Pennant News A Grade Pennant 2016 The TBGC Senior Pennant Team has a bye for the first round at TBGC. The team for Round 2 at Karuah has been announced and is available in the Pro Shop, Clubhouse and on the TBGC website. Good luck gentlemen. Super Senior Pennant 2016 After months of trying to fill a Super Senior Pennant team, we managed at the very last minute to field 8 players on the park on Sunday February 1 st for Round 1. The team consisted of John Gresham (captain), Ron McKay, Phil Richards, Bob Gordon, Bryan Porter, Arthur Hughes, Ray Beverley and Ces Plumb. Tanilba Bay was up against Nelson Bay. Nelson Bay s highest handicapper was four shots below our number 1 player so our team were certainly against the odds. We ended up losing 7 ½ matches to ½. However, our boys were happy with how they played. Ces Plumb said he played his best game of golf ever and would have had 45 points if he were playing Stableford but lost his match 4/3. That s how tough the competition was. John Gresham squared his match after being 5 down on the 11 th hole. There is no giving up for a man who has fought a shark!!! Congratulations to all players for representing TBGC. Masters Pennant 2016 starts on 24 th April. If you are over 50 years of age and would like to play, please see Martin in the Pro Shop and he will fill out an Expression of Interest with you and fill you in with the details.
Junior News MyGolf is Australia s national junior introductory program to develop and promote participation in golf. It is endorsed by both Golf Australia and the PGA of Australia. TBGC was registered as a MyGolf Centre a couple of years ago and our Junior Golf Clinic followed the principles of the program - to introduce kids to the sport of golf in a fun and simple manner. We have now formally registered the Clinic as a MyGolf Program and are delivering our first structured 10 week introductory program. This has allowed us to access advertising on the MyGolf website and has provided further opportunities for promotion and access to extensive resources. As we were one of the first 100 centres in NSW to register our program, Golf NSW donated a MyGolf Kit to the club. This kit is worth hundreds of dollars and will go a long way to contributing to junior development within TBGC. Hopefully you have noticed the MyGolf banner displayed at the entrance of the Golf Club. This banner has been lent to us from Golf Australia for a one month period to help promote the Club as a My- Golf Centre to passing traffic. The banner had only been up for one day and we received a new participant registration, so it obviously works. If anyone is interested in finding out more about the Junior Clinic and our MyGolf Program, please contact our Golf Australia Community Coaches, Martin and Amanda in the Pro Shop Thursday 25 th February Bus Trip to The Springs. Mens Golf Committee News There have been some changes to the Mens Golf Committee this year. Colin Woodward has stepped down as Captain and Robbie Connell has moved into the position. Robbie has a wealth of knowledge regarding golf and committee operations and we welcome him to the fold. Thanks to Col for his past contributions. Col is not leaving the committee entirely, he is staying on as a general committee member. John Milligan has retired from the committee and we thank him also for his contributions over the last 2 years. The committee now consists of; Captain - Robbie Connell General Committee Neil Harding Colin Woodward Mike Cleary Captains Comments Firstly I like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as this is my first report (first of many I hope). My name is Rob Connell for those who may or may not know me, I have been a member of TBCG for the past couple of years, and before that I was a member of the Yass Golf Club for around 25 years. I have a good knowledge of golf (still learning Haha), I have worked with boards and committee s in the past as a committee member and a club manager. I was quite surprised and honoured to be asked to be the club captain of TBGC. I am open to all questions, queries or just a chat so if I haven t meet you yet please come up and introduce yourself. Anyway that s enough about me. As far as golf goes February will be a busy month with super senior s pennants and the A grade pennants kicking off. Teams have been announced and are on display in the pro-shop and club house and also on the TBGC website. Good luck boys TBGC hosted the first round of both Super Seniors and the A Grade Pennants.. A huge Thankyou goes out to Steve and Jammo for helping me out on the course with spotting and course marshalling for the A Grade pennants. Much appreciated fellas. I have had some great feedback from both super seniors and the A graders that the course was in great condition, players were well looked after etc. Thanks to everyone involved. As you are all aware January was a pretty wet month and the course has suffered in some way, however the green keepers and volunteers have been working hard to keep the course in great condition day in day out.i would personally like to thank the volunteers who give up their time week in week out to help the boys out on the course. Without you guys the course would not be in the fine shape it is now. Keep watching this space for more exciting development s on the course in the weeks to come. Also this year we will have some new exciting events coming up in the golfing calendar, keep your eyes out in the pro-shop and club house for flyers. Finally I would like to thank everyone for your support of the golf course and the club house where the Beers are cold, food is fresh (best BLT this side of the Dunedoo) and coffee is hot (if that s what you like) and the staff are always welcoming. Hoping to see you on course Robbie
