Keowee Angler 2018 Tournament Descriptions and Schedule Revised 11/10/2017 For 2018 Keowee Anglers will run the following tournaments. 4 Random-Match Team Tournaments: April, May, October, November Random-Match Team-Member of the Year Longest Fish of 2018 Competitions 2018 Bass Team-Tournament Information Random-Team bass tournaments are scheduled: April 4-5, May 2-3, October 3-4, and November 7-8. (NOTE: Our November meeting, the Awards luncheon for the November tournament, is NOT on the first Thursday of November, but falls on the second Thursday in November!) The Partners are randomly assigned, with one exception: if a member has brought a new member into the Club, that member may request to fish with that new member in the first tournament in which they both fish. Any violation of tournament rules below automatically disqualifies a team s catch. The tournament registration deadline is Monday midnight two weeks before the tournament. Participants will be informed of their team partners on the following day. Each tournament has two components, event team prizes for the longest bass caught in the event, and team scores for the Random-Match Team-Member-of-the-Year contest (prizes issued at end of the year). The tournament director will match the most experienced anglers as partners with the least-experienced anglers as we are a learning/teaching club; and will match members without boats to those with boats. If a registered participant must drop out for any reason, the remaining team member may not fish alone. The Tournament Director will try to find an alternate partner for the remaining team member. Team members should make every attempt to match schedules and practice fishing as much as possible. No pre-fishing / practice nor electronic scouting is allowed on the day the team fishes for the tournament before they start fishing their four hours. Fishing Time - Each team picks its own, one and only one, 4-consecutive-hour fishing time during the Wednesday or Thursday of the tournament ending no later than Noon on Thursday. The team s 4 hours starts when a lure hits the water or they start using their electronics for scouting. No fishing or electronic scouting is allowed on designated tournament days EXCEPT during the team s chosen 4-hour tournament time. (GPS may be used to navigate to a team s starting point.) Bass (largemouth, spots, smallmouth or red eye) must have a minimum length of 12 inches to qualify. 1

Fish must be measured rounded down to the nearest 1/4 inch using a ruler with a vertical stop and ¼-inch graduations, with the bass mouth closed, nose against the vertical stop, and the tail pinched for maximum length. Each team member is limited to two rods at a time and each rod used for trolling needs to be designated as to which team member is fishing with it. If an Alabama or umbrella rig, or similar device is used, it cannot have more than two baits/lures that contain hook(s). If the rig has more than two arms, then all additional lures/baits on the rig must not have any hooks. Team results must be submitted by the beginning of the Awards Luncheon on the Official Tournament Result Form emailed to the registrants and each team member must sign the form for the catch to count. Each team must record the length of each bass caught by each team member, identify the up to 3 legal bass caught by one team member and up to 2 legal bass caught by the other team member for the team s total 5-bass catch. Culling is allowed. If a team member hooks a fish and hands of the rod to his partner to land, the catch cannot be counted among his partner s fish. Tournament longest-single-bass prizes are awarded to each team member. Longest bass receives $30, 2 place $25, 3 place $20, 4 place $15, 5 place $10, and 6 place $5. In nd rd th th th case of a tie the prize money for each of the tied positions is pooled and shared equally by team members. For these tournaments there will be no tiebreaker. Teams tied for a particular prize in a tournament will share that prize and the next lower prize(s). Each team s total catch by the 3-2 rule will be used to score the Random-Match Team- Member of the Year Tournament described below. Awards Luncheon starts at 1 PM on the Thursday of the tournament. Members who sign up for the luncheon are responsible to pay for their own food even if they don t attend. To qualify for a tournament award, at least one member of the team must attend the luncheon and be prepared to share how the team caught their bass. If both are not available, the team submits to the tournament director before the award luncheon their filled-in and signed official result form and a detailed written description of where/when/how they caught their fish. NOTE: it is expected that when one team member s boat is used exclusively by the team, the team member whose boat is not used, as a thank you, will pay for that boat owner s lunch at the Award Luncheon. If there is a weather delay or other change of date, the Tournament Director will email all participants by 9 PM the Tuesday of the tournament week any changes to the tournament, presentation of awards or luncheon. If the Thursday luncheon isn t changed people who signed up for the luncheon will be responsible for paying for a lunch if they do not show. 2

Random-Match Team Member of the Year 2018 The Random-Match Team Member of the Year awards recognize the individual Keowee Anglers with the best, accumulated team scores during 3 of the 4 team tournaments. The Random-Match Team Member of the Year is a stratified competition. Members are stratified once a year before the first tournament. Stratum A contains the Keowee Anglers members presumed to be the better anglers because they have won the most prize money, caught more tournament fish or have distinguished themselves in some other way. Stratum B contains all new members and any renewed members who have won little or no prize money from the club in previous years. The list of member strata for the year will be published in advance of the first tournament of the year. For each stratum there will be 4 prizes: 1 st Prize of $30, 2 nd Prize of $25, 3 rd Prize of $20, and 4 th prize $15 to be awarded at the regular Club meeting in December. Each random-match team includes a member from each stratum to the extent possible. Each team records the length of each bass caught by each individual team member, identifies up to 3 legal bass caught by one team member and up to 2 legal bass caught by the other team member and reports this information on the Official Tournament Result Form submitted for each tournament. (NOTE: if one team member has caught 3 bass, and gets another on the line, that member may not hand the rod to their partner in the boat to land. However, the team member may land the 4 th fish and use that 4 th fish to cull a smaller fish from the original 3 to increase the size of that angler s 3 best bass.) The team results from each tournament will be added together to create the cumulative score for each member as follows: Each Team Member will be assigned their team score for each event as described above. Keowee Anglers members will use up to 3 tournament scores. If a member fishes in all 4 tournaments, then the Tournament Director will use the best 3 of their 4 scores. 3

Keowee Anglers Longest Fish of 2018 Competitions Each year, Keowee Anglers runs for its members a Longest Fish competition for any fish species. All fish must be legal length for the species and caught this year by legal means in Lake Keowee between January 1 and December 31 inclusive. Photographs are required for entries. The picture must include the entire fish, head to tail and the ruler WITH VERTICAL STOP AND ¼-INCH GRADUATIONS you used to make the measurement with the nose of the fish against the stop and with the ruler markings legible near the tail. For measurement you may pinch the tail to maximize the length. A second picture with you holding the fish is not required, but is more interesting as a web site photo if you can take and submit such a picture without harming the fish. NOTE: This competition is related to the Random-match Team Tournaments by the principle that no fish will qualify for two cash prizes. So any bass that wins a cash prize in any of the Random-Match Team Tournaments during the year is disqualified from this competition. Any fish, including a bass, that is caught during the Random-Match Team Tournaments and does not win a cash prize at that tournament may be submitted for this Longest Fish of the Year competition, as long as its entry is accompanied by the required picture. Prizes for fish caught this year will be awarded for each species at next year s January meeting. The Bass category includes the following species in a single category: Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Red-eye Bass, and related crossbreeds. In the Bass category, a cash prize of $30 for the longest bass, $25 for 2 nd longest bass, 3 rd though 10 th longest bass $20, and 11 th through 20 th places $15. In other fish species categories, 1 st place winners will receive $15 and 2 nd place winners $10. Each angler is limited to submitting only their best fish in each species category, though they can submit an entry for any number of categories. If you catch a game fish that is not in one of the categories below, send the required picture with ruler to Bill anyway, and we will create a new category. Largemouth/Spotted/Redeye/cross-breed Bass Smallmouth Bass White Bass Crappie Sunfish Catfish Carp Perch Trout In any case of issues or challenges, the decision of the Tournament Director is final. 4
