ROCKYVIEW LACROSSE NEWSLETTER Changing the Game Project Over the last few months you ve probably noticed on our Twitter and Facebook pages a lot of posts from Changing the Game Project. We listened to a speaker from the project at the ALA AGM in November and were completely inspired! We learned so much about how our actions as parents, coaches, managers, board members, etc are affecting the longevity of kids playing sports. 70% of children drop out of organized athletics by the age of 13! I m sure most of us grew up playing sports or being active all through High School so to hear that kids are not being active past the age of 13 is so sad. We are wanting to change that! The CDLA has invited the Changing the Game Project for our coaches and parents to attend! The times are TBD but there will be 2 sessions on April 8 th (also our Fun Day) and 1 session on April 9 th. Youth Sports has become an ultracompetitive, adult centered enterprise that has taken the play out of play ball for far too many kids, but we can change that. Glen Mulcahy will be doing presentations for Calgary District Lacrosse where you will learn; -Changing the Game: How to keep kids in sports! -Leadership secrets from the world s greatest coaches & organizations Glen Mulcahy is a former youth athlete who played on three provincial winning teams in hockey, football and rugby, completed a degree in Physical Education (Kinesiology major) and has now coached various sports for over 20 years. Since 2009 he has also been a coach mentor in his role as BC Hockey Course Facilitator running Hockey Canada s NCCP required clinics and has now certified 1000 s of coaches both in the recreational and competitive streams. Glen is also a parent of two kids that have played recreational and competitive sports since 2000 and as a result of the numerous issues that he has seen first hand that has taken the play out of youth sports, he founded PARADIGM Sports to work with parents, coaches and executive members so we can bring the game back to the kids.where it belongs.

FUN DAY! Coaching Mentorship Rockyview Lacrosse is holding their annual Fun Day on Saturday, April 8 th! Every team will get to play a game and get their team and individual pictures taken. We have food, vendors and great lacrosse games going all day! Our Jr B Silvertips will have 50/50 s, prizes, stick stringing and more! Rockyview Lacrosse has invited Andrew McBride out to our Fun Day and host some coaching mentorships sessions. We will schedule coaches in around the times they will already be at Genesis. More details to be release soon! If you are interested in coaching this year, it s not too late! Please contact Keith at coach@rockyviewlacrosse.ca. When will my season start? A common question once registration ends is, when will my kids start playing? Aside from the evaluation schedule which is on our website, this is an idea of when you will start practices: Girls Teams March 22nd A Teams March 26 th B Teams Week of April 3 rd C Teams Week of April 3 rd Novice Teams Week of April 3 rd Tyke Teams Week of April 3 rd Mini Tyke Teams Week of April 3 rd
