Current University of Alabama students should attach Enrollment Verification from the University Registrar and proof of overall GPA. Current students must have a cumulative overall GPA of 2.75 or better. Must attend a two-day audition starting on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28, where an interview, skills assessment, group routine, and individual routine will be evaluated. Those making the new team must attend a meeting directly following auditions. Refer to the Audition Schedule of Events for audition schedule. No video submission accepted. NEW FOR AUDITIONS Friday Interview and Dance/Physical Fitness. Two weeks prior to auditions you will receive a confirmation and a dance/physical fitness video link through email. You will learn the video routine and perform it on Friday night. An audition fee of $35 (check, money order, or cash) will be collected at check-in on audition day. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ARE THERE ANY HEIGHT & WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS? We DO NOT have specific height and weight requirements. Team body fat testing is taken twice a year and the results are monitored by the trainer and nutritionist. Personal health and fitness are an important aspect of the program. CAN HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS AUDITION? Yes, if you are accepted to The University of Alabama. CAN CRIMSONETTES PARTICIPATE IN SORORITY RECRUITMENT? We want Crimsonettes to have the opportunity to affiliate with a sorority if they desire to join the Greek system, however it is preferred that first-year Crimsonettes defer sorority recruitment to spring since band camp and sorority recruitment are the same dates. WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF AUDITIONS? (1) Interview, (2) dance/physical fitness, (3) group twirling routine, (4) Individual twirling/dance twirl routine. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO AUDITIONS? Interview: Business; Dance/Physical Fitness and Group Routine: Nike Classic Swoosh Sports Bra (Black), Nike Pro 3 Volleyball Shorts (black); Individual Routine: A majorette costume; (optional) skin colored dance tights; and dance shoes of any type (no hard-heel shoes). CAN I USE PROPS AT AUDITIONS? Props or special costumes can be used to enhance performance. PROPS MUST BE SMALL ENOUGH TO CARRY THROUGH DOORS AND MUST HAVE FLOOR PROTECTIVE SURFACES ATTACHED. THERE ARE NO LARGE ENTRANCES TO FACILITY. ANY DAMAGE TO THE FLOOR DUE TO PROPS WILL BE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE APPLICANT. WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE CRIMSONETTE? Our judges will use the following selection criteria: Dance/Twirling Technique and Enthusiasm, Energy, & Spirit Skills Showmanship, Projection, Poise Personal Appearance Flexibility--High Kicks/Splits WHAT DANCE and TWIRLING SKILLS SHOULD I BE ABLE TO EXECUTE? The following are examples of skills that could be incorporated into audition group routines and are not limited to the following skills. Special notice will be given to those executing advanced skills in individual routines. Turns Pirouettes double, triple (left and right); Chaine; Pique, Illusion Leaps Grand Jete, Attitude (Calypso), Axle, Leap to second, arabesque leap, cabriole, stag Flexibility Kicks and splits Acrobatic/Gymnastics Cartwheels, backbends, front/back walkers Twirling Finger twirls, full-hand twirls, horizontals, tosses, multi-turns (1, 2, 3 etc.). Special emphasis is placed on pattern, timing, spin, technique and releases. HOW LONG SHOULD MY INDIVIDUAL ROUTINE BE? Individual routines should not exceed 2 minutes. Incorporate twirling and dance-twirl skills into routine. You may use one or more batons. Music should be on a CD. A sound system will be provided. HOW SHOULD I WEAR MY MAKE-UP AND HAIR? Use make-up shades that complement your natural beauty. Hair should be worn in a current hairstyle that compliments your features. Make sure your hair does not hide your face. Face and hair should be game ready. HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY APPLICATION WAS RECEIVED? You will receive an e-mail that your application was processed. Any application received without the required forms will not be processed. WHEN DO I REPORT FOR AUDITIONS? See Schedule of Events. CAN MY FAMILY WATCH AUDITIONS? Dance/Physical Fitness Routine: Friday night is open to the public. Group Routine: Closed to the public. Individual Routine: Open to public. NO OUTSIDE CHAIRS ALLOWED IN FACILITY. DO YOU HAVE FEATURE TWIRLERS? We do not have feature twirlers; however, young ladies with special talents might be featured during a half-time performance. ARE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE? Students in need may apply for financial assistance through University Bands. Every effort is made to provide financial assistance to Crimsonettes through the Ladies of Halftime calendar project. IS THERE A BAND/CRIMSONETTE FEE? Yes; amount is $905/year. HOW SHOULD I SCHEDULE FALL CLASSES? Band class is 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. each day. Other Audition Information Students must be accepted to The University of Alabama to be eligible to audition. Current students must have a cumulative overall GPA of 2.75 or better. See audition application. Students should register for auditions by completing the audition packet and mailing at least two weeks prior to auditions. Packets should include required documents to be placed on the audition list. Judging is based on skills in twirling, dancing, physical fitness, and the ability to learn and execute the group routine. The judges results are final. At audition check-in, bring a CD of individual routine music and $35 audition fee (acceptable forms of payment are checks or money orders made payable to the University of Alabama or cash). Students will receive a video link of the dance/physical fitness routine two weeks prior to auditions and should learn the routine to be performed on Friday night of auditions. Students will be taught a group routine on Saturday and will then perform the routine in small groups during the morning session. Contestants are asked to wear Nike Classic sports bra and Nike Pro 3 volleyball shorts for dance/physical fitness and group routines. Individual routines should be two minutes in length and display a balance of dancing and twirling. Students may use one or multiple batons in their routine. Students are also permitted to employ additional props to enhance their performance. If students include props, they must be quickly setup and removed. Props must have floor protective surfaces. Any damage to the floor, walls or facility due to props will be at the expense of the applicant. Students may incorporate the use of someone else in their routine; however, it should not divert the focus from the individual audition. Students should wear a majorette/leotard type costume for individual routines. Students may add a skirt or additional costume if needed for the routine. Acceptable footwear includes jazz shoes; no heel marking shoes. The group routine is closed to the public. Dance/Physical Fitness & Individual routines are open to the public. No photography during auditions. Cameras only when Crimsonettes are announced.
