Newsletter 3 Mar 2017 President Anne Migheli Vice President Susanne Kable Secretary Tammy Elbourne Treasurer Nigel Jones Registrar Chelley Johnstone Development C/O Mick Migheli C/Member Brian Coombs C/Member Neander Walsh C/Member Charles McShane Swimming New England & North West Inc swimmingnenw@gmail.com Welcome to March! So much is happening, all the very best to our Speedo squad for next weekend as they head off to Sydney. As a board we have finalized dates for Winter Sprints and Area SC Championships and are clarifying with referees to determine how many other Winter Dates we have available for Qualifying Meets. We are also busy coordinating our Presentation Night and AGM. This newsletter contains much information about a variety of topics. Please also consider we will be seeking Summer Meet dates in the next couple of months as well. Kind Regards Anne ATSCC Jeremy Deasey NENW Development Officer Pam Weste Presentation Night 6 th May 2017 Tamworth AGM 7th May 2017 Website http://www.newenglandnw nsw.swimming.org.au/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/ne wenglandnorthwestswimming Board Meeting 29 th March Presidents Meeting 30 th March Determine who will be your delegate for the AGM & Forum due 21 st April Give some thought to awards for a swimmer and a parent which can be presented at our Presentation Night Started educating parents and swimmers about Break time, Qualifying times. Picnic, Development and Qualifying Meets Determine who in your club is a school teacher or holds Cert IV Workplace Training, who after completing some paperwork can become an Assessor and Presenter Discuss within your club Technical Official training and who would like to look at which positions. Start thinking about your swimmers and determining if you would like a picnic, development or qualifying meet next summer. Paid your Area affiliation Fees Organise a Board member to attend the Presidents Meeting on the 30 th March at 8pm. Consider hosting Area SC Championships, nominating as a TO for Winter Sprints, nominating for a Directors position.

AGM The AGM will be held on the 7 th May 2016 at 11am Wests Diggers Leagues Club, Tamworth Becoming a Board member is a fantastic way of having a voice about what happens in our Area. With our Constitution we have 10 Board members who will then meet to fill the positions required to manage our Area. Clubs need to send a delegate to the AGM and Forum afterwards to gain preferences on the Area Meet calendar. The delegate CANNOT be a current Board member. With our new constitution nominations cannot be taken from the floor, they are required At the AGM, club delegates will either: to be sent in prior to the AGM. - agree to accept the nominations or - vote to determine the ten Board members based on the people who have nominated. Could clubs please start planning for our AGM and determine who their delegate or delegates will be (you may send more than one, only one can vote though) Important Dates 31 st March Director, Service Award and Life membership nominations due 21 st April Delegate nominations due Office of Fair Trading Information Very important information from the Office of Fair Trading - The Office of Fair Trading is waiving fees to update your Club Constitution prior to September 2017. Is your Constitution dated prior to 2011? Does your club name have the word "Amateur" included in it? Have you been submitting annual returns to Fair Trading? Do you know who your Public Officer is? If you need any help or have any questions please contact Pam Weste Don't keep putting it off as it may cost your club $$$ the longer you leave it.

Presentation Night Presentation Night will be held on the 6 th May at Tamworth 2017. We are currently investigating the cost of a smorgasbord to keep costs reasonable. Tickets will be available online ASAP for the night. Please join us for a great night of socialising and celebration. The night will begin from 5 until 9pm. We will be awarding Age Champions and Runner Ups, record Holders and development Participation Certificates. Please consider a member of your club swimmer and non-swimmer (parent) who are worthy of a special award. Development 2017 development details are currently being finalised. Swimmers who swam at the Area LC Championships are eligible to participate. The squads have age and other criteria that the swimmers must meet. This will be finalised and sent to all clubs for distribution in the following weeks. At this stage proposed development days are: 20 th /21 st May Senior / Junior Target, Achievers Squads 27 th / 28 th May Alpha squads 29 th / 30 th July Target Squad Meet 23 rd /24 th September National A squad 7 th October Achiever Squad Meet These dates are tentative until we know the size of each squad and the pool facilities available. Swimming NSW have changed the structure of the development days this year, so our days although reduced in number will be longer and the sessions will be more involved on those days.

2. Training your Technical Officials By now you should be aware technical officials are a vital part of our Area and are required to ensure every swimmer is given the best and fair opportunity to show what they are capable of. Swimming NSW has module training notes and exercises; which provide you with a great background about each position. https://nsw.swimming.org.au/page.php?id=139 National Officiating Accreditation Program (NOAP) Learner Guides: The Swimming Australia Participation and Sport Development Unit and Swimming Australia Technical Swimming Committee, have recently updated the Learner Guides for the National Officiating Accreditation Program (NOAP) Learner Guides: These new learner guides have been updated to reflect stronger officiating principles to assist technical officials with their understanding. As per Australian Sports Commission (ASC) requirements, these guides have been refreshed to be more contemporary and have also been updated in line with recent changes to FINA rules. These Guides now also allow Technical Officials to work at their own pace with information easier to comprehend for technical officials at any level or experience. https://nsw.swimming.org.au/page.php?id=151 Then: Swimming NSW now has online modules for: - Judge of Stroke - Inspector of Turns - Marshal - Check starter - Timekeeper, @ https://nswtraining.swimming.org.au which allow you to take the theory component of the course at your time. Assessors and Presenters Are an important component of this as well, these people can present the technical official program and assess someone s competence in a role for each position they are accredited in. If you are a school teacher or currently hold a CERT IV in workplace training and assessment, rather than completing the course you may simple complete some paperwork and gain this credential. This will then allow you to work with your club to up-skill your technical officials. Please contact ATSCC (swimmingnenwatscc@gmail.com) or Area (swimmingnenw@gmail.com) for the link. The Area is currently putting together a proposal which will give points to a club for the Technical officials they can supply to host a Qualifying Meet and these clubs will be given preference on the number of points they have. We need to urgently address the number of Technical Officials we have

Winter Sprints This year the Board decided to host the Winter Sprint Series. We have not held this meet for a number of years. Muswellbrook Amateur RSL Youth Swimming Club have volunteered to work with us in hosting the event. This meet is open to swimmers aged 7 to 12 years as at the 1 st May 2017. Each swimmer may enter the 50m Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Backstroke events. Times will be uploaded to the national database and sent to swimming NSW where they will be analysed with other Area results to determine the top ten places. Entries are now open and can be found on our Area website: http://www.newenglandnwnsw.swimming.org.au/ Entries will close Friday 5 th May 2017 5pm. We also need Technical Officials to run this meet, please see our Area website to download a nomination form or the attachment to the email. Dear Clubs Area SC Championships We would like to invite Clubs in the Area to consider nominating to host the 2017 Swimming NENW Area Short Course Championships. The date that has been selected for this meet is the 12th and 13th August 2017. Clubs have been emailed a copy of the nomination form to host this event. This form also has a detailed list of what is required and what each club is responsible for to make them eligible to host the meet. Nominations for this event should be sent to the Secretary SNENW before 5.00pm Monday 27th March 2017.
