General Information Sheet and Welcome Dear Tae Kwon Do Athletes, Coaches, Referees and Families, We are pleased to invite you to the 11th annual Michigan-Midwest Tae Kwon Do Championships being held on Saturday, December 2, 2017. Once again this year s event will be held at the Macomb Community College Sport and Expo Center to accommodate the competition and those that arrive to watch. The Sports & Expo Center on the campus of Macomb Community College is a unique venue, with a great deal of space to spread out and move around. It is also close to major freeways, dining and accommodations for overnight stay. It is our goal to provide high level competition for all competitors and a great overall experience to go with it. As always, we work hard to make sure each and every athlete and parent leave having had a great day. As you will see in the following pages, we are again an online PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY EVENT! For Michigan coaches, this is an event that brings National and International players and gives your athletes the opportunity to have quality competition close to home without the expense of long distance travel. We pride ourselves in being able to provide high-level competition in the Michigan area to help those that want to further their experience or prepare for National competition. Take advantage of this double elimination format to gain valuable ring time! As the first event in Michigan to bring in the Daedo scoring system for competition, we are happy to announce that ALL DIVISIONS WILL BE USING THE DAEDO SCORING SYSTEM and black belt divisions 12-32 are running the Daedo Scoring system with DOUBLE ELIMINATION competition. This year the event is a SPARRING ONLY EVENT! To make sure we are thoughtful of time and thoughtful of the work put in by referees and volunteers, we are capping the registrations at 450 athletes this year. Because of this we strongly recommend you get your registrations in early so you can participate in this great event. We are happy to announce that once again athletes have the opportunity to participate in the chance to win a $500 cash prize. Gold medalists from the 12-14, 15-17 and 18-32 year old black belt sparring divisions will be able to place their name in a raffle for the cash award. You don t need to be present to win. The attire for referees is black pants, white shirt & red tie. There will be a shuttle from the Courtyard Marriott Detroit-Warrren to the competition venue for referees and staff only. Coaching Information: Please bring an adequate number of coaches to support your team. Each coach will be given (1) HOLD CARD to delay a ring for coaching athletes. You can give this card to the head referee to hold a match and once used, you cannot hold up a ring to coach another player later in the day. PLEASE BRING ADEQUATE STAFF TO COACH YOUR TEAM! THIS IS CRUCIAL FOR TIME MANAGEMENT OF THE EVENT. Awards: All division winners will receive quality medals and for ages 11 and under, a prize with their medal. Text Notification System for Black Belt Sparring Report Times: We will be using text notification to help black belt sparring competitors in the 12-32 divisions know their report time. The code for the text notification system will go out via the Eventbrite mass email system and will be announced at the venue.

Registration for Coaches Each school will receive (1) complimentary coach pass. We encourage you to register online so we can have this pass waiting for you upon your arrival. If you are a school owner and plan to coach please register online to make the process easier. Your FREE passes can be retrieved at the door, where we will log the names of each coach on a roster. Please note that all additional passes (2 or more) must be paid for. Please plan ahead for this. Each coach will also be given (1) Hold Pass to use in the event that they are busy coaching another player in another ring. Please think ahead and bring adequate coaching staff to support your team. The pass will be given to the head referee when used, after which you will not be able to hold up a ring due to lack of availability. Again, please bring enough staff to support your team as this is crucial for time management of the event. Coaches must register and display a Coach s Pass in order to accompany an athlete to, or coach an athlete in, a ring. Staff will be on the floor to enforce this policy to ensure a safer environment for all competitors & participants. No information about an individual s injury or illness will be released without that athlete's written permission in accordance with HIPAA Privacy Guidelines. Full injury report will only be released to an insurance agency upon the written request of the injured person and/or parent/legal guardian of a minor who has been injured. If athlete suffers a concussion and is given a WTF 30-day-out, information about athlete will be given to the CEO, Event Director & High Performance Director, and their assistants in order to enforce the 30-day-out rule. No details beyond the athlete s name, date of birth, weight division, belt color, age division, gender, when /where the concussion was sustained and/or what date he/she may return will be shared in accordance with HIPAA Privacy Rights of the athlete.
