Marathon & Half Marathon Course Info. Hills Bridges between miles 2-3 (Queensway Bridge is the largest). (~35 avg. feet) Mile 11.5 and 23 - on Nieto Ave. between Broadway and Appian Way (~36 feet) Mile 17.5 - going from lower campus to upper campus at California State University, Long Beach. (~44 feet) Mile 18.5 - right before leaving the CSULB campus (~79 avg. feet) Mile 21 - quarter-mile incline on Clark Ave. to Pacific Coast Highway. (~53 feet) USATF Certified and Official Qualifier The JetBlue Long Beach Marathon can be used as a qualifier for any marathon in the country, including the Boston Marathon. Course Time Limits 7.5 hours for all events starting from the 6:00am start time. Runners need to return to the Finish Line by 1:30pm. In order to re-open the portion of the 710 freeway affected by the course and maintain runners safety, participants who have not passed mile 2 (Shoreline Drive and the Queensway Bridge) by 8:35am will be re-routed to mile 5 of the Marathon and Half Marathon course. Honey Stinger Energy gel: miles 10, 16/20 (flavors: Fruit Smoothie, Strawberry Kiwi, Chocolate, Acai Pomegranate, and Vanilla) Kool N Fit Sport Kool N Fit Sport muscle conditioning spray will be located at miles 9 and 16/20 on the half and full marathon courses. Kool N Fit is an analgesic spray applied directly to the legs; it provides a cooling sensation and helps the overworked muscles cool down. Race Day Driving Directions Interstate 405 From Los Angeles: Take the San Diego Freeway (405) south and exit Pacific Avenue, Long Beach Boulevard, or Atlantic Avenue. Head west on any of these streets toward any of the parking areas. From Southern Orange County and San Diego: Take the San Diego Freeway (405) north and exit Pacific Avenue, Long Beach Boulevard, or Atlantic Avenue. Head west on any of these streets toward any of the parking areas. Interstate 710 From Los Angeles: Take the San Diego Freeway (405) South to Long Beach Freeway (710). Exit at Downtown/Broadway. Take Broadway to Pine Avenue, turn right on Pine, cross over Ocean Blvd. to Seaside Way. Turn left on Seaside Way. Convention Center parking lot will be on right side. From Southern Orange County and San Diego: Take the San Diego Freeway (405) north to Long Beach Freeway (710) south to the Downtown/Broadway exit. Race Day Parking Convention Center Parking NO PRE-PURCHASE AVAILABLE race day purchase only The most convenient expo and race day parking is in the Convention Center/Arena/Terrace Theater parking lots. $15.00 charge for parking. These lots are located adjacent to the Long Beach Arena and the official Start/Finish lines for the event. The Long Beach Arena is the circular blue building with the seascape mural. Aqualink The Aqualink will be free to runners on race day. The Aqualink will Depart from the dock near the bow of the Queen Mary Hotel at 5:30am and will continue shuttling passengers back and forth to the start line area until 9:30am. After the race, runners will return via the Passport C Bus which will also be free for runners. Runners staying at the Residence Inn and Maya Hotel can walk to the Dock at the Queen Mary to catch the shuttle. Half Marathon Wave Start Information Wave Start Time Estimated Finish Time 1 7:30am 1:16 2:09 2 7:35am 2:10 2:26 3 7:40am 2:27 2:47 4 7:45am 2:48 3:31 5 7:50am 3:32 + The wave start times are organized by estimated finish times, with the quicker times in the front and the slower times in the back. The waves will be clearly divided by colored signs at the start line. Please line up in the wave of your estimated finish time. Gear Check Gear check will be located at Marina Green, near the start line. All participants must store gear in the 17.5 x 15 inch clear, plastic gear check bag provided at the Health and Fitness Expo. It is highly recommended that non-essential, valuable items are left at home. The JetBlue Long beach Marathon is not responsible for any lost items. Pacers Each pace group leader will run even splits (every mile will be run in the same amount of time). Pacers will be in the corrals at the start line with large signs indicating their pace. Pacers will also be wearing race singlets with a pacer logo on the back. Corrals will have signage indicating expected finish times. Pacers will be provided by A Snail s Pace Running Shop. You do not need to sign-up to join a pace group, simply lined up behind the pacer of your choice on race day. Full Marathon Pacers for the marathon will be provided for the following finish times: 3:05, 3:15, 3:25, 3:35, 3:45, 4:00, 4:10, 4:25, 4:55, and 5:25. Half Marathon Pacers for the half marathon will be provided for the following finish times: 1:30, 1:40, 1:45, 1:50, 1:55, 2:00, 2:10, 2:15, 2:20, 2:30. 9

Participant Shirts Full marathon, half marathon, combo events o Technical fabric t-shirt V-neck for women Crew neck for men Bike tour, 5K o Cotton t-shirts Unisex sizing Participants must pick up the shirt size they specified in their registration. There will be a Shirt Exchange area inside of the Expo. Finisher s Medals All participants receive a finisher s medal upon crossing the finish line. Combo participants will receive one medal for each event (e.g. one for the Bike Tour and one for the running event), plus a special Combo medal. Awards & Prize Money Age Division Awards Award medals will be given to the top 3 for each age group, and a separate award will be presented to the overall male and female winners (top 3) for all events except for the Bike Tour. Combo participants are eligible for age division awards in the run events only. Age Divisions: Under 14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+ Age division awards are to be picked up at the Age Division Medal Tent after the race. Prize Money Cash prizes will be distributed for the Marathon and Half Marathon Elite and Masters* Levels. Winning times are based on gun time, not chip time. Athletes aiming to win prize money must start in the first wave. 10

Prize money checks will be sent out after the event, but all winners are invited to the VIP tent after the race for breakfast and to receive special plaques. Race Records Bonus Winners of the Marathon or Half Marathon with a race time record will be awarded double the 1st place price value. All race time records are based on gun time, not chip time. Prize bonus will be awarded in the Elite Marathon and Elite Half marathon divisions only. Challenged Athletes Prize Money Prize money will be awarded to the 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place push rim wheelchair athletes. Prize money is not awarded to handcrank/handcycle athletes. Race Timing A chip timing system will be used for all events. Overall finish time, minimum of three on-course splits DO NOT DETACH THE CHIP FROM THE BIB no chip, no time Timing issues? Challenged Athlete Division Main Challenged Athlete Division: push-rim and handcycle racers 5:55am start time (allows for safer navigation of the course for both our athletes and our public runners.) Questions email: lbinfo@motivsports.com Prize money: o Full marathon only o Push-rim wheelchair only, handcycle is not eligible for prize money Physically/mentally challenged athletes who require a guide on course: o We provide Guide bibs for runners or walkers who will be accompanying a physically challenged athlete. The bib allows the Guide to be on the course, but they would not receive a medal at the finish. Guide bibs can be picked up at the expo Solutions table. Bike Tour All Bike Tour participants must have a bib, but they will not receive an official finish time. Bike Safety The use of safety helmets is mandatory. Bike lights encouraged. Headphones discouraged. Tandem cyclists will receive race items per registrations; if both riders are registered, they will both receive a shirt and medal. For safety purposes, parents with kids are asked to line up towards the rear of the pack at the start of the race. 3-wheeled Trikke-type scooters will not be allowed on the bike course. Mechanical issues/tire inflation/bike malfunctions o JAX Bicycles will host maintenance stops along the course Bike Corral/Storage There will be 2 separate areas inside of the bike corral area. 1) Combo participants and 2) General Bike Tour participants. Signage will direct participants toward their correct corral area. 12

Combo (Bike/Run) Combo participants will have a special bib and will receive a special Combo medal. Combo Bike/5K 1) Complete Aquarium of the Pacific 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, October 7 2) Complete the Bike Tour on Sunday, October 8 3) Receive Combo Bike/5K medal Combo Bike/5K bib pick up: At the Health and Fitness Expo on Friday (12-7pm). At the Aquarium of the Pacific 5K Run/Walk on Saturday morning (5:30am open time). More information on the Aquarium of the Pacific 5K Run/Walk can be found in the race-specific section below. Combo Bike/Half Marathon 1) Complete the Bike Tour on Sunday 2) Complete the Half Marathon on Sunday 3) Receive Combo Bike/Half Marathon medal Combo Bike/Half participants will start in a separate wave than the Bike Tour participants signage will indicate where the Combo starts. Start time for the Bike Tour is 6:00am and there are no late starts allowed. There will be a separate bike corral area for Combo participants with extra room for storing running gear similar to a triathlon transition area (no changing rooms). Wave # / start times for the run are 1 / 7:30am, 2 / 7:35am, 3 / 7:40am, 4 / 7:45am, or 5 / 7:50am and there will be no starts after the last wave. Combo participants will receive a time for both the bike and the run segments. All Combo/Half participants are eligible for Beach Bum Club status. Combo participants are eligible for age division awards and prize money for the run portion. 13

Aquarium of the Pacific 5K Saturday, October 7 @ 7:00am The 5K is 3.1 miles. Participants run around the iconic Long Beach Lighthouse, next to the Pacific Ocean, and through the Aquarium of the Pacific. Time limit: 60 minutes. Packet pick-up o Friday at the Health and Fitness Expo (12-7pm) o Saturday in front of the Aquarium of the Pacific (5:30am) o Race day registration YES (if event isn t sold out) All participants will receive a cotton t-shirt before the race and finisher s medal upon completion. Age divisions: under 14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+ All race participants will receive a coupon to enter the Aquarium of the Pacific for $5 (expires December 31, 2017) Participants running with strollers are encouraged to start near the back and allow the faster runners to clear the start line area. Driving Directions and Parking for the Aquarium of the Pacific 5K From Los Angeles: Take the San Diego Freeway (405) south to the Long Beach Freeway (710), which turns into Shoreline Drive. Turn left on Chestnut into The Pike Parking structure ($15) From Southern Orange County and San Diego: Take the San Diego Freeway (405) north to the Long Beach Freeway (710), which turns into Shoreline Drive. Aquarium of the Pacific Kid s Run Saturday, October 7 @ 9:00am (Wave 1) The kids run is a 1 mile out-and-back course. Dates and Times Friday 12:00pm 7:00pm Saturday 9:00am 6:00pm Driving and Parking Closest parking areas: From Ocean Boulevard, head west on Pine Avenue and turn left onto Seaside Way. Park in the large Convention Center Parking lot on the right side ($15) From Shoreline Drive/710 freeway, turn left onto Linden Avenue. Park in the large Convention Center Parking lot ($15) On-site Registration Registration will be available at the Health and Fitness Expo until events sell out. Event Transfer (upgrades, downgrades) Participants can transfer to different events up until Saturday, October 8 at the Health & Fitness Expo, unless the event to which they would like to transfer is sold out. Refunds are not provided for switching to a less expensive event. We highly discourage participants deciding during the event to switch and cannot guarantee that they will receive an Official Finish Time. Picking Up for Another Runner Participants may pick up race items for a maximum of two other runners. REQUIRED: o Participant s photo ID (picture on phone acceptable) o Signed waiver (PRINTED OUT) o There are NO exceptions and we do not keep waivers on hand since the people who cannot attend the expo have to provide a signed copy to the person picking up on their behalf. 17

Race Day Pick-up Race Day Pick-up was an option for purchase online, prior to the race, and allows runners to pick their race items up on race morning. If a participant did not purchase it, they will not be able to pick items up on race morning. Race Day Pick-up items available Sunday morning at the Information Tent, starting at 5:00am. Participant shirts and Beach Bum Club shirts will be included in the package. All Race Day Pick-up participant items will also be available at the Health & Fitness Expo on Friday and Saturday at the Solutions table. 18

Beach Bum Club Logo is on bib (see image below). Half or full marathon 3 years consecutively. Beach Bum shirts must be picked up at the Health and Fitness Expo on Friday or Saturday. Shirts will not be mailed out. Beach Bum Club members will also receive an additional beer in the Finish Line Festival Beer Garden. Only those with Beach Bum Club logos on their bibs will be permitted to enter the Beach Bum Club hut in the beer garden. Visit the Solutions table at the Health and Fitness Expo with any questions. Bike Path (miles 7-10) The runners will enter the bike path near Alfredo s Rentals and continue along the beach to Bayshore Ave. Don t forget to head up to Ocean Blvd. to get another view of the runners! 3. Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool (mile 9) There is a huge grass area here to relax on while you wait for the runners. 4. Livingston Dr. and Marine Stadium (miles 11, 12, 13 and 23) At this stop you will have a chance to cheer on the marathon runners at the mid and end points of the race. Marine Stadium has nearby neighborhood parking and restrooms. 5. Colorado Lagoon (miles 14 and 22.5) Colorado Lagoon is surrounded by beautiful grass areas. It s only a short walk across the lagoon area from mile 14 to catch the runners again at mile 22.5. 20

6. Cal State University, Long Beach (miles 17-20) This is the point in the race when runners start to hit the wall. 7.
