Terrebonne Parish Community Park Community Input Session October 23, 2012 5. If you have any additional input or feedback on the programs and facilities to be provided by Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government and Recreation District 2-3, please use the space below to make any comments. Thank you for taking time to help plan your community recreation. Below are written responses from question 5 (listed above) obtained from surveys completed at the community input session: - Why does the first phase of the facility need to be baseball/softball fields? There are already baseball/softball fields and facilities all over the parish. The existing soccer fields are the only ones in the parish and are in desperate need of upgrade, as well as parking. - Utilize additional acreage that currently is not included in plans. - Expandable Grow with community. - (1) We are still wanting a plan for traffic on 311 we need turning lanes and/or a red light. (2) Noise buffers for surrounding homes. (3) Security keeping park people out of the Lakes. (4) move parking into the center of park keep away from residences. (5) Perimeter fencing. - With the number of baseball facilities in District 2-3 and across the parish why would we need more than 1 softball area and 1 youth baseball area? Don t overdo what we already have available. Buy the potential 18.5 acres. More soccer fields are needed (at least 2 more). - 400 meter running track like high schools. - Would like lighted soccer fields. - Please no prison toilets (Stainless Steel). Currently, we have multiple gyms not interested in another one. - Proposed soccer layout is inadequate for current levels of HTSA membership, and cannot therefore accommodate any growth at all. - Please make sure to look at the large number of children registered in HTSA Blackhawks soccer. Please make sure there are enough fields to accommodate all soccer age groups. This is an excellent sport for our youth and we need to support this event! - Outdoor workout facility like Lafreniere Park. Lighted soccer fields. - Please provide safe biking and running paths for residents throughout Terrebonne Parish. - (1) Make Valhi main entrance, it makes more sense. (2) No RV hook ups. (3) Division of property with some type of presentable fencing. - My concern is to ensure that we have enough fields to host a soccer tournament. I m not sure that the current proposal would work for a soccer tournament. Our November tournament will require (3) 11v11 fields, (8) 8v8 fields and U8 fields. I would hope that this project would provide the ability to host a larger tournament. - I really like the idea of canoeing/boating facilities and an outdoor stage. Facility should close by 10:00pm. No overnight camping.
- There should be a pond of some sort at 5 deep. It can serve as dirt needed for build up and can facilitate water activities. - Lights would allow the playing of games and practicing throughout the winter months. Hwy. 311 will need turning lanes added. Picnic and pavilion areas would be great for between games. Fishing area to teach kids without boats would be nice can utilize retention ponds. - Use additional 18 acres for soccer. - Expand additional area now and add soccer fields. More soccer fields are needed to even think about having a soccer tournament!! - The soccer complex and softball complex need to be kept whole and then add other amenities. Soccer fields need to be involved in phase I. - I don t think given the existing parish sport facilities that we need to emphasize the same sports. This complex should have more focus on improving and promoting sports/events that currently do not exist. Revenue from the new complex can be used to rebuild and improve existing facilities around parish. Soccer fields and area is much needed in this parish. - Running track 2 miles. - Please black top walking/running paths!\ - If baseball/softball fields are the only recreation included in the first phase, perhaps temporary improvements could be done on soccer fields to make this area more suitable. - Walking tracks at all parks. BMX and skate parks could be built on parks peripherals and time restricted as not to interfere with other activities. - I do not see a need to build a gym in this new park complex. I believe the soccer space is not big enough to hold an 80 team tournament (Gobbler Cup) as has been a regular staple to our area. I also disagree with the space/size allotted to administrative building. Its too large and costly and not needed. There was a feasibility study done in 2003-2005 (Schwabb administration) with research and feasibility of sports plex. Look into it, could save you from reinventing the wheel. - Please assure that the road infrastructure will be sufficient to manage traffic, access this includes Hwy. 311 issues. - A soccer stadium would be nice to hold high school and possibly semi-pro games. Plenty of trees. Shelter when inclement weather occurs. - Make sure parking and restroom facilities are adequate along with egress to main roads. - I think the park/sports complex is great, and I am excited it will be near my neighborhood. I believe traffic access to the complex will need to be addressed. With only the soccer fields there currently, traffic is often a problem turning off of 311, turning onto 311, and traffic delays because of congestion related to soccer. With the new complex, I imagine this would extend beyond soccer days of the week and beyond soccer season. I hope that proper turning lanes, a traffic light or other modifications will be made.
