72.3/137 White (~6116 yards) 71.2/134 Red (~5198 yards) 71.8/129 Spyglass Hill Golf Course Gold (~6534 yards) 73.2/144 White (~6123 yards) 71.4/137 Red (~5379 yards) 72.9/133 Poppy Hills Golf Course Blue (~6561 yards) 73.0/141 White (~6175 yards) 71.0/134 Gold (~5421 yards) 71.9/131 Can I register to play even though I don't have a partner? Yes. We are accepting single registrations and will pair them up using a blind draw after registration has closed. If you are a single you MUST be a NCGA member. Are there any side games? Yes. There are will be a skins game for each course. Skins will be awarded within each flight. The optional skins game is $5 per player per day. Winner will be lowest net score per hole (broken into flights). Skins will be paid based on the pot total divided by number of skins won per flight per course.
There will also be designated contest holes for long drive and closest to the hole. Furthermore, each course will have a hole designated to give away a Lexus if someone makes a Hole-in-One. What are the prizes for the flight winners? Prizes for the top finishers will be based on the number of players in each flight and will consist of plaques, merchandise gift certificates and products. No single prize value will exceed $750 in order to comply with the USGA Rules of Amateur Status. Will there be a senior designation for the event? Senior designations apply to all players 55 years of age or older as of the start of play on Friday, July 1. Will there be a super senior designation for the event? No. What happens in the event of a tie? All ties will be broken based on the USGA method for matching scorecards (back 9, last 6, last 3, etc.). Where are the parties taking place? The Thursday night welcome reception will be at Porter s Grill & Bar located at Poppy Hills GC from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on June 30. There will be beverages and complimentary hors d oeuvres for all players and their guests. The Saturday night dinner will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on July 1 at The Inn at Spanish Bay. There will be a dinner open to all competitors with two drink tickets per guest. Guests are welcome for a nominal guest charge of $60, to be submitted with entry fee. The Sunday breakfast and lunch buffets will be hosted at Porter s Grill & Bar at Poppy Hills GC on July 3. Breakfast will be served beginning at 7:00 a.m. Lunch will be served immediately following the completion of the final round (approx. 12:30 p.m.). Guests are welcome for a nominal guest charge of $35, to be submitted with entry fee. When/where is the awards presentation taking place? All awards will be presented inside Porter s Grill & Bar immediately following the completion of the final round on Sunday, July 3. All players must take their prizes/trophies with them as they depart. No prizes will be mailed. What happens in the event of weather delays? The NCGA Staff will do everything possible to get all holes completed for the event should there be any delays due to inclement weather. Should the course be deemed unplayable or lightning is imminent; the event may be reduced to a shortened number of holes. We will do everything possible to get all 54 holes completed but all players should be sure to check with the staff for
any possible changes to tee times and/or events. PLEASE be prepared for any and all weather conditions. How does the NCGA ensure proper flights? The NCGA will verify every competitor s index. Note that the tournament organizers will establish an Exceptional Scoring Committee (ESC) that reserves the right to re-flight and/or disqualify any group that the committee determines has intentionally manipulated the concept of fair-play and clean-competition. What are the transportation/parking details for the event? Each player is responsible for his/her own transportation to and from the resort and golf courses during the event. Parking is available at all venues. Can I/my team use a rangefinder during play? The tournament committee has made a decision to ALLOW teams to use a rangefinder during the event. In accordance with the USGA Rules of Golf rangefinders must measure distance ONLY. The use of cell phones with range tracking devises will be deemed illegal for this event. Is there a final deadline to sign-up? All players must be entered NO later than June 10, 2011 How do I book extra room nights and what is the cost?
