Performance Information for June 2013 Our Recital DIVAS is scheduled for Sunday, June 2nd, 2013 at Westlake High School. The mandatory dress rehearsal at Westlake High School is on either Wednesday, May 29 th or Saturday, June 1 st depending on your dancer s class. Westlake High School is located at 4100 Westbank Drive and the PAC is located in the building closest to Loop 360 with a large parking lot in front of the entrance. All students who wish to perform on Sunday must be at the dress rehearsal. If a student is absent on Wednesday and/or Saturday the dancers will learn new formations and will dance without the absent dancer. Please be aware that the dress rehearsal is in preparation for the recital. All students who attend will be needed for the actual recital on Sunday. It is always difficult to explain this to parents. The dancers have unique places on stage and an absent dancer places all the other dancers in jeopardy. So PLEASE, if you attend the dress rehearsal, realize that the class is counting on you. In addition, there will be no regular classes at the studio on Wednesday, May 29th or Saturday, June 1 st (except for the combo 2-3 yr class). There is no admission charge for the dress rehearsal or recital but all students must have paid a $55 per dancer or $85 per family performance fee with May tuition AND all tuition for the year. Our Spring semester will end with our June 2nd recital. When you arrive at dress rehearsal students will check-in at the finance table and any outstanding amounts must be paid before students will be escorted to their designated dressing room. Please review the attached schedule. Note that the rehearsal time is not the same as the recital time. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your rehearsal and recital times in full costume with make-up and hair complete wearing a cover-up. On dress rehearsal day, your dancer will be dismissed after their dance (not the end of the show). On recital day, all dancers will be dismissed after the end of each show. Each show will last about 1 hour and 45 mins. Students will stay back stage for the entire show. If you cannot stay for the entire show please do not plan to attend and advise the teacher accordingly. Please be respectful of your dancer s class and arrive on time to dress rehearsal and the recital. Everyone s time is very valuable and it is unfair to expect the teachers and back stage parents to hold a class of students late while waiting for a tardy student. Each student should arrive no later than 30 minutes before their scheduled time! This allows time for them to get back stage without stress and do their very best at the performance. This is very important and I can t stress enough how important being on time is to our students because late arrivals cause stress to the other parents, teachers and most importantly to all of the students especially your own child. For the safety of all dancers no parents, siblings or others will be allowed to go back stage for any reason. There must be one stage parent for each class. The stage parent will stay with the class and bring them all to and from the stage. The stage parent must be the same person for BOTH the dress rehearsal and recital. We will acquire a list of stage parents in the next few weeks so PLEASE volunteer if you would like to be back stage with your dancer. It is with your help that we will be able to care for the dancers and produce an enjoyable show for all. You WILL be able to watch the class as they perform! Stage parent information will be emailed out separately. Slide show: The pre-show will include a slide show of dancers who have been with Synergy for 5 or more years. Please send a j-peg of your dancer so that we may include them in the show. Be sure to include the correct spelling of the name of the dancer and the number of years that they have danced. We must have all names and pictures by May 15th in order to produce the slide show.
Recital program ads: Program ads will be sold for our recital program. Ads can be purchased in 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 and full page increments to show your support for your dancer or advertise your business. Camera ready ads can be emailed to Ms. Sherrie, please see the attached sample page and order form for more information. Deadline for ad submissions is May 15th. In Class Dress Rehearsal: The week of pictures Saturday, May 18th -Friday, May 24th, the dancers will have an in studio dress rehearsal day in which they will wear their costumes to class with proper hair and accessories. Make up is not required for this in class dress rehearsal but light make up for pictures is acceptable. More information about pictures will be available soon. Costumes: A recital notebook is available in the lobby that has detail specific tight, shoe, costume and accessory information. In general we will provide costumes and accessories and each dancer is responsible to purchase the appropriate color Bloch tights and proper shoes. Tights can be bought from Dancer s Closet, Movin Easy or online but must be professional Bloch brand dance tights. Notes for costume: Hair, shoes, tights, accessories Make up: Dancers must wear make-up. The lights on the stage are bright and will wash out the dancer s facial features. Please wear a base or powder bronzer on the face that is one shade darker than the skin (especially important for lighter complexions). For the eyes wear a dark brown eye shadow darkest at the lash line gradually fading up to the brow bone with a light color on the brow bone to highlight just below the eye brow. Apply a thin line of dark brown shadow for combo dancers or eyeliner for older dancers from the middle of the lower lash line out past the corner of the eye. Mascara is optional. For cheeks apply pink blush and for lips apply red lipstick. SDC dancers are required to wear full stage make up including eyeliner and mascara. I will be placing a picture in the lobby for parents to refer to as needed. Stage make up is only required for dress rehearsal and recital at Westlake High School. I recommend only light, natural make up for in studio pictures. Cover ups: All dancers must wear a cover up over the costumes at all times that includes between home and the studio for pictures and in studio dress rehearsal and between home and Westlake High School for the performance. Cover ups are very important because they protect the costumes from dirt and damage. A men s dress shirt works nicely because it buttons up the front and is long enough to protect the entire costume. Other important information: *Please be sure to wear your costume, shoes and accessories to the dress rehearsal and the recital. No accessory may be worn unless the entire class is wearing it. If someone forgets an accessory the entire class must remove that accessory. *Label everything with your dancer s name. *Hair should be slicked back from the face with gel, hairspray and bobby pins. Please no bangs or whispies. *Costumes should not be worn before the recital for play and need to be hung up immediately. Hang all net costumes/tutus upside down. *No panties should be worn with tights for costumes. *Video and non-flash photography are allowed at dress rehearsal only, no video or photographs of any kind are allowed during the recital. Videos of the recital will be for sale and order forms are attached. During dress rehearsal the first two rows of the audience will be reserved for parents to use for pictures and video. Please be respectful of other audience members and do not block the aisle or obstruct the view.
