HYD 2 Educational Activities, Inc. www.edact.com HONOR YOUR PARTNER SQUARE DANCES # 2 Oral Instructions and Calls by Ed Durlacher Knowing the growing demand for square dancing in every phase of social life, it has been our intent to bring the uninitiated an innovation in these square dance recordings whereby all may enjoy participating in this form of group recreation. Each dance is preceded by simple Talk-through-Walk-through instructions and the dances are arranged in progression for easy learning and greater enjoyment. New dancers walk through the figures until they become familiar with them. That is the reason for the ten-second silence between the instructions and the actual dance. TRACK #1 - YANKEE DOODLE Square Dance (Instructions) INTRODUCTION Honors. Grand Right and Left, Promenade. DANCE First couple walk to Couple Two. Join their hands together with that Couple and walk once around to the left. Drop right hands and take left hands and walk to the right back to the starting place. Each Gent Swings the other Gent s Partner then Swings their own. Couple One visits each Couple in turn to do the figures. All then Swing Partners and Promenade. CHORUS Grand Right and Left, Promenade. DANCE Second Couple repeats Dance. ENDING Grand Right and Left, Promenade. Couples Three and Four do the Dance in turn. TRACK #2 - CALLS AND MUSIC

TRACK #3 - SWEET ALICE BENBOLT Exchange Partner Square Dance in Waltz Tempo (INSTRUCTIONS) INTRODUCTION Honors DANCE All join hands and waltz to the center, Honor, and back to place. Repeat once. Allemande Left. Allemande Right. Gents Waltz the Lady on their right, past their Partners, once around the Set to the Ladies position. Direction is counterclock-wise. Repeat the dance three more times. Good Waltzers will be able to Waltz twice around the set. TRACK #4 - CALLS AND MUSIC TRACK #5 - DUCK FOR THE OYSTER Square Dance (INSTRUCTIONS) INTRODUCTION Honors. Allemande Left, Grand Right and Left, Promenade. DANCE First Couple walk to Couple Two, join hands in a circle of four and walk to the left halfway around. Couple Two is now in the center of the Set and Couple One in Couple Two s position. CoupleTwo, with all still holding hands, make a one hand arch. Couple One walk under it, dropping hands with Couple Two and continue on to Couple Three. With CoupleThree the circle to the left is one and one-half times before Couple Three makes the arch. Couple One, after doing the figure with Couple Three continues to Couple Four where they again circle to the left one and one-half times, then do the figure. All Swing and Promenade. CHORUS Allemande Left, Grand Right and Left, Promenade. DANCE Second Couple repeats the Dance. ENDING Allemande Left, Grand Right and Left, Promenade. Couples Three and Four do the Dance in turn. TRACK #6 - CALLS AND MUSIC

TRACK #7 - LADIES CHAIN Square Dance (INSTRUCTIONS) INTRODUCTION Honors. Do-Si-Do Partner, Corner, Promenade. DANCE First Couple walk to Couple Two. Join right hands in a star. Walk to the left once around. Gents let go of hands stepping back to starting position. Ladies keep right hands joined and continue half-way around so they are facing Opposite Gents. Ladies drop right hand and give left hand to Opposite Gent in his left hand. Gents place their right arm around lady s waist and turn her counter-clock-wise to face other Couple. Ladies Chain back by taking right hands with each other, passing by, dropping right hands. Partners take left hands. Gent turn partner by placing his right arm around her waist turning her counter-clockwise. Couple One Swings in the center of the Set and visits with Couple Three and Four to do the figures. All Swing and Promenade. CHORUS Allemande Left, Grand Right and Left, Promenade. DANCE Second Couple repeats the Dance. ENDING Allemande Left, Grand Right and Left, Promenade. Couples Three and Four do the Dance in turn. TRACK #8 - CALLS AND MUSIC TRACK #9 - DARLING NELLIE GRAY Square Dance (INSTRUCTIONS) INTRODUCTION Honors. Allemande Left, Do-Si-Do Partners, Promenade. DANCE First Couple walk to Couple Two. Join hands and walk to the left once around. Right and Left, Right and Left back to place. Couple One Swing in the center of the Set and visit Couples Three and Four for the figures. All Swing and Promenade. CHORUS Allemande Left, Grand Right and Left, Promenade. DANCE Second Couple repeats the Dance. ENDING Allemande Left, Grand Right and Left Promenade. Couples Three and Four do the dance in turn.

TRACK #10 - CALLS AND MUSIC TRACK #11 - PUSH HER AWAY Exchange Partner Square Dance (INSTUCTIONS) INTRODUCTION Honors, Swing Partners, Promenade. DANCE All Gents go to the next lady past their Partner. They Balance, Swing and then kneel on one knee. Swing again. Move away from Partner by Gent letting go of left hand, come back and Swing again. Move away once more. Come back and Swing again. Gents continue around the Set doing the figures with each Lady in turn. All Promenade. ENDING Allemande Left, Grand Right and Left Promenade TRACK #12 - CALLS AND MUSIC GLOSSARY OF SQUARE DANCE TERMS ALLEMANDE LEFT Corners face and take left hands. Walk around each other to own position. BALANCE Partners, or as designated by Caller, take right hands, hop on the left foot and cross the right, hop on the right and cross the left. Repeat once. CORNER Lady on Gent s left. Gent on Lady s right. DO-SI-DO Partners, or those designated by Caller, face. Walk around each other passing right and then left shoulders back to own position. GRAND RIGHT AND LEFT Partners face and take right hands. Walk by each other and take left hands with the next person, right with the next, left with the next, meet own Partner. If no calls come prior to meeting Partner Grand Right and Left continues to own position. HONOR Partners, or those designated by Caller, face. Ladies Curtsy, Gents Bow. LADIES CHAIN Ladies, designated by Caller, walk to each other and take right hands. Pass by, dropping hands and give left hand to that Lady s Partner in his left.

Gents place their right arm around the Lady s waist and turn her counter-clockwise to face the other couple again. Ladies Chain back the same way. OPPOSITE Dancer directly opposite. PARTNER Lady on Gent s Right. Gent on Lady s left. PROMENADE Partners, or those designated by Caller, Cross hands in skating position and walk counter-clock-wise to position. Right arm should be over left. PUSH HER AWAY In Swing position Gents let go left hands, keeping hold of Partner s left hands in their right. Move back away from each other. RIGHT HANDS ACROSS ( RIGHT HAND STAR ) Couples, as designated by Caller, walk to each other and join right hands in a star formation. Walk in the direction they are facing ( clockwise ). RIGHT AND LEFT Each dancer takes the right hand of the dancer directly opposite. They pass by, dropping hands. Partners face and join left hands. Gent places his right hand under Lady s left forearm. Gent backs around, Lady walks around to face Opposite Couple. Right and Left back the same way. SET ( SQUARE ) Four Couples. Each Couple having their backs to one of the four walls. Couples with their backs to the Caller are Couples No. 1, Couples on Couple One s right are No. 2. Facing Couple One s Position Couple No. 3, facing Couple Two s position Couple No. 4. Couples One and Three are HEAD Couples. Couples Two and Four are SIDE Couples. Distance between facing Couples: about six feet. SWING Partners, or those designated by Caller, face. Gents take one step to the center and walk alongside the Lady. ( If with Corner Gent takes one step to his left, then walks alongside Lady ). The outside of the right feet should touch to start. The left foot is about six inches to the side with the toe of the left foot in line with the heel of the right. Take a regular dance arm position, leaning back just a bit so as to obtain leverage. With a slight pivot step on the ball of the right foot keep shoving around on the left as if on a scooter. In all hand figures the hands are held shoulder high to the shortest dancer in the figure.
