The MGA and sponsored the tournament and raised $10,000 that will be used to replace the back 9 bathrooms. Ruth Ann Trice, David Parks and their committee members did an excellent job of putting the tournament together. Also hats off to Cary. All of us support the club in one way or another. Recently Mike and Lisa Hocutt, Mike and Cathy Goodson provided MCC with a mini-excavator and equipment operator for 2 weeks. The equipment was used to repair irrigation lines and start the preparation for the cart path project. Mike and Elaine Nolan and the made donations for the irrigation system. Skip Fauber provided chairs for the MLR. Several of our members have given their personal time in assisting Lance on the course and Metro continues to be a big supporter in these projects. Many of our course projects are made possible by the MGA. I more than likely forgot someone and apologize but without this support many of these much needed projects would have been delayed. The contractor will start on the cart paths September 27. We hope this work is completed before 10/5. We will need to close 2 holes at a time but we will be able to drive on the paths at the time the contractor finishes each hole. Thank you for your patience. Steve Haas chaired the 2018 BOD nomination committee. Allen Talbot and Rex Cherry served with Steve. The committee has provided our membership with 3 excellent nominees. The 2018 nominees are Eddie Craven, Lane Stafford and Terry Trice. I want to thank Steve, Allen and Rex for their work and most of all thanks to Eddie, Lane and Terry for agreeing to serve our club. Oct. 29 Kids Halloween Party As a reminder the general membership meeting will be held on Thursday, October 19. The meeting is open to all members of our club. The meeting will start at 6 P.M. I hope to see you there. Page 3 Maumelle Country Club October 2017 T U R F TALK Well our mild Summer got hot again, not to mention dry. October and Fall have finally made it here, we hope everyone had a great MCC championship experience on the course and congratulations to our Club Champion, Eddie Craven, as well as all the other winners. For those who have not heard, we are anticipating all of our new equipment lease mowers to be delivered by the end of September. Hopefully all 5 pieces will be on site by the time you have read this month s newsletter. We have received one of our rough mowers on site, along with our new greens speed roller. We are just waiting on one more rough mower and two new fairway units. The mowers will show up just about time the Bermuda grass is slowing down and growing season is over. But that s ok, we still will have plenty to do on the course. This month we have addressed numerous drainage issues on the course as well as irrigation. Coming from a golf construction background, this time of year truly excites me. We will have time to evaluate and correct many of the golf course needs and only make it better. We are also excited about the new cart path overlay that will be happening this month. We have been prepping out ahead of the contractor, installing sleeves, as well as correcting cart path subgrade and cartpath drainage issues. These tasks, and projects would not be possible without you the members, so I would like to personally thank all of you for your ongoing support of the golf course and the improvements. I would also like to recognize, and can t thank him enough, Mr. Mike Hocutt, and his employee Rick Benard. Mike and his company have contributed to the cart path project and our in-house drainage projects by donating time, equipment, and an operator to aid in the prep work for cart paths and installation of hundreds of feet of drain pipe. Me, being a contractor for 20 plus years prior to being at MCC, I can tell you Mr. Hocutt s contributions are in the amount of several thousands of dollars. I thank you Mike tremendously, as well as Rick, and would hope all members will take the time to thank him for what he has done. Also, Mr. Mike Goodson deserves a big thank you for helping ram rod this arrangement, thank you again Mike. It s going to be a great Fall and I can t wait to see some very noticeable improvements out on the course. I want to let everyone know if you ever have questions or concerns, you can always find me on the course, and please feel free to grab me. See you on the course. Page 4 Maumelle Country Club October 2017 Happy2705 Hour Tuesday- Friday 5-7pm M W G A G O L F P R E S I D E N T GREETINGS, We have had a good golf year. Janet Taylor led the Tuesday evening golf, Betty Finley organized more morning opportunities, Candace Barker handled our City Play, and we had the usual Wednesday play day. Our volunteers do a tremendous job. Our new Golf Genius notifications were nice and the staff in the Pro Shop was always accommodating. Our last meeting of the year will be October 25th. We will scramble, enjoy a nice lunch and the election of officers for next year. This is the first year we did not meet monthly and we want your input on that. The by-laws were amended last year to eliminate monthly meetings and we need to address what you want to do in that regard. Work will begin on the Back Nine Bathroom and new cart paths this month. I am excited about what this group has accomplished this year. I will present a complete report at our meeting. H O L E IN ONE Randy Wood, Hole In One, Hole #8, 7 Iron 161 yards. Great job!!
