Red Sox vs. Royals Tonight is the first of six between the Royals and BoSox this year, with this series thru Wednesday and then KC heading to Fenway Park at the end of July...the Royals were 4-2 against Boston last year, going 2-1 in each venue...kc trails the all-time body of work by a slim 231-233 margin, including a 127-104 advantage in Kansas City, 113-94 in Kauffman Stadium. Date Site Score WP LP Att. 6/19 KC 6/20 KC 6/21 KC 7/28 @ Bos 7/29 @ Bos 7/30 @ Bos CALIFORNIA DREAMIN --The Royals completed a successful 7-2 trek through the state of California on Sunday with a 7-3 win over the Angels to take three of four from the Halos in Anaheim...two huge 2-out hits provided the majority of the offense, as Mike Moustakas turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead with a bases clearing double in the third and then Salvador Perez clubbed a 3-run homer in the fourth to cap a 4-run frame, his 14th blast of the year...that was more than enough for Jason Vargas, who became Major League Baseball s first 10-game winner of 2017 with 6.0 innings allowing three runs on eight hits...the relief trifecta of Peter Moylan, Scott Alexander and Kelvin Herrera cleaned up the final three innings, with Herrera coaxing a double play grounder from Albert Pujols to end the contest...kc left town after a loss here to the Astros on June 8, with a 26-33 record only to fall to 26-34 after losing the trip opening on June 9 in San Diego, but the club has since won seven of the last eight and is two under.500 entering this homestand. IN THE BIG INNING--Kansas City scored 55 runs during the just completed 9-game road trip through California, with 32 of those tallies (58%) coming in just seven innings of play...the Royals had a 9-run inning in San Diego, a 6-run frame in San Francisco, a pair of 4-run innings and three 3-run during the journey... yesterday was the sixth time on the road trip the KC has scored at least seven runs in the game and dating back to the last homestand, the Royals have scored at least seven runs in nine of their last 10 victories...dating back to June 3, when the Royals plated 12 runs in a win here over Cleveland, Kansas City has scored 87 runs, which are fourth most in the Majors in that span and second only to the Yankees (98) in the American League. LONG BALL JOURNEY--The 3-run homer by Salvador Perez yesterday was the 18th home run on the 9-game road trip, tying Cleveland for second most in the A.L. since June 9 and trailing only the Yankees (20)...the Royals have Mike Moustakas tied for fifth in the league with 18 home runs, while Perez is now tied for 16th with his 14 blasts...lorenzo Cain clobbered six home runs during the 9-game tour to up his season total 10. ROSTER MOVE--The Royals today recalled right-handed pitcher Kevin McCarthy from Omaha (AAA) and optioned left-handed hurler Eric Skoglund back to the Storm Chasers...McCarthy, who will wear #61, is in his second stint with the big league club this year, appearing four times from May 29-June 7, allowing just three hits in 6.1 innings...the 25-year old has appeared in 20 games for Omaha, allowing seven earned runs in 27.0 innings for a 2.33 ERA...Skoglund started three games for Kansas City, going 1-1 with a 5.59 ERA...he won his big league debut with 6.1 shutout innings against Detroit on May 30. ALL ABOARD--The Cain Train has a strong road trip, becoming just the seventh player ever to record at least 15 hits, six home runs and drive home 11 runs in a trip that consisted of nine or fewer games...lorenzo Cain joined such lofty company as Davey Lopes (1979), Eddie Murray (1980), Barry Bonds (2001), Shawn Green (2002), David Ortiz (2002) and Adam LaRoche (2006)...he swiped a pair of bases in Saturday s setback in Anaheim and is now 14-for-14 in stolen bases and the only Major League player with at least nine stolen bases to still be perfect on the year...locain hit as many home runs in Friday s game at Anaheim (2) as he had in the first 51 games of the season...overall, he s hit eight home runs in his last 15 games...in nine games on the trip, Cain hit.417 (15-for-36) with 13 runs to go with the six homers and 11 RBI, while posting a.475 on-base pct. and.944 slugging pct. ACE 30 REMEMBERING YO--The morning of January 22, 2017 will always be remembered as one of the most tragic days in franchise history when word was received that pitcher Yordano Ventura had his life cut short due to a car accident in his native Dominican Republic...signed as a 17-year old in 2008, the fireballing right-hander compiled a 38-31 during his abbreviated Major League career...among many highlights, Ace will be most remembered for blanking the San Francisco Giants over 7.0 innings in Game #6 of the 2014 World Series to force a seventh and deciding game, while pitching with a heavy heart himself due to the untimely passing of his friend Oscar Tavares...to honor the late Ventura, all uniforms in 2017 will be adorned with the ACE 30 patch.
