Dear Skaters, Coaches and Parents: The Rolling Meadows Park District cordially invites you to our 19th annual ISI Open Team Competition, "Frost Fest 2017-18," at West Meadows Ice Arena located in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. On Sunday January 14, 2018, we will be hosting the following events: Artistic, Solo, Solo Compulsories and Music Interpretive (Tot-FS10), Open Freestyle, New Open Short program, Footwork, Spotlight, Couples and Couples Spotlight, Rhythmic Skating, and Special Skater events. We will also host many of the team events including Synchronized Skating, Formation, Synchronized Open, Theater Production, Ensemble and Team Compulsories. Also included this year are Creative Spin Combo, Spread Eagle and Spiral events. Again this year open short program! You can compete all your US programs! Enclosed is information regarding the competition along with entry forms. The rules and regulations in the current ISI Handbook will be rigorously followed. DISTRICT 8 REFEREE PANEL District 8 is proud to announce the continued success of the District Referee Panel & Committee Currently in its 7 th season the goal of this panel continues to ensure the consistency and quality to all District 8 competitions by enforcing the ISI guidelines and procedures. The members of this panel have gone through training endorsed by the ISI national office. Each referee is a current ISI professional member, gold certified judge, and ISI Certified Referee. Each competition will be supplied with a referee for the duration of their competition to ensure quality judging and rule interpretation. In order to continue supplying each competition with qualified individuals, an additional $2 per competitor and $ 15 per team is added to each entry fee to support this program. (Some competitions include this fee in their registration fee.) Thank you for supporting the district s continued efforts to provide fair and positive experiences for all its skaters, parents and coaches.
ROLLING MEADOWS PARK DISTRICT "Frost Fest 2017-18" Open Team Competition Endorsed by the ISI Sunday January 14, 2018 Endorsement #1-3199-2017 The Frost Fest 2017-18 competition will be held Sunday January 14 at West Meadows Ice Arena, 3939 Winnetka Avenue, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008. The Frost Fest 2017-18 Open Team Competition events include: Artistic, Solo, Solo Compulsories and Music Interpretive (Tot-FS10), Open Freestyle, New Open Short program, Footwork, Spotlight, Couples and Couples Spotlight, Rhythmic Skating, and Special Skater events. Events are offered to all ages-tots through adults. We will also host many of the team events including Synchronized Skating, Formation, Synchronized Open, Theater Production, Ensemble and Team Compulsories. Eligibility: All skaters entering this competition must be individual members of the ISI. Skaters must enter in the highest test passed and must be registered with ISI before December 10, 2017. All entries must be postmarked by December 10, 2017. Late entries will only be accepted at the discretion of the Competition Director and will be charged an additional $25 late fee. Skaters cannot compete if tests are not submitted and ISI memberships are not current. Members of U.S.F.S. are eligible to compete as per ISI/USFS joint statement of policy. Requirements for test levels at which U.S.F.S. skaters may compete are listed below. Also, refer to standards and charts listed in the I.S.I. Test Standards. False information will result in disqualification. The team coach must verify this information with his or her signature at the bottom of the entry form with rink authenticity stamp (district 8). Entry forms and checks with the proper dollar amount must be turned in to your team coach or to the person in charge. All entries and checks should then be forwarded to the Rolling Meadows Ice Arena before December 1, 2017.
This competition will follow the rules and regulations in the current ISI Handbook. All programs must reflect the latest test and competition standards. We suggest that you and your skaters refer to current publications available from the ISI Headquarters at 6000 Custer Road, Bldg. 9, Plano, TX 75023, Phone 972-735-8800. Accounting Review Requests must be made in writing, no more than one (1) hour after the results have been posted. All review requests must include a $50.00 review fee, which will be refunded should the review be upheld. Review Requests will be considered valid if a standard or rule has been incorrectly applied or interpreted, and invalid if judgment is in question. Review Requests must be filed with the registration table by the team coach ONLY. The competition is for all levels of achievement and will cover the following divisions: Tot, PreAlpha, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Freestyle 1 10 and Open Bronze-Platinum. In the case of a large or small enrollment in any age group, we reserve the right to divide or combine the age groups. In an event where there is only one entry, the skater will compete and place according to the rules of the ISI Handbook. When competing against the book, the skater must earn 80% of the total possible points to place first in the category. Not all uncaptured jumps and spins are legal for all levels of competition. Check your current ISI Handbook for further information. There will be a short warm up before each division skates. All routines shall start from a stationary position. Timing starts at the first sign of action after the music begins. TOT Tot skaters are not required to perform an additional move from Freestyle one. Program length is 1 minute with a ten second leeway. Tot 1 is a child who has never skated before preparation for this event. Tot 2 is a child, who has just started to skate, can walk on the ice, has forward movement ability and has been introduced to back swizzles. Tot 3 is a child who has begun all Pre Alpha skills. Tot 4 is a child who has strong Pre Alpha skills. PREALPHA-DELTA Pre Alpha, Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta a one minute routine that includes all the required test level maneuvers. FREESTYLE 1-10 Solo A routine of the rule book specified length containing all the required maneuvers from that level. OPEN FREESTYLE This is an event to include every program. No required maneuvers. Should be a well- balanced program. All US programs can fit into these levels. Attention should be paid to not exceed the allowable level maximums FOOTWORK Sequences of footwork of a skaters own design, performed to music. SPECIAL SKATER Event for skaters of all ages who participate in the ISI Special Skater Program.
SOLO COMPULSORY EVENT (TOT-FS10) In the compulsory event, the three pre-selected maneuvers are to be performed one time, in any order, in a pre-choreographed program with a minimum amount of connecting steps between each maneuver. Only the first attempt of each of the three pre-selected maneuvers will be judged. (Maneuvers will not be called out, and no music will be used) Alpha through Freestyle 5 will use ½ the ice and Freestyle 6 through 10 will use the full ice surface. Note: There is no penalty given for the quantity of swizzles, wiggles, strokes or crossovers performed in the Tot-Beta levels. Only the quality of these maneuvers is judged. The following compulsory maneuvers will be skated in each level of competition: Tot 1 - Marching, Two Foot Glide, Backward wiggle Tot 2 - Forward Swizzle, Two-Foot Glide, Two-Foot Jump Tot 3 - Push and Glide Stroking, Dip, Forward Swizzle Tot 4 - T-Position and Push Right, Backward Swizzle, Two-Foot or One-Foot Snowplow Stop PreAlpha- One Foot Glide, Forward Swizzle, Backward Swizzle Alpha - Forward stroking, Right over Left Forward Crossovers, Snowplow Stop Beta - Backward stroking, T-Stop Left Foot, Left over Right Backward Crossovers Gamma - Right Forward inside Mohawk Combination, Left Forward outside Three Turn, Hockey Stop Delta - Forward Outside Edges, Bunny Hop, Left Forward inside Three Turn Freestyle 1-1/2 Flip, Waltz Jump, Two-Foot Spin Freestyle 2 - Ballet Jump, ½ Lutz, One-Foot Spin Freestyle 3 - Salchow Jump, Toe Loop Jump, Change Foot Spin Freestyle 4 - Flip Jump, Loop Jump, Sit Spin Freestyle 5 Lutz Jump, Axel Jump, Camel Spin Freestyle 6 - Split Jump, Double Salchow, Spin combination with change of foot and position Freestyle 7 - Double Toe Loop Jump, Two Walleys in sequence, Flying Camel Spin Freestyle 8 - Double Loop, Split Lutz, Flying Sit Spin Freestyle 9 - Double Lutz Jump, Axel-Double Loop Jump, Flying Camel Spin into a Jump Sit Spin Freestyle 10 - Double Axel/Double Toe Loop Jump Combination, Triple Edge Jump, Death Drop MUSIC INTERPRETATION (TOT-FS10) The emphasis of this event is on the Skaters ability to choreograph to music, not on the difficulty of the maneuvers performed. Skaters will hear and skate to chosen music in warm-up and then be asked to perform a routine they have choreographed in that short time. For judging of interpretive events, three or five judges may be used. Skaters of several test levels and skaters of both genders may be combined for competition purposes in this event. SOLO SPOTLIGHT (CHARACTER, LIGHT ENTERTAINMENT) Entertaining routines using music costumes, props (optional). Character portrays a famous character. Light entertainment is vaudeville style. COUPLES SPOTLIGHT (LOW-PLATINUM) Two skaters perform a routine portraying a character using music costumes and optional props. RHYTHMIC SKATING Rhythmic Gymnastics on ice. Skater performs with a hand held prop of either a ball, hoop or ribbon.
SPECIALTY EVENTS-These events are considered "created events" for this competition. The event guidelines and judging criteria will not be found in the ISI Handbook. SPREAD EAGLE COMPETITION (FS1-10) Skaters perform one spread eagle (either edge/direction) and are judged on technique and length of the maneuver. SPIRAL COMPETITION (PreAlpha-FS10) Skaters perform chosen forward spiral (either foot or edge) one at a time and are judged on position and length of the maneuver. Grab spirals are not permitted. CREATIVE SPIN COMBO (FS4 and above) Are you a good spinner? Then this one is for you. Get creative! The only requirement is that this combo spin must include a change of foot and position. All positions and variations are allowed. Skaters will be grouped according to level and age as much as the number of entries allow. TEAM EVENTS SYNCHRONIZED FORMATION AND SYNCHRONIZED SKATING TEAMS Group skating where a team of up to 24 skaters is judged on their formations and synchronization. SYNCHRONIZED OPEN This event or Sr. Youth, Teen, Collegiate and Adult age divisions only will consist of a 4:00 minute program with no required elements. The program restrictions for traditional skating team events must be followed. ADVANCED FORMATION This new team category is for skaters who are continuing to master the basics of good synchronized skating such as straight lines, correct holds and unison. The program must include at least one of each of the basic elements. FREESTYLE SYNCHRO Groups of three to seven skaters perform a freestyle program together at their corresponding freestyle level. The skaters must perform all maneuvers in unison in shadow or mirror position. TEAM COMPULSORIES Six or seven skaters compete together at a certain level, each performing one of the six or seven required compulsory maneuvers from that corresponding freestyle level. ENSEMBLE This group event is open to teams of three to seven skaters from all levels and ages. It is similar to a group spotlight routine with no required maneuvers and no technical scoring. PRODUCTION TEAM Skaters of all ages perform maneuvers at any level all together. No technical scoring. THEATRE PRODUCTION An advanced group of skaters coming together to tell a story. Show like performance with a longer duration of 6.5 minutes.

ROLLING MEADOWS PARK DISTRICT ICE SKATING PROGRAM WAIVER & RELEASE IMPORTANT INFORMATION The Rolling Meadows Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Rolling Meadows Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participants safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for this program must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or adequately skilled for ice skating activities. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.
