September 2017 Hitting Close to Home By: Ariel Clarkston and Haylie George The boys baseball team has done really well this year. Their record this year was 9-4. We asked some boys on the team a couple questions about playing baseball. We asked second baseman and center field player Landyn Blakeney how long has he been playing. He said for 10 years. We also asked him how the team has done this year, and he said they have done well. Then we asked seventh grader second baseman and pitcher, Ethan McMaster how long has he been playing. He said 8 years. Then we asked him what are his strengths and he said defense was one. Baseball season is over now, but at least the team had a great season! We want to thank the team members who represented WJHS! Whatever Floats Your Boat By: Alexis Reffet and Mackenzie Blanden How many of you were at the Labor Day parade? The Westville Labor Day Parade was on September 4, 2017. We found three students to answer a couple of questions! We asked Alyssa Wright what her favorite float was and she said, The Wizard of Oz float. Then we asked Quinten Bina and Will Terry, and they both said The football float. Next we asked them if they had a good time, and they agreed, The Labor Day Parade was fun. We hope you all had a great time also and we re glad nobody got hurt. Many of our students were included in the Labor Day Parade. It was a great time and I m so glad this year s parade turned out so great! Pictured Below: Our very own Mea Sparling was also included in this year s Labor Day Parade, She was in a convertible for cheer and The Labor Day Pageant.

Coach Patterson replied, I feel excited and ready to get our first game under our belt. We also asked a couple of players what they thought about the season starting. Seventh grader Katlyn Scaggs remarked, I feel excited that we may do well. One of our eighth graders Riley Tuggle thinks the team is really good at working together and she thinks this season will go a lot smoother than last. I didn t put a ton of thought into teaching P.E I haven t had a ton of experience in teaching. I was very nervous at first, but now I can say that I truly enjoy teaching. -What made you think about this this career? I didn t consider it until right before I was hired, but I was really interested in making a difference and being able to use my life experiences to help others. What do you enjoy about coaching basketball? I enjoy seeing others get better at the game of basketball. When I am able to make suggestions on how to become better and seeing it go into effect, it is very rewarding.
