TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR S MESSAGE Dear Players, Coaches, and Families, Congratulations! Your team has qualified as one of the top fast pitch softball teams in the country and you have earned the right to play in the 2017 14U & 16U B Southern National Championship Tournaments. We look forward to welcoming your team to our beautiful city, Broken Arrow, July 26 30, 2017. We anticipate an exciting week for the players, coaches and families to enjoy the best fast pitch softball in the country. We hope you will also take home memories that will last a lifetime. We are very pleased to have such talented teams from all over the country come to Broken Arrow. All of your games will be played in the same complex, Arrowhead Park. The citizens of Broken Arrow built this park solely for girls fast pitch softball. We have 12 lighted fields with 200 permanent fences. We are very proud that we are the 2014 USA Softball Complex of the Year. This beautiful park is owned by the City but is maintained by very hard working volunteers that will work tirelessly to ensure your time playing in Broken Arrow is a pleasant experience. Within this packet are valuable team information, registration submissions, deadlines, hotel accommodations, rules and regulations governing the tournament and use of the park, plus maps of the city and Arrowhead Park. We ask that you read over the information completely and understand the tournament procedures especially the deadlines. This will certainly help the tournament run more smoothly and efficiently. See Express Check-in Form. The manager of each team must check their team in and pick up their teams packet. Due at this time: Player pick-up forms Player Check-In: Each teams players must check in before they participate in the tournament. Please have your team line up in the exact order as they are listed on the championship roster. Pick-up players will be at the end of your line. Each player will present their photo ID and sign the official sign-in sheet. Bat Testing: During your team check-in, all bats that will be used during the tournament will be checked on the barrel compression machine. The bats that pass the compression machine test will have a hologram placed on them. All bats will also be subject to bat inspection by the umpires prior to all games. Only the bats with holograms and that pass umpire inspection prior to each game will be allowed. 4
DATES / DEADLINES (CONTINUED) Wednesday, July 26: Team/Player Check-In Coaches / Managers Mtg. Team Party Thursday, July 27: Gift Exchange Pool Play Times will be available to check-in your team from 8:30-11:00 AM at TBA. (See Express Check-In Form) The Coach/Manager meeting will be held from 12:00-2:00 PM at TBA. One representative from each team must be present. Maximum of 2 coaches per team. 7 PM - Team Party at TBA Ice Cream Social, DJ and much, much more. There will be a gift exchange at the end of your first pool game. Cost is recommended not to exceed $10 per gift. Each team will play two (2) pool play games. Play will begin Thursday morning. You must participate in your pool games or you will be eliminated from bracket play. Pool games will seed into bracket. Friday, July 28: Pool Play Bracket Play Based on the number of teams, pool play may continue in the morning. After pool games are complete; there will be a bracket draw will be at Arrowhead Park in the Board Room. Bracket play will start in the evening. Saturday, July 29: Bracket Play Championship Day, bracket play continues. Sunday, July 30: This day is for weather delays and a travel day for the teams. 5
TEAM INFORMATION Format: Uniforms: Infield Practices: Team Practices: Warm-Up Areas: Run Ahead Rule: Line-Up Forms: Game Times: Dugouts: Pool play then double-elimination bracket per USA Softball Code. Pool play will seed into bracket All players must comply in accordance with Rule 3 Section 6 of the 2016 USA Softball Official Rules of Softball. Infield practices will not be allowed. Teams may warm-up behind the baseline after the field crew has completed their work on the field. Team practice times will be available prior to the start of the tournament. Teams may warm-up in designated areas. For pre-tournament practice time, please contact Robert Shafer at rcshafer@cox.net or 918-355-4970. Teams may use fields at Arrowhead Park for warm-up as long as they are not scheduled for games during the tournament. We will have a list of available fields at the Manager s meeting. No hitting into any fence. Refer to Rule 5, Section 9 Run Ahead Rule of the 2017 USA Softball Official Rules of Softball. Tournament officials will provide line-up forms for each game. The team packet will have 5 line-up forms. Beginning with your 6 th game, each team will pick-up your line-up form from the scorekeeper on your scheduled field. The line-up form should be returned to the scorekeeper no less than 30 minutes prior to game time. The coin toss will be done at this time also. Please follow the times listed on the official tournament bracket. Game time is forfeit time. Teams should be ready to start a game immediately after the preceding game is completed. Home team will be in the 3 rd base dugout; Visitors will be in the 1 st base dugout, unless already occupied from a previous game. Home team and visiting team will be determined by a coin toss 30 minutes before the scheduled game time to be conducted at the scorer s table behind the backstop of the field you will be playing. 6
TEAM INFORMATION (CONTINUED) Playing Rules: Time Limit: Conduct: Inclement Weather: All playing rules and regulations will be in accordance with the 2016 USA Softball Official Rules of Softball. No new inning shall start after a 1 hour and 40 minutes time limit. If the game is still tied after the time limit has expired, the tie breaker shall be in effect at the start of the next inning. EXCEPTION: There shall be no time limit on elimination play beginning with the winner s bracket final. Rule 5 Section 10 E & F. Managers and coaches are asked to have complete control of their players both on and off the field in accordance with Article 310 Section N of the USA Softball Code. In the event of inclement weather, the game must be resumed at the exact point where it was suspended. It is the manager s responsibility to contact the Tournament Director for rainout information. If the lightning detector sounds, everyone in the park should take their belongings and go to their cars until the all clear sounds (3 short blasts). BA Girls Softball has incorporated a 3-flag system to inform persons in the parking lot of the status of games. The red-flag at the front gate indicates games will not continue and to go home. The yellow-flag indicates games might continue; wait in the car/parking lot for other instructions. The green-flag indicates that games can resume, park will be reopened. The rainout number is 918-259-9437. Please be sure to sign up to receive text messages from Tournament USA Softball. This will be the first place that weather information will be sent from. Souvenirs: Medical: Game Changer: Boom Boxes/Music: Souvenirs will be available at Arrowhead Park. Pre-order sales will be handled on the www.bagsl.org website and will be available for pick-up at the Dugout souvenir stand at Arrowhead. We will have medical staff at the complex. Medical office will be located directly behind the main concession stand. All bracket games will have Game Changer scorebook available. Boom boxes/portable music systems are not allowed so please do not bring them into the park. By USA Softball Rules, they are considered artificial noisemakers. 7

Please let each hotel know you are with this tournament. This helps with determining the economic impact of this tournament. If you do not see a property you would like to stay at, please contact Carolyn to make arrangements for them to be added to our block. There is no charge for parking. Parking is limited, so we ask that you carpool when possible. Oversize vehicles will be asked to park in a designated lot. There will be a daily gate fee to enter the park. No charge for players. Concessions will be operating from the start of the tournament until the end of the last game. NO outside food or drinks will be allowed. NO ice chests allowed. Small personal coolers for medical reasons or for infants will be allowed. Small rag containers can be brought in, but all coolers will be checked at the front gate. There will be water stations available throughout the park for everyone to use. The water will be changed frequently and is filtered. Please stay hydrated! Water and Gatorade jugs with cups will be available for players in each dugout. They will be changed after each game. Alcoholic beverages are NOT PERMITTED!!! Note that this destination can reach temperatures well over 90 degrees this time of year. Please plan accordingly and make sure everyone stays properly hydrated. Things to do in Broken Arrow: No Smoking: A great website for things to do in your off time. http://www.travelok.com/broken_arrow Smoking and tobacco products are not allowed inside the Arrowhead Softball Park. Designated smoking areas are provided outside the complex. This includes E-cigarettes. 8

PARK RULES & REGULATIONS No person shall bring, possess, or consume any alcoholic beverages in the park or parking lot. Oversize vehicles will be asked to park in a designated lot. The Arrowhead and Oversized vehicle parking lots are day use only! No overnight parking is allowed. No hitting or soft toss into fences. No person shall destroy; damage or deface any complex property. All users are expected to leave the complex clean and orderly. Please help us by putting your trash in receptacles. Animals are NOT allowed in the complex. We welcome service dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability. The provision of emotional support, well-being, comfort or companionship is not the type of work or tasks considered in the ADA s definition of a service animal. (28 C.F.R./35.104; 28 C.F.R./35.136) Park rules forbid ice chests, however, due to safety issues, small containers containing rags or for medical reasons will be permitted, but will be subject to search at anytime.
