Maintaining the equipments is performing a regular check up. Such as checking the engine and transmission oil, greasing, tire pressure of Zamboni, the walk around of the equipment to see if there is any loose or abnormal parts, and much more. It is very important to the staff of Parks and Rec to ensure our equipments are being maintained and that all equipments are to code. We ensure the safety of our workers is priority by taking 15 to 20 min to inspect the equipments. Ice Audits: A weekly Ice Audit is being recorded to ensure the Ice is averaging 1.75 inches thick. This is the TSSA requirements to ensure the safety and health of our skaters. (The time spent on ice audits approximately take 2 hours. Zamboni: The Zamboni is always being utilized on the ice after each ice use or on any ice maintenance. Edging of the Ice: (The edger is equipment that we utilize to shave down the ice around the boards where the Zamboni is unable to reach. We edge the ice approximately ounce a week if needed, depending of the ice surface conditions. ( The time spent is approximately 3 hours) Hose Flood: A hose Flood is performed every week, on Friday s. The importance of a hose flood is the water fills in the deep skate marks and levels off the low spots. This process keeps the ice surface smooth and healthy for curling on Friday nights. (This process take approximately 2 hours and another hour for the water to harden) Curling: Is the most demanding hours in ice maintenance and preparation. The steps are: 1) edge the ice 2) Apply the Zamboni to pick up the extra ice from edging 3) Hose Flood 4) Cut the Ice with Zamboni (this process levels the ice and gives it a smooth surface). Monthly Report Page 3
5) Pebble four ice sheets 6) Put the stones down 7) Install the eight hacks onto the ice and drill a hole in the center of each Curling ring. Than last, put up 4 score boards. (The preparation of curling approximately takes 6 to 8 hours, depending on ice conditions).
