W O M E N S B A S K E T B A L L Union in the NAIA Tournament - 21 years (1988-89, 1992-2010), 59-16.787 NAIA Records: 19 straight national tournaments, 21 total appearances Union is coming off a 66-49 win at Mar n Methodist (Tenn.) last Saturday. Their home game on Thursday was postponed because of snow. The win at Mar n Methodist was the 15th win on the season for Union against a team that was either ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA rankings. Union held Mar n Methodist to just 49 points in the game. Mar n Methodist entered the game as the No. 2 team in the NAIA with 87 points per game. Union put four players in double figures in the win led by Sarah Chan with 17 points. Union is led this season by Sarah Chan with 21.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. No. 1 Union claims another top 10 victory in tussle with No. 5 Freed Hardeman JACKSON, Tenn. 1/15/2011 The Union (Tenn.) University women s basketball team posted a 76 65 win over No. 5 Freed Hardeman (Tenn.) University in front of a full Fred DeLay Gymnasium Crowd. It was the 10th time in their 17 total games that Union has faced a top 10 opponent at the time of the contest. Union is 5 0 against teams that currently remain in the top 10. Union extending their winning streak to 22 straight games, going 17 0 overall and 4 0 in league play. Freed Hardeman dropped to 13 4 on the season and 2 1 in league play. The win for Union was also their 55th straight TranSouth regular season win and 11th straight home win. The last home loss for Union was a loss to Freed Hardeman in last season s conference tournament, snapping a 60 game Union home winning streak. The game not only featured two of the NAIA s top 5 teams, but also matched up the nation s top two scorers. Freed Hardeman s Meribeth Boehler entered the game No. 1 in the NAIA in scoring (24.3). Union s Sarah Chan entered the game second in the nation at 22.6 points per game. Boehler finished with 17 points and four rebounds in 36 minutes of play. The Lady Lions got as close as two points at 43 41 before Union extended their cushion back to eight points, 52 44. Union led by six points, 62 56, late in the half when Kayla Hudson scored two of her game high 27 points. That basketball sparked a 9 1 Union run that extended their lead to 14 points, 71 57, with three minutes to go. Union made 5 of 7 free throws down the stretch to secure the 76 65 win. Union was led by Hudson s 27 points, including four three pointers and seven assists. Chan added 19 points and Lavanda Ross scored 13 points. Hope Adams added a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Union shot 48 percent from the field, 26 percent (5 19) from long range and 88 percent (15 17) from the free throw line. Freed Hardeman was led by Boehler and Natalie Shumpert with 17 points each. Leslie Morgan added 15 points, including a season high five three pointers.
