THE MOST EXTENSIVE PROTOTYPE PROCESS IN BLIZZARD S 70-YEAR HISTORY. THE BLIZZARD FREERIDE PROCESS Blizzard Flipcore technology revolutionized the freeride category in 2010. Since then, we ve come to better understand how different people ski and have built our 2017-18 collection to meet the specific needs and wants of today s all-mountain and freeride skiers. Everything is new: new molds, new materials, new processes and new Flipcore technologies. This effort represents the most extensive development and testing prototype program in Blizzard s 70-year history. The result isn t just a better ski, it s a total transformation of the skier experience. 4
LISTENING IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS To properly develop our new Freeride collection, we embarked on the most extensive prototyping and testing process in our history. The demands of today s skiers are greater and more diverse than ever before. This process demanded that we test, adjust and retest with the widest possible range of skiers. From Freeride World Tour Champions to ski shop employees, Alaskan heli guides to our Women to Women initiative, Blizzard s internal product development team received layer upon layer of critical input that validated this new collection. Listening, learning and innovating are the keys to bringing this process and this collection to life. BODACIOUS ARNE BACKSTROM FREE TO INSPIRE In 2009, Arne Backstrom, ski alpinist and overall freeride skiing phenomenon, approached the Blizzard development team with an inspiration for a new way to design and build a rockered ski. A gifted athlete with an equal talent for envisioning how engineering and technology can improve product function, Arne knew that while rockered skis ripped in deep, powdery snow, they failed to perform in all other conditions. His insights led to the development of Flipcore technology, which revolutionized how rockered skis were built. Thanks to Arne s vision, Blizzard was able to introduce what is now the most popular, best-selling family of freeride skis in the world. ATHLETE INSPIRED SKIS SPUR THE SPUR FREE TO EXPERIENCE The Spur has become synonymous with powder skiing and for 2017/18 we have taken that meaning to a whole new level. In an attempt to search for the ultimate powder experience, Blizzard has committed to a project that will allow our engineers to push the boundaries of ski design to develop the ultimate powder ski. This will be an ongoing project that is a collaboration between our design team and our athlete and ambassador teams. The new Spur is a total modernization of the traditional powder ski and is unlike anything we have ever done before. We approached the Spur design using inspiration from surfboard shapes because true powder is in many ways, similar to water. So much of what you see is based on Hydro-Dynamics. ALL-MOUNTAIN FREERIDE UNISEX Developed from a more traditional hard snow and carved turn shape approach, the All-Mountain Freeride collection has specifically designed technologies, constructions, sidecuts and rocker profiles that deliver a perfect all-mountain experience in all types of snow conditions. The Blizzard Quattro Rocker Concept is made up of four different rocker configurations ranging from 0mm to 6mm of tip and tail rocker. As the performance level of each model increases, the amount of rocker decreases. More rocker promotes easier entry and exit of the turn making the skis easier to use and easier to control. Less rocker increases the precision and power. The construction of a ski refers to the inside components, such as wood, polyurethane, fiberglass or metal (Titanal). The skis construction controls both the stability and level of performance. Within the Blizzard Quattro collection, we use seven specifically designed constructions to optimize the level of stability and performance for every type of skier. WORKSHOPS Women to Women is an ongoing global initiative whose mission is to offer authentic women s products and engage with the women s skiing community by sharing experiences and celebrating our passion for the sport. Our goal is to develop and grow a community of women who believe in, and are proud to be associated with, the Blizzard and Tecnica brands. TREVISO, ITALY: November 2015 - An analysis tool developed by Stanford University, Design Thinking, was used to discover value maps, wants and needs, with the goal of finding solutions to fulfill them. PARK CITY, UT: December 2015 & December 2016 - Testing skis followed by hours of discussion and collaboration with our Project 165 group of boot fitters allowed us a deep dive into issues facing women and their equipment. We then challenged our product design teams to solve for things like lightness, performance, fit, comfort, warmth and balance and stance. We partnered with the University of Verona and conducted bio-mechanical, on-snow research that focused on the basic anatomical position of women on their skis. This research further helped our designers develop products that are more specifically balanced and customized for women. The resulting products will make each woman s on-snow experience more comfortable, less stressful and more fun! WOMEN TO WOMEN: Products specifically designed by women, for women. PORTILLO, CHILE: AUGUST 2016 Our first all-female athlete summit convened with more product testing and lengthy discussions about how to engage the female skiing community. These women are at the top of their games, yet they continue to challenge themselves and strive to learn new things. Jackie taught Claire how to huck cliffs; Angelika and Brenna compared notes on teaching methods between Austria and the USA. At the end of the week, we came to a few key conclusions: 1. We need to be approachable - inclusive not exclusive. 2. Women want to learn, try new things, be challenged and be inspired. 3. Women want to be knowledgeable, in charge and in control of their experiences. 4. Women want to share their knowledge and experiences. Our goal is to continue to develop great products for women and to educate, inspire and connect with the female skiing community so that we can all share in this great experience of skiing. 26

PROJECT 165 It became clear to Tecnica that we needed to assemble the right people, sit face-to-face and discuss what is necessary to make the best fitting, best performing boots on the market. The result is Project 165, a council of forward-thinking, highly experienced boot fitters who help Tecnica set new standards in performance, comfort and innovation. Project 165 is an ongoing inspirational experience. Inspirational in that our ideas are thoughtfully discussed, thoroughly pondered, and mostly implemented. Many times in thinktank situations, comments are asked for and more times than not completely ignored. Project 165 is the antithesis of this. TEN.2 SPORT PERFORMANCE The Ten.2 series is our sport performance line of boots that delivers an anatomical mid/high volume fit. These boots are for the customer seeking the perfect balance between performance, comfort and price. The i-rebound system features a metal plate that attaches the cuff to the lower part of the shell. Extremely progressive forward flexing and an appreciably elastic return when changing edge. Very stable rear support. CUFF ADAPTER The rear spoiler of the Ten.2 woman series lets the cuff open 12 mm (3 ). Simple, safe and comfortable to use. Less pressure on the calf. A shaped soft plastic component at the instep (larger than the Quick InStep) with a zip makes it incredibly easy to step into and out of the ski boot.
