Following the Michelson Trail through town is the best way to get around via bicycle. You will stay on the bike path until just before Central High School. 52.9 Bike path splits; stay right going under the bridge and along Rapid Creek. Bike path now parallels Rapid Creek all the way to Central High School. 56.3 Turn left onto Mt. Rushmore Road 56.5 At Central High School Map of Downtown Rapid City High School is on upperleft. Restaurant maps available at host table or Chamber of Commerce but just head south from the school to Main Street where you ll find LOTS of restaurants.

Day 4 Rapid City to Spearfish - Wednesday, July 15

Day 4 Rapid City to Spearfish GROUP START A SPECIAL BICYCLE PARADE We have a special opportunity to have police escort out of town saving us the risk of pedaling on busy city streets. The group exit gathers at the High School t 6:30 a.m. and will take off at 6:40 a.m. Don t worry about being bunched up for long since it is an uphill climb for a good ways once we leave town. Route Turns Directions 0 Leave at 6:40 a.m. From high school, go south (turning right) onto Mt Rushmore Road. 0.2 Turn right onto Omaha Street (NO SHOULDER!!) 1.7 Omaha Street becomes West Chicago Street (good shoulder) 2.7 Cross Sturgis Road, proceed on West Chicago. 3.4 West Chicago veers right and becomes S. Canyon Road (at intersection of 44 th Street) 4.3 Exit Rapid City and begin steady climb up the canyon 13.5 Road becomes Nemo Road 17.9 REST STOP #1 Steamboat Rock Picnic Area Open 7 to 9 a.m. 21.3 Enter town of Nemo 22.0 Turn right onto Vanocker Canyon Road 36.3 Rest Stop #2 at smallish pullout next to road. Open 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you want to bypass going through downtown Sturgis, use alternate B route below. It turns left on Dickson Street approximately 200 yards before going under the interstate. 38.5 Go under Interstate and into Sturgis 40.0 At T turn left onto Highway 34 41.2 Pass under Interstate 41.4 Turn right onto Frontage Road

47.8 Turn right at stop sign, going into Whitewood 48.0 Rest Stop #3 city park in Whitewood 48.3 Go over Interstate 50.1 Turn left onto Acorn Ridge 54.4 Stop sign turn left 59.3 At Stop Sign go straight 63.6 At light, go straight NOTE THERE IS A BIKE PATH STARTING T THIS POINT WHICH IS A NICE OPTION TO AVOID TRAFFIC 63.7 Enter Spearfish VOLUNTEERS: The motel for the night, the Holiday Inn, is to the north of the Interstate from this intersection. 65.1 At light, turn on Spearfish Canyon Road and get on the bike path. Follow the bike path as it turns north along the creek. Bike route mileage addition: Those who want a few more miles might want to take the Spearfish Canyon 66.1 When bike path comes to street (N. Canyon Street), turn onto street or, if you prefer, continue on the bike path on the other side of the street. 67.3 Slight right turn towards Middle School. Go through parking lot to the High School that is next door. 67.4 At High School Alternate Route at Sturgis to avoid busy downtown 0 Turn left onto Dickson Street before going under interstate 0.3 Continue straight, street becomes Otter St. 0.6 Turn right on Raccoon St. 0.8 Turn right onto Moose Street 2.7 Turn right onto Lazelle St (Highway 14A) 2.8 Turn left onto Whitewood Frontage Road and return to other cue sheet at milepost 41.4.

Day 5 Spearfish to Devil s Tower Thursday July 16

Day 5: Spearfish to Devil s Tower Route Turns Directions 0.0 From school, go out of parking lot on the north end. Turn left onto Hillsview Rd. 0.2 Turn right on Evans Lane 1.3 Turn left onto Highway 14. 11.2 Return to Wyoming Rest Stop #1 at state line Open: 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. 12.8 Pass through Beulah 18.9 Wyoming Visitor s Center on left 19.1 Turn right onto WW Hwy 111 27.3 Turn left onto Highway 24. Note: Aladdin General Store is 0.5 mile if you go right. 32.4 REST STOP #2 at big pullout Open: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. 41.0 Enter town of Alva no services 43.8 REST STOP #3 at big pullout Open: 9 a.m. to Noon 49.7 Enter town of Hulett. Restaurants, convenience stores, etc. Zigzag through town, staying on main route. Note: Sag support from Hulett to Devils Tower Ends at 1 p.m. or until all riders get to Hulett. If you stay in Hulett for lunch, don t expect support for the nine miles to the Tower. 60.2 Turn right, towards Devils Tower 60.8 At KOA Campground

Day 6 Devil s Tower to Sundance Route Turns Directions 0.00 Leave KOA and return to highway; Turn right 6.6 At junction, turn left. 10.2 REST STOP CROSSOVER STOP USE CAUTION!! Open 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. 25.7 Pass under Interstate 25.8 Enter Sundance. Continue straight. 280 At High School/Fairgrounds
