Our Cultural Week will include performances, shared lunch and traditional costumes. In support of Cultural Week activities, students are encouraged to bring a plate of food with a cultural flavour to share in their classrooms. Teachers will be sending notes home which will indicate which day they can bring a plate of food. Ideas for students are: rice, tortilla, sushi, guacamole, naan bread, dim sims, hummus, mini pies, tzatziki, pavlova, pizza etc. Students are also encouraged to dress in traditional costumes from any country of the world. It could be just a typical element of the traditional clothing; a hat, a scarf or a sarong. Book Fair: MOnday 19th - Friday 23rd March Our first Book Fair commences on Monday 19th March and will run for the full week. The Book Fair will be open before school each morning from 8-8:45am and after school from 3-3:45pm. All students will visit the Book Fair during the week with their classes and will be able to fill out a Wish list to take home. Book Fairs help our school stock up on resources to enrich your children's education. Best of all, each Book Fair provides students with access to more books. More books mean more choice, which means students get to read the books they want to read. The right book can ignite a passion for reading, so we encourage families to work together to create a reading culture at home. Reading expands the mind, nourishes the imagination, and opens a world of possibility. (Pictured: Cultural Day 2017) TBSS Supporting YAPS! During our Book Fair week, every student donating an item of pet food will have their name put in a draw to win one of three Scholastic book bags filled with goodies! Bring your items for YAPS to the library during Book Fair week. We look forward to seeing you at our Book Fair! Newsletter 13 March 2018 Term 1, Week 8 Page 5 Year 2 News Year 2 has been creating character descriptions in their English unit this term. We have had some very creative ideas and the kids have loved developing their own unique characters. Here is a snippet of some of the work our students have done in class: Leonardo the Dragon When I was born my fierce dad called me Leo. I live in a deep, dark cave on a mountain. I live with my mum, dad, and my brother. My wings are as big as a double decker bus and as strong as twenty elephants. I have claws as sharp as shark s teeth. I have scales so that I can dive deep into the ocean. I can chop three hundred sharks in my mouth. People are no problem to eat. My heart is bad and evil. I steal the children of the village. I attack the people and the scared princesses. My family and I eat them. If you want to live you should stay away from me because I am a stereotypical and sneaky dragon. By Keenan Sunny the Magic Dragon When I hatched out of my egg I was so happy that my mother named me Sunny. I live in a dark cave in the woods with my mother, father, brothers and sisters. I have a large, scaly body including a large scaly head and wings. My wings are so strong they can blow everybody over. When I land, lots of dirt goes everywhere and there is a big splash of blood on me. Although I have the appearance of a stereotypical dragon, I am nice. When the kids in the village have their birthdays, I give them a ride on my back. I want you to know that just because I look mean, it doesn t mean I am. You should just get to know me. By Abby Puff the Magic Dragon I hatched out of an egg, and then the Gods struck me with lightning so Mum called me Puff. I live in the shining, blue sea. I like to live alone. People say that I m a non-stereotypical dragon because I live in the ocean but I actually look like a stereotypical dragon. I have the appearance of a dragon like the ones in fairytales. I am huge and I have sharp claws. I have red skin and wings as big as a whiteboard. Although I have the appearance of a stereotypical dragon I am actually very sweet. I just like to put children on my back to give them fun. You should get to know me before you judge me on my scary appearance. By Bailey P&C Association Last night the P&C held our AGM which was a great summary of the successful year we had engaging with our school and parents. The Executive remains relatively unchanged for the next year and consists of: President: Katrina Bird Vice President: Jodi Allen Secretary: Lisa Hollander Treasurer: Ashley Turner At the general meeting the P&C discussed how community engagement will look like this year, with a few proposals put forward including a colour run and a big breakfast. If you would like to be part of some of these discussions make sure you don t miss our next meeting on Monday the 23rd of at 6pm in the Staff Room. Feel free to speak with any one of the Executive Members when you see them around the school, we are always willing to answer questions.
