Conducted by the Welsh Pony & Cob Society of Aust Inc. Guidelines for Judges & Exhibitors What is the Ridden Native Pony Championship: The Welsh Pony and Cob Society of Australia Inc. (WP&CS of Aust. Inc.) has set up the Ridden Native Pony Championship to encourage ridden classes for the British Mountain and Moorland breeds, Australian, Haflinger and Fjord ponies. The WP&CS of Aust. Inc. will support classes at Agricultural and WP&CS of Aust. Inc. run events which will be qualifiers for the Ridden Native Pony Championships. The highest placed pony of each breed in the class will qualify for the Championships. Currently there is no qualifying requirement for the championships. Why should I participate in the championship The championship gives the owners of native ponies the opportunity to compete against other Native breeds without Riding ponies & Galloway s which are specifically bred for the open ring. How the classes will work: The entrants are judged by 2 judges, one judge will judge the entrants under saddle for manners, paces & workout, the other in hand for conformation and adherence to the breed standards. The entrants will all work under saddle on the ring together initially as per a standard saddle class, with approximately a circle each of walk, trot & canter. All entrants will then line up. The entrants present one at a time to the saddle judge & perform the standard ridden workout. Upon finishing the standard ridden workout, each entrant returns to the lineup up where it is immediately stripped by its strapper. The entrants then present immediately to the in hand judge, present & then complete the standard in hand workout. The exhibit is re-saddled by the strapper and rejoins the line up. Each judge awards each exhibit a mark out of 50. The ridden judge awards up to 20 points for manners & paces & up to 30 points for the workout. The in hand judge awards up to 20 points for conformation & freedom of action, up to 30 points for breed standards. The Steward will then add together the Ridden Phase & In hand Phase points, the winner is the exhibit that gets the highest total marks. Based on the experience in the United Kingdom, the classes should take about the same time as other ridden classes as the 2 judges are judging at the same time. Once the qualification becomes a requirement there will be Qualifying Cards which must be given to the highest place in each class of each breed, unless they hold a previous Qualifying Card for that season, in this instance the Qualifying Card goes to the next highest place. What do I need to know as an Exhibitor? You need to ensure that your Native pony is registered with the relevant breed society & is 4 years old & over. Understand the Regulations for the Ridden Native Pony Championships. Familiarize the In hand & Saddle Workout. Presentation of a Native pony is similar to a Ridden Welsh, with no plaiting, plain leather browbands, bit type is optional, no spurs. Attire of riders must be neat & tidy show ring wear; tweed coats are not compulsory but encouraged. Ensure your strapper is neatly attired, attentive to ensure that your pony is stripped & re-saddled efficiently. What do I need to know as a judge? Ensure you familiarize the breed standards provided for each eligible breed. Understand the Regulations & Scoring Sheets for the Ridden Native Pony Championships, these must be enforced. As a judge, ensure that you have a copy of the Regulations & Scoring Sheets & brief your steward prior to commencing classes. Familiarize the In hand & Saddle Workout WP & CS of Australia Inc. Handbook 2013 Ridden Native Pony Championships 1 P a g e

Before commencing judging, both judges need to ensure that there is a suitable area in the ring to judge both phases & work out relevant areas to be utilised. Attire of riders must be neat & tidy show ring wear; similar to that of a show hunter rider. Encourage strappers to be neatly attired. Ensure all Qualifying Cards are given to the relevant exhibits (highest placing of each breed in each class). Please refer to the Guidelines for the finals of The Ridden Native Pony Championships. The Society will provide: As a selected Panel Judge, the Society will give you a copy of the Ridden Native Pony Championship handbook including the regulations, the breed descriptions for the ponies eligible to compete in the championship, score sheets & a copy of the workouts. Regulations The British mountain and moorland breeds (Connemara, Dale, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Fells, Highland, New Forest, Shetland and the Welsh breeds) Australian ponies, Fjord & Haflinger ponies are eligible to compete in the Ridden Native Pony classes. All animals entered in this class will be judged under saddle & then stripped for judging in hand (2 judges one for the workout & the other for breed type and conformation) Each judge awards each exhibit a mark out of 50. The ridden judge awards up to 20 points for manners & paces & up to 30 points for the workout. The in hand judge awards up to 20 points for conformation & freedom of action, up to 30 points for breed standards. In the case of equality of points, the exhibit with the highest marked breed standards will be deemed the winner. All entrants should ensure they have a strapper available for the in-hand component of the class to assist removing saddlery and to re-saddle. Strappers should be neatly attired. All exhibits are to be 4 years and over and registered with the respective breed society, Proof of registration may be requested and must be shown on demand. All exhibits are to be shown unplaited. A bridle path plait is permitted. Correct riding attire, including an approved helmet that meets current Australian safety standards. Spurs are not permitted. Fall of rider is disqualification. Whips are permitted, but must not exceed 75 centimetres, excluding the tail. The organizing committee reserves the right to divide classes, depending on entries. The judge s decision is final. Exhibitors entering exhibits do so entirely at their own risk; it is a condition of entry that no liability of any kind attaches itself to the WP&CS, the Show Sub-committee or members in any respect whatsoever. All exhibits must compete drug free. Random swabbing may take place in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the WP&CS, which are in accordance with EFA standards. Riders and handlers of stallions and colts are to be 16 years and over on the first day of the show. An exhibitor may lodge a protest against a competitor/judge. Protests must be lodged in writing with the Show Secretary within 3 hours of the disputed action, accompanied by a fee of $100, which will be forfeited if not upheld. In the first instance protests must be dealt with by the Show Sub-committee which may refer the matter to the Committee of Management of the WP&CS. Any person who has a protest lodged against him or her has the right of reply. Any expenses incurred by any party to the said protests shall be borne by that party.
