StoriesAndSigns.com My goal is to Entertain Educate Empower children by telling meaningful Stories while teaching Sign Language! Mr.C Out of Gas! Positive Repetition is a learning method that rewards your child in a positive way. Read through the story in one sitting. Note that the words printed in color correspond with the characters in the pictures above. Go back to the beginning of the book and begin to sign. Your child will see the signs as an actual part of the story which is now familiar to them. Parents can sign the two signs shown on each page and have your child copy you. Try not to touch their hands as they first struggle to find the sign themselves. They are exploring how they can manipulate on their own. Note the underlined words. These are the sign language words which were read and signed earlier in the story. Continue to re-read each book until all the signs listed in the back are learned. Your child will love re-reading the books and the feeling of mastering the signs more and more. Use these new sign language words throughout the day, reinforcing them to memory. The Positive Repetition of the sign language words will engage the memory, entertain the heart & empower your child.

We re going to Grama s house! A normal trip to Grama s turns into an amazing journey involving all sorts of transportation changes. Will the family EVER get there?!! Join us for this fun story & signs... Remember to USE your HANDS! At the end of this book, I have two special gifts just for you! Be sure and use your hands to learn the sign words! Mr.C

Dad going Make a "5" with your hand Tap your forehead with your thumb twice Open your hand on one side and pull it across your body ending with puckered fingers One ordinary day became extra special when my Dad said in a loud voice, OK...Let s get going. We need to pack up and get the car loaded! Come on everyone...let s get going! But Dad, where are we going? I asked. We are going to Grandma s house! Great idea Dad! and we all ran up the stairs to our bedrooms to pack.

Grandma house Make a "5" with your hand Put thumb on chin and make two dips out with your hand Put fingertips together above your head pull down and out to form roof & walls I dove under my bed and found my suitcase. After I put it on my bed I had to decide what to take with me. What do you think I should pack for my trip to Grandma s house? There is one very important thing that I need to take. Hmm...where is he? Oh there he is...my favorite bear, Buddy! Buddy likes Grandma s house too!

clothes shoes Palms against chest - brush down your shirt 2 times Make two S fists and bump them together two times I unzipped my suitcase and put in my clothes, my pajamas, my shoes and my toothbrush. I ll need some books, a game to play and my little night light. I tried to put in my pillow but I couldn t close my suitcase. It looked like a giant marshmallow sticking out! Can you think of anything else I need to take to Grandma s house?

door car Make two B hands side by side with palms outward - right hand turns in like a door Make two S fists and then act like you re turning a steering wheel back & forth I pulled my suitcase down the stairs and out the door and threw it into the back of the car. I jumped in the car, closed the door and put on my seatbelt so that it was snug and safe. Once we all got in... Dad started the car and we went laughing and singing down the road. We re going to Grandma s house in a car!

gas taxi cab Make a fist with thumb out - bring down into other fist like a gas nozzle Make a C - tap it on top of your head a few times like a light on top of a taxi All of a sudden the car went (Grrrr...clunk...pishhh!) Can YOU make this sound? On no! The car is out of gas! I cried, how are we going to get more gas? Don t worry, my Dad said, I ll just call a taxi cab to come get us. Great idea Dad! My Dad always has good ideas.

yellow fun Make a Y with your thumb & pinkie fingers out - wiggle your hand back and forth Put out first two fingers of each hand - right fingers tap your nose then tap the top of the other two fingers A big yellow taxi cab with a sign on top pulled up and we put our bags in the back. Getting into the taxi cab we started to sing, We re going to Grandma s house in a great big yellow taxi cab! We were having such fun riding in the big, yellow taxi cab that we didn t notice the strange, funny sound

airplane very Thumb, pointer and pinkie fingers out zoom it up in the air like an airplane Make a V with both hands Put fingertips together Pull apart (Grrrr...clunk...pishhh!) On no! The taxi cab is out of gas! I cried. Don t worry, my Dad said, we are near the airport. We can just take an airplane to Grandma s house. Is that a good idea? Yep...that s a great idea Dad!

happy fast Open hands palms to chest - brush your shirt upward two times Point both pointing hands forward pull them back quickly into fists We all got on the airplane and had just put on our seat belts when the pilot announced that we were about to take off. We are going to Grandma s house in an airplane...we are very happy! The airplane rolled to the end of the runway and then started going faster and faster and faster, until (Grrrr...clunk...pishhh!)

helicopter top Left fist has thumb pointed up - right flat hand palm sits on top wiggling One hand is the wall standing up - right flat hand taps on top of it - it makes a T On no! The airplane is out of gas! I cried. Don t worry, my Dad said, I see a helicopter over there! Great idea Dad! We all got in the helicopter and the blades on top began spinning and spinning faster and faster as the pilot got ready to lift up off the ground...hang on!

sing surprise Flat Swing hand one waves hand back 2-3 times and forth over over other the arm other like hand a music like a conductor Both hands pinched together beside eyes - quickly move them out & up into L hands We were all singing We re going to surprise our Grandma... surprise our Grandma! Right when we started to lift up off the ground, we were surprised when the helicopter went... (Grrrr...clunk...pishhh!)...and then sat back down on the ground.

rocket fly Make an R like a rocket - sit it on the back of your other hand - move it up...blastoff Both open hands going up and down like you have wings and are flying On no! The helicopter is out of gas! Don t worry, my Dad said, I see a rocket over there on the Launchpad. Let s see if we can get a ride. That s a great idea Dad! Have you ever wanted to be an astronaut and fly high in the sky? Let s run for the rocket!

ladder (climb) up Each hand takes turns climbing up the rungs of a pretend ladder Pointer finger sticking up in the air - quickly move We put on our space suits and climbed the ladder into the rocket. We were sitting waiting to blast off when the pilot started counting down we did too! 5...4...3...2...1...BLAST OFF! The rocket s engines started to roar and it began to shake. Just before we lifted up, up, up off the ground, the rocket went (Grrrr...clunk...pishhh!)

motorboat big Cup your hands together Move them forward in little spirts like a boat on waves L hands - start with touching thumbs and move them outward On no! The rocket is out of gas! Don t worry, my Dad said, I see a motorboat over there in the water - we need a big boat for all of us! Great idea Dad! We put on our big puffy life jackets and climbed into the big motorboat that has a big loud engine...varoom!

push clap Both hands flat with palms outward - start close to your body and push them out fast Deaf people clap without making noise - put your hands up and wiggle them We all helped push it away from the dock. We re going to Grandma s house in a motorboat! we sang and clapped. Won t Grandma be surprised when we pull up in a motorboat? She will clap for joy! Not far away from the dock, the motorboat chugged a little bit and then... (Grrrr...clunk...pishhh!)

balloon basket Cup hands around puckered mouth - blow while moving hands out making big balloon Palms up, pinkies together Make the shape of a curved basket with your hands On no! The motorboat is out of gas! Don t worry, my Dad said, I see a hot air balloon right over there - it s a beautiful day to take a balloon ride! Great idea Dad! After we paddled our motorboat back to the dock, we ran to the basket that was under the huge balloon and climbed in it.

fire question Hold hands with palms up Wiggle your fingers and move hands up & down Draw in the air what a question mark would look like =? Eyebrows down when you ask a question The fire from the blower above us was heating the air inside the balloon which would make it go up, up, up. We re going to Grandma s house in a hot air balloon! We were hanging on as we lifted up into the air. Only a few feet from the ground, I asked the pilot a very important question. What was the question?

yes family Make an S fist Shake it up and down like nodding your head Make two F hands - put thumbs together - make a family circle until pinkies touch Do we have enough gas to get us all the way to Grandma s house? We all held our breath, waiting for his answer. Yes! We have enough gas to get your entire family to your Grandma s house with plenty to spare...i promise! he said. Yeah! my family yelled and clapped!

forest sky One arm is horizontal - the other vertical with fingers spread and then wiggle them Wave a flat hand over your head while looking up Quietly, our balloon floated above the forest, rivers, streets and houses. From way up high in the sky I was the very first one to see Grandma s house. Grandma...we re coming! I yelled as we floated closer and closer to her house. The pilot softly landed the balloon in Grandma s front yard.

thank you knock Flat open hand - fingertips against chin and then let it fall forward Your fist knocks a couple times on the other flat hand which looks like a door We all climbed out of the basket and the balloon lifted up into the air. Thank you for the ride, we all shouted to the pilot as he floated away. We hurried to the front door of Grandma s house and knocked. She opened the door and with a big smile on her face she asked, What took you pokey puppies so long to get here?

smile pie Two pointer fingers draw a smile on your face starting on your chin upward Pretend your flat hand is a pie and your other hand is cutting it into pieces of pie Oh Grandma, we started in our car but it ran out of gas. Then we were in a taxi cab, an airplane, a helicopter, a rocket and a motorboat, but they all ran out of gas too. We finally made it here in a hot air balloon! Grandma smiled and said Oh my, it s time for pie. I don t want YOU to run out of gas too!
