THE CLUB AT 12 OAKS MEMBER NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2016 Greetings from the GM s Office - Bill Fitzpatrick, General Manager As I write this, the weather is a perfect 65 degrees and sunny. Not what we expect for the beginning of December! For me, this a great time of the year with college football still going, the college basketball season kicking off, and great golfing weather. This becomes a time for family, friends, travel, and celebrations as the holidays approach. I hope everyone enjoyed the beginning of the holiday season with Thanksgiving last week. I am personally thankful for the many members who have been very kind to me and my wife, Pat, as we transitioned to Holly Springs. We feel very comfortable here and enjoy living in North Carolina. I am proud to say a lot has been accomplished this year. On the golf course the bunkers were renovated, the greens were converted from Bentgrass to Champion Bermuda and many smaller projects have been completed as well. The club and community have another amenity complex with a great swimming pool, a dog park and new playground. The Clubhouse was completed in 2016 and it now provides a great place to dine and enjoy the camaraderie whether it is with golf or a social event. The tennis courts have been resurfaced, fences modified and gates repaired, new windscreens and new halogen lamps have been installed providing improved playing conditions. More projects are scheduled to improve or maintain this wonderful club. It is our commitment as management to place members first while striving to meet their private club needs. I know you will see us improve on all fronts in the coming months. We experienced some personnel changes this year, but feel strongly that the new people joining us will serve the membership well and improve upon service delivery. The year 2017 will be our first with all club amenities completed and fully operational. It is exciting to see the continued growth of the community and the club. I see 2017 as a great year for us. I hope you will use the club, participate in the various activities, enjoy making new friends, and create some lifetime memories. I wish you the happiest of holidays! 2008 Green Oaks Parkway Holly Springs, NC 27540 919-285-3680 www.12oaksgolfclub.com

Golf - Mike Mueller, Head Golf Pro As we head into the final month of 2016, I want to thank every member for their support this year. We had amazing growth in our Men s Golf Association, Ladies Golf Association, Junior Golf and our tournament program, and all with the course closed for 10 weeks. We appreciate your patience during that time and hope that you are already looking forward to the 2017 golf season at 12 Oaks. Speaking of 2017, the Professional Staff and the Golf Committee are working on the Golf Calendar for next year. As soon as it is finalized, we will send it out to all members so you can mark your calendars for your favorite events. Finally, some reminders for the end of the year: 1. Our end of the year Golf Shop Open House will be Friday, December 9th at 6:00pm. Join us for complimentary wine, holiday cookies, and gift wrapping with all purchases. 2. We will be open on Christmas Eve (December 24) for a 10:00am Shotgun (weather permitting). The range will close at 1:00pm and all other golf facilities will close at 2:30pm. All Club facilities will be closed on Christmas Day (December 25). 3. If you have golf shop credit won in an event this year, it will expire on December 31st. 4. Enrollment forms for 2017 Annual Cart Plans will be available in early December. If you would like to sign up for the annual cart plan in 2017, you will need to complete the form and return it to the Golf Shop by December 31st, 2016. Golf Maintenance - James Reese, GCSAA Class A Golf Course Superintendent With the conversion to Bermuda greens, we will now cover the greens to protect them from freezing temperatures. The protocol for covering the greens will be very similar to the protocol used for closing the course due to freezing temperatures during previous seasons, but we will need to start covering the greens during the afternoon. When the forecast predicts overnight lows below 28 F with daytime highs below 40 F for two days in a row, we will need to cover the greens. We will stop tee times at 11:30am the day before the freeze and follow the last group. The greens will remain covered until we have nighttime lows above 30 F and daytime highs above 42 F. Once we are able to remove the covers, please note that it will take us 4-5 hours to remove the covers before we can prepare the course for play. We have finished edging bunkers and checking sand depths. We will continue cleanup in the cleared areas where the Bobcat does not reach. Now that the Bermuda grass has gone into dormancy, we will scout for weeds in the turf and spray any that were spread from overseeding tees. We have a planned pre-emergent application in late January. Many people have asked about the clearing of the woods behind 11 Green. This is for a sewer easement that will be connected to the existing line. Please practice proper golf etiquette by repairing ball marks, raking bunkers and filling divots.
THE MONTHLY APPROACH DECEMBER 2016 Celebration of Golf Dinner November 4, 2016
Events & Activities - Rachel Roos, Lifestyle & Communications Director We hosted our first ever 12 Oaks Murder Mystery Dinner, and it was a great evening. Members enjoyed the opportunity to dress up and play crazy characters while mixing and mingling with new people. This is definitely an event we look forward to repeating. We want to thank all who attended for making it such a memorable event. As we move into December, we have a busy month full of holiday celebrations. Our annual Tea or Tini Ladies White Elephant Party is always a fun night out. Spend an evening in the company of the ladies of the club, enjoy a holiday martini and treats, and exchange gifts during a fun-filled white elephant game. Limited space remains for this popular event; please contact Rachel to reserve your spot. Breakfast with Santa filled up much more quickly than we ever imagined. In order to seat as many members as possible, we have asked Santa to stay an hour longer which opened an additional seating. So that the event will run smoothly, we kindly ask members to arrive promptly at their designated time. For those who wish to meet Santa without attending breakfast, we will publish a list of times we expect the lines to be shortest approximately one week before the event. This year s New Year s Eve Gala will be our greatest New Year s Eve celebration to date! Join friends and neighbors to bid farewell to the old and ring in the new at the first adult-only semi-formal event in the Clubhouse. The evening will feature live music, heavy hors d oeuvres, a late-night dessert bar, and a midnight champagne toast. We wish you and your loved ones a happy holiday season and look forward to seeing you around the club! Reservations Recently, we have had a number of people inquire as to why we have changed our reservation procedures and begun announcing when reservations will open. At 12 Oaks, we strive to allow all our members an equal opportunity to RSVP for popular events. While the 12 Oaks App and push notification system has been a great asset in helping us reach all our members simultaneously, we understand that some people do not always look at their phones immediately and some do not have the app installed on their phones. By providing the date in advance, we allow greater opportunity for everyone to RSVP. Because the time has been published in the newsletter, fliers in the Clubhouse, on social media, and on the app blog, a person is no longer reliant on receiving a push notification at just the right time, but can mark their calendars to send their reservation at the appointed time. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you of our policy for RSVPing for large groups. In an effort to ensure each person with a reservation attends (and to prevent members from being charged for events they did not plan on attending), our policy no longer allows us to accept RSVPs on others behalves. If you would like to RSVP for an event as a group, or if someone is away and unable to RSVP for themselves, you may do so by copying all parties on the RSVP email; individuals will then have 24 hours to confirm their reservations. For those who are away and unable to confirm within 24 hours, a pre-written confirmation may be attached. We then send a reservation confirmation to each individual. We appreciate your cooperation in this policy.
